If you are a Christian, what is the real reason for you not being a Catholic? - 2

Entirely my words. A former devote catholic, currently a devote student of my Father’s Word, It seems that there is a negative feeling about born again people Yet Christ’s own words “you must be born again” should address that, If by fundementalist you mean literal interpretation of scripture. By all means I am that. You asked for Bible verses to explain my thoughts I will offer them. But first I find it intresting that everyone seems to think that because someone left the catholic church it was without thought, conviction or passion for our Lord. You worship and pray to Mary and saints. by the doctrine of your church you do. I have heard lofty arguments to say otherwise but in truth you do just that despite the fact that our Father has said that there is one way to Him, through Christ Jesus. You must be born again.` Even Mary said I rejoice 'fore I know my savior is within me. she was saying that she needed a savior too. she was not a diety but a sinner like us, She was not a virgin either as she had children after Christ yet the catholic church has mutilated the greek to say what it does not say in terms of Christ having biological siblings. 2 cor 4:3-4 JN 3:3 1 cor 1:21, Rom 1:19, Rom 10:17, Rom8:34, Heb 9:24, 1JN 2:1, Heb 7:23-25, JN 14:16-17, Eph 4:30
I can give you much more but I will wait until you have reviewed these. Gods speed in this.
Hello again backfrmthebrink,

Your “Father’s Word” (the Bible) is a “Catholic Book” and was passed down to you by the Roman Catholic Church, after it was approved by Roman Catholic Popes but you probably already knew that, right?

How do you know, “the Catholic church has mutilated the Greek” when we know that Protestantism occurred more than a 1000 years after the Cannon was closed.

Many of the beliefs that you have today, would be at odds with Martin Luther himself, now why’s that?

Additionally, the “Born again” crowd hasn’t been around for more than 70 years or so…starting in the United States.

BTW, are you a Greek linguist? Did you or any of the members of your denomination have access to the original, ancient papyrus? Of course not. Your denomination did not exist, until more than a thousand years after the fact, so all of your assumptions, are just that…assumptions.

“Worship Mary”, you know better than that. I am an adult and a Roman Catholic, I am completely aware of the difference between worship and venerate, I DO NOT worship Mary, and I do Not know anyone (Catholics) who do, not a single person.

This whole “Catholics Worship Mary” nonsense, is something that some Protestants have made up as one of their anti-Catholic talking points.

The only people, who ever claim that “Catholics worship Mary”, are non-Catholics. Protestants made this up to cause trouble and to create more division and confusion.

I have never met a Catholic, not a single one, who “worshiped Mary”!

Isn’t honesty an important belief in all Christian denominations?

Any “former Catholics” who makes such a remark is either lying or they did not know their own faith…sorry.

The Catholic Church teaches against any worship other than the worship of God alone!

Even the secular world, recognizes Catholicism to be a monotheistic or “one God” religion, are you implying that there exist more than one God in Catholicism? You must be, if you are asserting that Catholics “worship Mary”.

Any “Catholic” who worship’s Mary is committing a grave sin and acting outside the Church…

Look at the Catechism of the Catholic Church and show me were it states that “Mary Worship” is allowed, it is not and if you were a Catholic, you should know this…right?

Finally, there exists absolutely no credible evidence anywhere, that Mary had any other biological children other than Jesus.

I’m curious, are the spurious, Gnostic Gospels, one of the “sources” that you have used to form your own “Christian’ beliefs?

This is the major flaw with “personal interpretation”, people tend to “fill in the gaps” with their own imagination or by using spurious, false information.

I will address your Bible verses when I have more time. You seem angry, so I am sure you want to post some more anti-Catholic, Protestant “talking points” first, so I will let you get that out of your system and then maybe we can have a friendly, coherent, theological and/or biblically based discussion.

Please try again, thank you.

Peace.

