If you are a Christian, what is the real reason for you not being a Catholic? - 2

Well, I guess you won’t be having any dialog then since you decline to talk about anything. There’s little point in making reference to “teachings/ideas/mind sets” that you disagree with if you refuse to say what they are. What’s the point of posting anything at all in that case? What’s the point of even registering on this forum?
What was the point of posting?

To answer a question that was being asked.

I dont think that you fully read what I posted, there was actually an answer in there.

I did read it. There is no need to insult me. I merely asked for clarification of your ‘non-answer’ answer. And you refused to clarify. So the entire exchange is pointless, starting with your non-answer and proceeding from there. I’ll withdraw. Have a nice life.

I have been a Catholic for many, many years and I have never heard my fellow Catholics say such unkind things about those of other faiths like some of you do here, towards the Catholic Faith and Catholics. Even when we TELL you that some of the things you say are NOT true, like we DO NOT worship Mary or statues, you do not believe us. You accuse us of not believing the Bible when the Catholic Church understands and uses Sacred Scripture in it fullness, in the Mass and all its teachings. Our belief in the Holy Eucharist is Bibical, All 7 of our Sacraments are scriptural. We are more bibical than you will ever be !!! You have taken what you want from the TRUTHS the Catholic Church has held for 2,000 years and interpreted them the way you want. That does NOT make it right and pleasing to God.
The Catholic Church is the TRUE Church founded by Jesus Christ. You can say and do what you like but you CANNOT change the TRUTH. Nothing will ever change the TRUTH. I don’t have to argue with you, I could just set back and enjoy my Faith.
But I truly pray that we all become ONE in CHRIST as HE prayed.

I will do my best to tell you the truth about the Catholic Faith, I will not argue over ridiculous statements. There are many ways you can find the TRUTH for yourself if you really want to. Or you can go on blindly believing those who know nothing about the Catholic Faith. Like the Blind leading the Blind. We all know what happens to them, and 40,000 different denominations shows where the protestants are going.
The Catholic Church loves ALL people, she loves and embraces all christians in our common baptism, even tho we don’t share many of your ideas of scripture, we recognize you have some of the same beliefs as we do. Why do you fell the need to constantly bash the Catholic Faith, I don’t understand that? Maybe if you could get over doing that, we could find some common ground to build on. There are good and bad people in all faiths, human nature is weak and satan is powerful. The Catholic Church is here to try to make saints out of sinners with the Grace of God. Don’t you think we should work together for that. The Truth will surface and the TRUTH will set us FREE. Jesus is the TRUTH.

What teachings/ideas/mind sets, specifically, are you referring to?
“To those who understand no explanation is needed, to those who refuse to understand none is possible:” problem is that Protestant’s keep changing their stances on issues of the times, and have split to the tune of over 40,000 different denominations, but at one time a Protestant believes one thing and the total opposite if the first thing,Theu believe in Sola Escritura or that belieif in Jesus CHrist only, even after pointing to the facts of the Bible about such thingslike they still refuse to obey and adhere, we will have to answer to the Lord Jesus Christ. You think that many of those that repented are forgiven, but they still have to respond to the Lord for their actions, and when Jesus questions all by asking us: What exactly did you mean when you said this or that negative of my Father’s Laws?, What were you thinking that adhering to the Law was not needed? do you think that those inspired by My Holy Spirit were inspired to write about the Laws, just to look pretty? no, they were wrttien for a reason, if you think that Law of Scripture are not needed, then may i suggest you read about Gay’s in the Bible, or about other Mortal Sins.

That was mature…

Your signature is offensive and ignorant. But whatever, 🤷 people are all entitled to their opinions.

I guess if you can’t think of an intelligent response to a post then you just call it stupid and refuse to answer… Try the ‘treat others as you would like to be treated’… Hmmmm I wonder who said that? 😉 I doubt you would like to have someone call you stupid. Try a little humility. There is more than one way to defend your faith. Christ did it perfectly. He knew when to be outraged and when to tell Peter to put the blade down. 👍
Hi Singin’

Your posts are always so defensive. You seem to be a person of great faith and love for the Lord. Why do you come to CAF? Would you like to dialogue? Of course, this is a Catholic forum, so you’ll get all sorts of Catholic replies. But I have learned a lot here in the past year about different Protestant beliefs. Many negative misconceptions have been cleared up for me. It wasn’t until I inadvertantly participated in “non-denominational” Bible studies a few years ago (because I did not realize ND meant fundamentalist evangelical of the worst kind), that I began to to paint all Protestants as ant-Catholics who spread lies about our teachings and twisted Scripture. Truthfully, I didn’t know many Protestants before this. This forum has cured me of the bias.

