If we are bound to vote for the lesser evil. Shouldn't we all vote for the American Solidarity Party?

I forget my exact tax bracket, but let’s say it’s 30% for the Federal. I pay only 3% (plus sales tax) to my state, and property taxes to my country and town.

I would rather pay 3% taxes to the Federal govt and 30% to my state govt. I think most conservatives would agree, that we would rather have lower federal taxes and higher state taxes, than lower state and higher federal.

Conservatives don’t want the Federal Govt involved with this stuff, as conservatives want the Federal govt involved with as little as possible, domestically.

Conservatives want (1st) the private sector to fund these things, and if it’s not possible for the private sector and needs to be the public sector, then we want the city, county or state govts paying for the services.

Most conservatives view the Federal govt’s role to be primarily dealing with international policy & assisting with inter-state disagreements.

Conservatives feel that domestic policy should primarily be handled by the States, counties and cities, with little involvement from the Federal govt.
Yes, I understand that. There is a wonderful demonstration of that happening currently–Covid-19.

Several countries (New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan) have actually used the word “team” to emphasize their decisive–national–response. And those that used this approach are doing just fine. Those who left the issue to private parties, states, cities…well, you can see how well they are doing in the daily papers–159,508 new cases yesterday and 1,583 deaths. This is failure on a colossal scale.

Pandemics are different… they are equally international as they are domestic.

The biggest issue for America is the Constitution. When the pandemic started Trump TRIED to shut down everything and wanted to quarantine NYC. Other states including Rhode Island (whois governor is a Democrat) tried to ban people from entering their states from NY State.

Governor Cuomo - quickly threatened to sue the Federal govt for violating the state’s Constitutional rights. Cuomo also quickly threatened to sue Rhode Island (and any other state) that tried to block people from NY State from entering their states.

Because the Constitution does not specifically indicate who had authority during a domestic emergency, the power defaults to the States.

The United States’ response to COVID-19 is equally the fault of the both the Republicans and Democrats. Both parties politicized this after the worst was over. Trump may have down played it, but Democrats also down played it February & called Trump xenophobic for shutting down flights from China & then from Europe.

Because the United States doesn’t have a Constitutional Amended which documents a clear chain of command during natural disasters, both parties are able to play politics with natural disasters in the US because people are confused regarding the roles the State & Federal govts are supposed to play.

This is why FEMA gets blasted after every hurricane, regardless who the President is (though the mainstream media is harsher when it’s a Republican, even though FEMA’s response is typically always the same).

In my opinion, we need a Constitution Amendment detailing the roles of the Congress, State Legislatures, President and Governors (plus the agencies associated with each) has during a pandemic and/or other natural disaster.

Until the law is specific regarding the roles for each, every natural disaster will be a political dumpster fire.

BTW: in regards to New Zealand, Australia, Twain, etc. all powers not documented default to their national governments. In the USA, (as mentioned above) all powers not documented default to the state governments.

Show me evidence–and not from Fox News or Breitbart.
…Trump xenophobic for shutting down flights from China & then from Europe.
Fake news. Biden was campaigning in Iowa that day and was giving a speech totally unrelated to the virus, China, etc. He was talking about immigration and the S. border. Thus his reference to Trump being xenophobic–it was in reference to the Muslim Ban, refugees, immigrants, etc. Trump was one of about 80 countries who stopped flights from China in the space of 2-3 days. He was not first–the US was in the middle of the pack. And of course Trump allowed exemptions that allowed 40,000+ passengers from China to arrive AFTER his “ban.” Biden tweeted a few days later that he favored doing whatever the experts said. No criticism whatsoever of Trump stopping flights–which all experts agree may delay a pandemic up to two weeks, but does not STOP it.

We certainly disagree 180° on that one. The Republican gov. of Georgia expressed surprise that asymptomatic people could spread it MONTHS after that fact was common knowledge. He was basing policy on ignorance. Stunning. Georgia has now had 391,466 cases and 8,496 deaths. No surprise.

I’m trying to say this politely…you have an “interesting” version of Covid history. I’ve been following this in detail since January. I’ve posted elsewhere about it.

As for “no one knew,” EVERY expert knew. For example, look at a video of Fauci giving a speech at Georgetown in Jan. 2017 where he predicted a pandemic “in the next few years.” Right on the money.
A lot of countries had a plan–Taiwan, New Zealand, etc. So did the US until Trump “lost” it after he dissolved the White House pandemic group. I’m not going to go on because I’ll just hyperventilate. I would urge you to take one incident and / or country and investigate this thoroughly.