I’m an ex-catholic… I was born and raised Catholic and what turned me from the church was the realisation that the bible was God’s word and anything outside of that was purely from men. Now before you all yell out “Sola scriptura is wrong!” in unison, or “you weren’t really a Catholic!” I just want to say that I believe that the early church fathers ran a very different church to that run today… I wanted to get back to a church that did it like Jesus did it. I realised that the church had become so different to the early church that it just didn’t look like it anymore!
How did you come to this “realization”?

Do you think that the Gospel preached by the Apostles was “purely from men”?

What made you think that the large mustard tree would look like the seed from whence it came?
I found a church where people get healed, people speak in tongues and people really worship Christ. I repented of my sin and asked God to forgive me, and my walk with God is now amazing.
Congratulations! It is great that you have had a spiritual awakening, and an increase of piety. Clearly the seal set upon you at baptism have had a positive effect. 👍
Code:
I'm not against being Catholic per se, I just want people to realise that being born again of the spirit and baptised in the spirit is a real experience with Jesus. And where I was I know that Jesus would have said to me "Depart from me you worker of iniquity, I never knew you."
People are always in need of cleansing an authentic spiritual experience.
And it’s true, I never knew Christ personally. I do now and I praise God for His word, it really does lead people to Him.
Good, I hope you keep reading, and that you learn where your Bible came from - it did not fall out of the sky. 😉

I know you believe that, and for a long time I believed that too. There is no Jesus in the Eucharist (won’t that start some people going off) when you repent Jesus comes INSIDE of you, His spirit and your spirit combine. His righteousness, for your unrighteousness. I used to feel that holy, peaceful feeling in the mass also… but now I don’t feel anything in the church like I used to. It’s an odd feeling but it feels cold to me now.
This is a very common experience among those who approach the Body and the Blood in an unworthy manner. I share this experience with you, and rather than availing myself of the sacrament of reconciliation, I too walked away. This is should not be unexpected, since this is exactly what Paul told the Corinthians would happen.

There are WONDERFUL, holy living Christians in churches, all very SINCERE and who have good reasons for avoiding the Catholic Church. It isn’t that they are trying to avoid living a “holy life,” or “the fullness” of the Gospel. They are not seeking an easier way, but they think that Catholics are doing that.
Thanks for sharing all these points, kaysette. I am not sure if I would call them “good reasons”, since most of them are based on error, but I understand your point.

What brings you here to CAF?

Welcome to CAF backfrmthebrink!
Of the former catholics I know, myself included it was entirly for scriptural reasons and the fact that the catholic church is an apostate church not the church of God in any way shape or form.
Could you please elaborate on when and how the Catholic Church became apostate?
There is only Gods truth in scripture and if these people quote scripture to you and you don’t find yourself convicted of that I would challenge you on why you do not see the truth when it is presented to you. Not mans truth as in the pope or catholic doctrine but God’s Word.
Do you mean to say that God’s truth cannot be found outside of scripture?

Do you believe that the Apostles preached the gospel of Christ, or did they fall away when He died?
You must be born again,
How does this happen?
You must not pray to others
Can you show me the chapter and verse where this is found?

Can you also show me where those who are in Christ,a nd have passed on from this life are “dead”?
and you must walk worthy of the calling you recieved.
It is very Catholic of you to say this! 👍
These are all scriptural directives. Salvation is by faith alone and yet you miss that, you can and are to know you are saved yet catholics call this the sin of presumption.
Can you show me where, in scripture, I can find the words “faith alone” next to one another?

" Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us then who are mature be of the same mind; and if you think differently about anything, this too God will reveal to you. 16 Only let us hold fast to what we have attained." Phil 3:12-16

Can you tell me what attitude Paul is characterizing as “mature”?

Can you explain why Paul needs to “hold fast” if he has already arrived?
I suspect the fact also is that when you want to throw catholic doctrine at them or us rather than anything knowledge of Gods Word, there is no sense to continue with you, for you are still lost and it would be casting pearls amongst the swine so to speak. This is more directed to the person who began the thread
Can you tell me where you think “Catholic Doctrine” came from?