Hope to hear something positive of your faith soon.

I did read it. There is no need to insult me.
I did not insult you in the slightest. Could you show me where you thought that I insulted you?
I merely asked for clarification of your ‘non-answer’ answer. And you refused to clarify.
For starters it wasnt a “non-answer”, it was a legitimate response to a question being asked.

You asked what I was specifically refering to, to which I explained why I made a generalised response and why I felt that I could not be specific (those reasons I gave have actually happened to me and others on these forums, I have also been labeled with some very charming anti-protestant titles). In making that statement, it also revealed part of why I dont want to be catholic.

So no it wasnt actually a case of “refusing to clarify”, but it doesnt seem to matter what I state because you seem to take what ever you choose to take from my statements.

Bseides, when did I actually state that I wanted to enter dialog about specifics with anyone, perhaps I didnt want to enter into dialog about my answer?

Maybe your “merely asking for clarifacition” wasnt actually invited in the first place?
So the entire exchange is pointless, starting with your non-answer and proceeding from there.
Actually the exchange became pointless with your refusal to accept my answer of why I didnt want to be specific, that seemed to really geting under your skin. You didnt even try to discuss my reasons for not being specific but chose to come up with some imagined insult that I apparently made and I feel belittle my comments by throwing around words like “pointless” and “non-answer”.

But in a way you have shown me that it was right not to be specific with you.
I’ll withdraw. Have a nice life.
There really is no need for that.

One can follow jesus and do all that he asks and adhere to all his teaching and not be a roman catholic. I am a Christian just not roman catholic and I am every bit a christian as any other.
I do not dispute your Christianity. How do you know what the teachings of Jesus are? There are so many conflicting ones out there. The meaning of “Trinity,” Sunday vs. Sabbath worship, Real Presence vs Symbolic, Sola Scriptura vs Tradition and Scripture, Sola Fides, OSAS, works alone. Why did the why did the ELIM’S split from the LCMS in the 1970’s What’s the controversy in the Anglica/Episcopal church? What’s the difference between Southern Baptists and American Baptists? Do Baptists all agree on the necessity of Baptism?

Unless you start doing things like referring to the Eucharist as our ‘wafer god’ telling us that we’re a bunch of pagans for believing in the communion of saints, or referring to a eucharistic procession as “carrying Jesus around in a container”, that is unlikely. Plenty of people express respectful disagreement with our beliefs and manage to not get painted with the “anti-Catholic” brush.

But no its nothing like you are suggesting.

One problem I have is the whole idea of dogma (although I did enjoy the movie), sometimes it seems quite strange to me and dangerous.

I dont agree with the teachings on homosexuality (I am not homosexual) and believe that the bible is actually ambigous on the subject.

I also dont agree with the infalability and authority part.

There are other “issues”, but I think that I will leave it at that.

I simply dont believe that you should join a club (so to speak) if you have objections the rules that the club has, it wont get you or the club anywhere.

I totally agree with that, and I respect someone who cares enough to investigate our beliefs and then is honest about why they don’t appeal.

See, that wasn’t difficult, was it?

LoL,

No it wasnt, but I still have the bomb shelter on stand-by just in case.

Mike, I once had a conversation with a co-worker about his faith somewhat along these lines. He was from India, but he was one of those rare Indians that was Catholic. (Mother Teresa was a great example to India and is revered there by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.) This was actually before I was confirmed as a Catholic myself.

My friend made a very important point, one that is very pertinent to those who go searching for a religion that is “right” for them. So many people will look for a church for all the wrong reasons ~ they like the Sermons or that’s where their friends go to church. Or the church preaches some kind of “feel good” stuff that isn’t related to theology at all. Or perhaps the standards are either more strict or more relaxed, so they feel “comfortable” there. Searching for the Truth is often a low priority or missing altogether.

But Truth is the most important factor in making such a decision! And some of the things that bring us closer to God may take us out of our “comfort zone” ~ at least at first. God is not obligated to conform Himself to our way of thinking, it is our obligation to conform ourselves to God. When God seems far away, it is because we have moved apart from Him.

I did not insult you in the slightest. Could you show me where you thought that I insulted you?
“I dont think that you fully read what I posted” is insulting. My feelings count too. And some of the other things that you have written are uncharitable as well.

As for the rest, most people find it odd for someone to basically enter a conversation, which is essentially what a person does when they post to one of these internet chat sites, and then refuse to “talk”. But it’s OK, you don’t have to have a dialog. No one is going to beg you to do so. Nor is any “invitation” required to have one, as you have implied. This is a public forum. You’re making way more out of this than is actually there, for some unknown reason.