Can you tell me where the NT came from?

Your last statement seems pretty desparing. Do you think Catholics cannot be saved?

Welcome also to the thread. It is persons like yourself that bring many of us here. 😃

Kaysette: it sounds like you are interested in the RCC? if so welcome!!! if not and you are still on a journey, I hope& pray the path your on brings you home to the RCC.

You may have considered yourself devout, but you must have been poorly catechized. Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. Apparently when you were Catholic you were not reading it!

Can you please post the Church documents that state Catholics worship Mary and the Saints?
You must be born again.` Even Mary said I rejoice 'fore I know my savior is within me. she was saying that she needed a savior too. she was not a diety but a sinner like us,
It is very Catholic of you to say this! OH! I know why you are saying that about our Blessed Mother…you read it from a Catholic book! 👍
She was not a virgin either as she had children after Christ yet the catholic church has mutilated the greek to say what it does not say in terms of Christ having biological siblings.
We have reviewed these a number of times, bftb. We know that Mary was ever Virgin because we have received the Divine Deposit of faith from the Apostles. We have received this in the Sacred Tradition, from which the entire NT was produced. For that reason, there are no contradictions between what the Catholic church teaches, and what is written in the bible.

There may be contradictions in the way you are interpreting, however.

You must be born again,
do you think this is something new, that you just discovered? Jesus told Nicidemus this. would you say St. Paul was born again?how about St.Peter[the first pope] how about… I know many Catholics who are born again and have great zeal for Jesus. tell me something new& earthshaking.

So many things/challenges to reply to. I will do my best, forgive me if I leave something out but I am sure there will be those to remind me.
  1. No I am not angry but I do hate the enemy. Within that I also hate those things he uses to hold people in death.
  2. I am in no way ignorant of Scripture and also in no way am I ignorant of caththlosism. You accuse me of stating that I got from a book what is found in Luke 1:46. Mary needed a savior and she refers to herself as a “servant” Even Christ perhaps in His knowledge of what people would do with Mary responded “who is my mother and who is my brother” In fact He directly admonishes Mary three different times in scriptures.
  3. walking worthy of a life we were called to is not catholic but an encouragement from Paul mentioned two different times.
  4. you say that Christ having brothers and sisters is protestant propaganda and there is no historical evidence to suppor it. YET you must not believe Scripture to be evidence worthy of your consideration. Scripture consistently refers to James as well as other brothers and sisters and this not in the way of a general term" but “ach” meaning reletive, member greek “adelphos” implying from the womb reserved for reletive. The issue should be clear that if the catholics point on anything referring to Mary it all falls. This point scripturally is clear to all but the catholics themselves. why is that?
  5. celticcrusader you seem put off by those of us born again. No not new and not as you stated only 1000 years old but 2000 to be more accurate. Peter BTW was not the first pope. Yous ay you do not worsjhip Mary but go to any cath church and see the statues, listen to the prayers can YOU show me in scripture where we are told to pray to Mary for forgiveness? No you can’t because its not in there. We have but one mediator, the man Christ Jesus" That alone ALONE should be enough but funny how it is not.
We have reviewed these a number of times, bftb. We know that Mary was ever Virgin because we have received the Divine Deposit of faith from the Apostles. What in the scriptural world is the "divine deposit of faith and what Apostles are you talking about? Sacred tradition. That is what all the non catholics are talking about. Traditions of men. There are no longer Apostles. Yes you can be apostolic but the position is not open anymore than there will be yet another Christ. I challenge you YOU to show me in Gods word not the pope or the cath church where it says Mary is a perpetual virgin. Let save you time. You will not be able to. Use the mind that God gave you and study His word please.
  1. You know I do not know when it became apostate, If I were to guess I would say around the same time it became the official church of Rome. Rev 17 is all about the catholic church. It is the church in the city that sits on seven hills. (Rome) “drunk with the blood of saints” saint/Mary worship, Rev 18 is her judgement. You say I am angry! I am outraged at that. So many people I love are misled by this church and just fail to in humble prayer to leave the priests out of it and ask God to teach them from His word alone. I am attacked for writing what I have written but I and many around me love so many catholics. People, family, friends we care about who are so lost with catholic propaganda and no knowledge of the Word but the twists that have been ingrained into them from the church.
  2. catholics being saved? I don’t know. I pray that some are. But I am not God and I don’t know if you can have a “saving faith” and still pray to Mary or anyone else. I see paganism, idolitry and to be frank, the enemy’s habd all over that church.
I will have to write more later. perhaps not. You are all in my prayers

Let me remind you that Jesus left us a Church and not a book. Jesus did not speak to a book He spoke to man, He gave instructions to man to follow all He thought.

His Truth is thought trought that One Church.

forgive me, but you sound foolish trying to quote Scriptures to us with your own enterpretation.

the Word of God is not our own enterpretation but it is the enterpretation taht comes from Jesus Church. which we follow according to Jesus will until He comes in glory to judge the living and the dead.

Classic example of taking Christ’s words out of context. Jesus said, “You must be born again of water and the Spirit,” and that IS Baptism.
As for praying “to” Mary and the Saints, well one of the earliest recorded prayers of the early Christians, (Catholics), was a prayer to Mary. and how do you account for all the miracles that have occurred thru the intercession of Mary and the Saints? We do not think of Mary as a deity or the Saints either, and we do not worship them. When are you ever going to get over that tired ole lie. Don’t you know what the 8th Commandment says. You haven’t the slightest idea what you are talking about, your just repeating the same old lies and that is disgusting. Get a life.
If you think Mary had children after the Birth of Jesus, PROVE IT!

  1. No I am not angry but I do hate the enemy. Within that I also hate those things he uses to hold people in death.
This is a good thing, but did it ever occur to you that you might be in error about which are the works of the enemy?
  1. I am in no way ignorant of Scripture and also in no way am I ignorant of caththlosism. You accuse me of stating that I got from a book what is found in Luke 1:46. Ignorance is not a wrong thing. We are all ignorant about something, and most of us are ignorant of many things.

Catholics are in agreement with you that Mary needed a saviour, and that she is the handmaiden of the Lord. There is nothing in Catholic practice that contradicts this truth.

Jesus did not “admonish” Mary - ever. If you think He did, then you misunderstand the scriptures.
Code:
3) walking worthy of a life we were called to is not catholic but an encouragement from Paul mentioned two different times.
Paul is a Catholic. Paul wrote that. It was collected into a Catholic book (the New Testament).
  1. you say that Christ having brothers and sisters is protestant propaganda and there is no historical evidence to suppor it. YET you must not believe Scripture to be evidence worthy of your consideration. We understand what the scriptures are saying, and you do not?
I think this issue is beyond the scope of this thread. If you are reallly interested in knowing why we understand it differently, then I would suggest you search a Mary thread, or read the material in the library.
5). Peter BTW was not the first pope.
What makes you think not?
Yous ay you do not worsjhip Mary but go to any cath church and see the statues, listen to the prayers can YOU show me in scripture where we are told to pray to Mary for forgiveness? No you can’t because its not in there. We have but one mediator, the man Christ Jesus" That alone ALONE should be enough but funny how it is not.
No, it is not enough. We know that we do not worship creatures, or statues, or any other artwork. We are told in scripture to ask forgiveness of anyone whom we offend, starting with our brothers and sisters. The fact that we have one mediator in Christ is a Catholic teaching. I am glad to know you accept this.
"guanophore:

What in the scriptural world is the "divine deposit of faith and what Apostles are you talking about?
This is a very good question, and I thank you for asking it.