I also have choices, and one is that I choose not to spend my precious time attempting dialog with someone who appears to be playing games. That’s my assessment after asking a respectful, straightforward question and getting all this defensive blowback. That’s why this will be my last post to you. C-ya.

“I dont think that you fully read what I posted” is insulting.
No it is not insulting, it was an observation and there was more to the quote than you have relayed.
Yes they do count, I never implied otherwise.
And some of the other things that you have written are uncharitable as well.
By all means show me where you believe that I have been uncharitable, so that it can be cleared up.

Personally I think that its a bit of the pot and kettle scenario.

Im sorry, but I dont really understand what you are saying. It doesnt really bare much resembelence to what has transpired.

Lets break it down:

I answered a question that someone asked on a thread.

You asked for specific things about my answer, which was pretty general.

I explained why it was general and gave reasons why I was reluctant to be specific.

You called my posts pointless, went on about dialog and acussed me of not wanting to talk about anything. There was also the questioning the point of me posting and being a forum member.

I replied that I posted to answer a question being asked and that there was an answer in my earlier post if you read if fully.

You accused me of insulting you (but didnt say how), made some uncharitable comments about my non-answer and the pointless remarks and that uncharitable signing off bit.

I asserted that I didnt insult you and asked you to show me where you believe that I did, defended my non-answer as well as my refusal to speak. I suggested that maybe I didnt want “dialog” or that I didnt want “dialog” from yourself, corrected you on where I believe the “dialog” became pointless and questioned the need for your signing off.

Which brings us to here.
I also have choices, and one is that I choose not to spend my precious time attempting dialog with someone who appears to be playing games. That’s my assessment after asking a respectful, straightforward question and getting all this defensive blowback. That’s why this will be my last post to you. C-ya.
LOL.

All this because you could not accept an answer that I gave to you.

You are not interested in “dialog”, because you had a perfect oppotunity for that when I replied to your question. It was just a different dialog to what you wanted.

Honestly I think that you should go back and re-read these posts, with all due respect they are absolutly nothing like you are trying to describe here.

“Praying to Saint Monica for the conversion of my husband”, I read this in your signiture ibkc.

Why not do as Jesus said "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”(John 14:13,14)

1 John 5:14-15 is another scripture verse to take a look at as well.

God Bless!

Thank you for your concern, Emeraldcoast. I pray to St. Monica only to ask her to pray for me. I don’t pray to her to worship her. But again, thank you for your concern. If you like, I will add you to my prayers for conversion. 🙂

Ok, I thought you were saying that Orthodox and Catholic are together One Church even though either sides fully realizes it. Pope Paul VI reportedly said that there is very little to separate Orthodox from Catholics in a common celebration of the Eucharist, or something like that. The quote reference is found in the CCC.
Pope Benedict XVI recently mentioned Orthodox as being Churches, not “ecclesial communities”.

That’s pretty good. I have quite a few Catholic friends that agree with you on the first sentence, (or at least ignore it), but insist they should belong to the club because the club’s rules are wrong!

It is true that some of my posts are on the defense and that is something I need to work on here. It wasn’t always the case. I guess I have just been on this board too long. But I also know that God has me working on bringing unity between catholics and protestants because there is just too big of a rift between us that does not need to be there. While we beat eachother up (being brothers and sisters in Christ - sibling rivalry at it’s worst) there is a world out there that turns away from God because of OUR example. If we, as christians, can’t love eachother - what does this say about the God we serve???

The post you quoted was pointed to someone who’s signature indicated that they think protestants:
  1. don’t need to be anywhere near the catholic church (keeping protestants at bay) - which seems to project a certain exclusivity that your church doesn’t seem to teach. Why wouldn’t we be welcome there?
  2. We, as a whole, say stupid things. Which is true of course, no one is excluded from saying stupid things. BUT that signature indicates that protestants are stupid. Why not say that the person will bring to light stupid things that anyone says, not just protestants?
🤷 I dunno, maybe I need a break from the forums… While yes, I am on a catholic forum, this is the non-catholic section. I guess assuming that protestants would be treated with respect was just too much to ask… 😊

I don’t think it’s abut being on the board too long. I’m quite drawn to it. I appreciate your dedication to the importance of Christian unity. I wish more Catholics would follow this example, even within our Holy Catholic Church.

Backwoods Blues? I probably don’t get the significance of the “handle”

Yes, a place for discussion of non-Catholic religions. We should always be respectful no matter which section, but unfortunately we are all sinners. We fall short. Don’t be so hard on yourself or others here or presume. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like a lot of Protestants think this is a place where they can freely air their grievances about the CC. That’s what frosts my socks!