Catholics believe that the Word is Christ Himself, who was in the beginning with God. He came to earth to reveal the Father. In Him is found the fullness of truth:

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

The Truth that He brought He committed completely to His Apostles. He empowered and commissioned them to teach this Truth. We have received this teaching in two strands; Sacred Tradition, and Sacred Scripture. These two strands of an inseparable cord comprise the Deposit of Faith.

“…the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.” Jude 3-4
Sacred tradition. That is what all the non catholics are talking about. Traditions of men.
No, these are two different things, often confused by Protestants. Sacred Tradition is the Teaching of the Apostles. Traditions of men are customs that come not from God, but from human beings.
There are no longer Apostles.
Not like the 12 that Jesus chose, but there are apostolic ministries, and the Teaching of the Apostles has survived in full.
Since we are not limited to Scripture, that does not concern me, though I do see it there. I also think this topic is beyond the scope of this thread. If you search Mary ever virgin, you will find plenty of threads on it.
  1. You know I do not know when it became apostate, If I were to guess I would say around the same time it became the official church of Rome.
Do you believe that it is ok for you to bear false witness against your neighbor? I am prepared to accept that you have been misinformed about history from anti-Catholic sources. But that still does not excuse you from spreading lies. If you are going to post messages in a public forum asserting somthing that amounts to calumny and detraction, yet say “I do not know” where you got that information, it sure doesn’t make you look so honest.

I am not sure that the Catholic Church has ever become “the official Church of Rome”. I am not sure what that means. The Church took over the civil duties of administration of Italy during political upheaval in the ninth century, since there was no civil authority to hold the country together. At the time, there were no Christians in the world that were not Catholic.
Rev 17 is all about the catholic church. It is the church in the city that sits on seven hills. (Rome) “drunk with the blood of saints” saint/Mary worship, Rev 18 is her judgement.
You have been taught an error. I am sorry you have been misinformed, but it is not right for you to continue spreading this lie.
You say I am angry! I am outraged at that. So many people I love are misled by this church and just fail to in humble prayer to leave the priests out of it and ask God to teach them from His word alone.
I hope that you will continue to pray for your loved ones, but Jesus institued the priesthood for a reason, and as our great High Priest I am sure that he does not want to be left out Himself! His teaching of the Word, and that of the Apostles, did not come from your New Testament. On the contrary, your New Testament was produced from the Sacred Tradition.
I am attacked for writing what I have written but I and many around me love so many catholics. People, family, friends we care about who are so lost with catholic propaganda and no knowledge of the Word but the twists that have been ingrained into them from the church.
Well, I have tried to be charitable with you, as it is clear that you have been swept away from your faith by ignorance and bigotry. I think this is the best place to get all these errors corrected, so I am glad you are here.
  1. catholics being saved? I don’t know. I pray that some are. But I am not God and I don’t know if you can have a “saving faith” and still pray to Mary or anyone else. I see paganism, idolitry and to be frank, the enemy’s habd all over that church.
Did you know that our perceptions are largely determined by our own life experiences?
I will have to write more later. perhaps not. You are all in my prayers
I certainly appreciate your prayers, and will also pray for you. I hope that you will continue to post here, so that your misinformation can be corrected. 👍

Classic example of taking Christ’s words out of context. Jesus said, “You must be born again of water and the Spirit,” and that IS Baptism.

Go easy Memaw, he has obviously been grossly misled. He may not have any malicious motives at all. They are tired old lies for us, but I don’t think he knows they are lies, and this is the first time he has brought them here, so I think we should give the benefit of the doubt.
If you think Mary had children after the Birth of Jesus, PROVE IT!
I support your invitation, but not on this thread, please!

So many things/challenges to reply to. I will do my best…I do not know when it became apostate, If I were to guess…
Hello again backfrmthebrink,

You remind me of another non-Catholic Christian here, who I liked, who kept me busy. I hope you stay for a while, I enjoy these types of discussions.

Thank you for your post but unfortunately, I do not know where to start. I will attempt to address your issues, one at a time, in later posts.

I am sure that you believe, what you are saying here, however incorrect it may be but you have managed to ignore two thousand years of Christian history and you have completely misinterpreted the Bible.

I don’t know if you actually know what you believe or why you believe it….Ask yourself why you believe what you do and then maybe you’ll realize that you are just repeating what someone else said…repeating the same words and phrases of another person… who is wrong.

I could spend all day posting information refuting everything that you have posted here, which is incorrect. I could also address all the statements here, where we agree and you apparently see a conflict in beliefs, which does not exist. You appear to have a very poor understanding of the Catholic faith.

There is a lot of information out there, so I hope and pray that you continue your journey and grow in your faith and a better understanding of Christianity.

If you want to tackle one “Catholic hurdle” at a time, ask a question and I am confident that others here and I can provide a copious amount of evidence, which all supports the Catholic position…

I have answered the same questions and concerns here that you have, so many times, over and over that I have much of it stored on my computer but I haven’t yet grown tired of answering the same questions, because I enjoy defending my Catholic faith, so give me a question.

In the mean time, here is the link to the on-line Catholic Encyclopedia the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the NAB Bible.

Be nice.

May God bless you! 🙂

**
in each and ever church I attended, I was taught that Catholics were NOT Christians.
that’s true all over the Christian world, that Protestants consider Catholics as non-Christian and even the Pope as the Antichrist.
But:
You won’t find that opinion vice versa. What you find is, that Catholics regret the Protestants shortening of the Holy Scripture. The reason is among others, Matthew 5:22: “But I tell you again, anyone who calles to his brother blockhead is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, he is godless, will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Dinosaurs are millions and millions of years before Man and believe it or not, God created them too.
What about the opinion of a friend of mine, who is convinced, that the hell itself was allowed to create something too, just alike a little Child who “helps” his father, when he mends his car – or a dog “helps you” in digging a whole, where you work in the Garden.
So – all the outcome was disgusting staff that had to be removed. And as we all know, science tell us, that it all was wiped away in one big bang, some say it was the impact of a asteroid. My friend says, ‘t was the hand of God who made an End to this.
But I do not want to get into a discussion about the literal interpretation of the Bible: every person to his or her own understanding.
No, we’d better not, for the theme is right now endlessly discussed in the thread: Creation or Evolution**

We have received this in the Sacred Tradition, from which the entire NT was produced. For that reason, there are no contradictions between what the Catholic church teaches, and what is written in the bible.
There may be contradictions in the way you are interpreting, however.

You are in for a BIG surprise when you walk thru those Pearly Gates.

Go easy Memaw, he has obviously been grossly misled. He may not have any malicious motives at all. They are tired old lies for us, but I don’t think he knows they are lies, and this is the first time he has brought them here, so I think we should give the benefit of the doubt.

I support your invitation, but not on this thread, please!
Why not, he can’t prove that anymore than he can prove most of the other accusations he has made.
He knows what hes saying and he also knows they are not true, he said himself he used to be a “devout” Catholic. He has just let himself be misled by false prophets. To leave the True Faith out of ignorance is one thing but to turn around and throw mud in the face of the Church Jesus Christ founded after being a part of it and "KNOWING " those are lies, is another. If he is soooo happy in his new life, why not just go on and enjoy it. He will be back someday cuz he already knows in his heart he is wrong. There are those who do this sort of thing just to start trouble. And to try to justify what they have done.

I take it, that in the expression
“Pearly Gates”, (Gates with pearls?) is ment the “Door of Heaven” - in German “Himmelstür” 🙂
Though I’m sure here’s no real “door”, even Jesus spoke of a “door” that’s narrow, and very few will be able to get in, which of course is an aphorism, as there is no door to the world either.
Though, there is a big gap between heaven and hell; a insuperable gap – see Luc 16:26: “And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us”.
