As I said, there are times I wish I could be Roman Catholic…
Hello nsper7,

Nice posts, I hope that one day you will come home to the Roman Catholic Church. I think that you would be a good Catholic. I always enjoy reading your posts, thank you!

God Bless You!

I’m a true Christian but not a catholic. I’ve read the Holy Bible several times and know the Word of God. My Bible teacher has read the Holy Bible more than 300 times and is a former catholic.

On November 18, 1302, Pope Boniface VIII proclaimed his “Unam Sanctam.” It decreed that the Church of Rome was superior in authority to national governments, and that obedience to the pope was necessary for salvation.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

No pope there I’m afraid, so wake up you catholics.

Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

The above post kind of makes me sad.

Anyway, yes, this is my first post, and no, I’m not here to bash Catholics.

Right now, I am really, truly exploring what I believe. I am 21 years old, and I am very confused. I long to find a place where I fit in, where I feel a true communion with the Lord - I have never felt that in church and I am saddened by it. I feel incomplete. When others speak of it, I am jealous.

That said, there are many reasons why I am not a Catholic, the first being that I am still exploring. I was raised for 21 years as an Evangelical, and it is hard to leave all that behind. I still have questions, and I want to read and learn a lot before I make my decision. Hopefully just reading these forums will help me in my journey.

I commend you for a willingness and interest in your faith and wanting to explore the various claims to Truth. I am also glad you found these boards.

One thing I do want to say is that if you are truly interested in learning of historic Christianity, you might want to consider meeting with local clergy. After all, they probably have training and knowledge that most laymen simply do not have.

Greetings and welcome, I do not think the Pope spoke infallibly on that issue, I would have to look it up. now I am sure that is not all that he said and it might be possible that things are being taken out of context? now if you really study with an open mind & heart you would see how Jesus set Peter up as the first leader with apostolic succession to follow to present day. But if you are here to just vent go ahead, we have big shoulders.

Welcome you will find some very knowledgeable people at CAF who can answer just about any question. I know some Evangelicals who had some of the same feelings you do, that something was missing. They did read the early church fathers and found what was missing, the Catholic Church. do you watch EWTN on tv there is a good show called The Journey Home, or if you have Sirrus sat. radio ch.160 &159

It’s the “tell the truth” part that gets me. I would think people do tell the truth around here. Why would anyone lie to people they don’t even know? What would be the reason?
Not wanting to be burned at the stake. Have you noticed the high number of posters who mysteriously disappear around here? Jus play’n.😃

This is wild. I used this very quote (the last one) in defense of my argument that Catholics shouldn’t interpret the Bible literally. Some here actually interpret it in a *pro-Catholic *context.

Also, if you read the Bible as if it were one gigantic storybook, simply opening it up at page one and plodding through to the last page, you can read it hundreds of times during your life. BUT…it really wasn’t constructed to be read that way, and doesn’t represent the last word on Christianity, especially when read that way. 😦

What is a true Christian? also I love how we can take a verse or two and make it fit our argument but if you take the Bible as a whole all of a sudden those verses may not work . OK everyone who do you think the first Christian was?

Hello aboabo and welcome to CAF, I look forward to reading your posts.

In order to understand 1 Timothy 2:5, one must read 1 Timothy 2:1-5,

“First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone…This is good and pleasing to God our savior…” 1 Timothy 1,3
1 Timothy 2: 1-5

1 1 First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone,

2 for kings and for all in authority, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all devotion and dignity.

3 This is good and pleasing to God our savior,

4 who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human,
Catholics know that Jesus Christ is the one Mediator but we also know that there are other mediators and intercessors; we believe in the Communion of the Saints, which is in the Creed… which preceded the Bible.

First came Christ, then His (Catholic) Church, then the Creed, then the Bible, then…1500 years after the fact, Protestantism.

The easiest way that I can explain it is this;

*If you were on trial in a criminal court, a defense attorney would mediate or intercede on your behalf. Where the judge, on the other hand, has the authority over everything else in that courtroom, including your final judgment….He is in Charge! *

Jesus is the Judge, the one Mediator over our Final Judgment, and “everthing else”…He (Jesus) is in Charge!

Read - Job 42:1-11, God said -

*“I am angry with you and with your two friends; for you have not spoken rightly concerning me, as has my servant Job. **Now, therefore, take seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up a holocaust for yourselves; and let my servant Job pray for you; for his prayer I will accept, not to punish you severely.” *Job 42:7-8

I am glad that you posted Matthew 23:9 here -

“Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven.”

This helps to illustrate my point here. Obviously, it is not a sin to call one’s biological father, “father” but we know that there is only one God and “Father” in heaven; our Lord.

The Bible is a Catholic Book, therefore everything in it, in one way or another supports Catholicism… when read and understood in context.

In order to teach a Protestant error, one must claim that the Bible is in conflict and that one Bible verse conflicts with another and that is not the case.

The Bible is the “Word of God” and God is not in conflict with Himself.

Another way that Protestant error’s are taught, is to try to make a verse, or a handful of verses, “fit” Protestant beliefs… by taking what is written, out of context.

Therefore, it doesn’t matter how many times one reads the Bible, if someone has the wrong interpretation in mind.

I hope this helps.

Peace.

Some of the previous comments here, demonstrate the need for the Magisterium (the One Holy Church), Holy Tradition and an understanding of Holy Christian History

*Along with Holy Scripture; the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, Holy Tradition and Holy Christian History are also important, in order to understand what Jesus actually taught. *

The Protestant rejection of, the Holy Church, Holy Christian Tradition, and Holy Christian History has lead many into error and has caused many false interpretations of Holy Scripture.
*Additionally, there are some Protestants here, who reject “parts” of Holy Scripture, in preference to other “parts” of Holy Scripture, which “fit” their particular Protestant beliefs, keep in mind that Protestant, non-Catholic Christians argue among themselves about various Bible interpretations. *
Protestantism is Christianity on “our terms” and not on God’s terms.
**
*Many Protestants belong to the “religion of their own intellect", where Catholics, on the other hand, surrender to Christ and to His One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. *

*Catholicism, is the Full Deposit of Faith and represents Christian truth, where others contain partial truths and represent, “partial” Christian faiths. *

Why are you the author of so many threads here all bashing for the most part other faiths? This is the forum for non Roman Catholics I thought wherein we can discuss issues about differences in faith. You seem to want to argue with everyone that your’s is somehow first and best. That would not be the way to convince anyone. Can’t you see that? I think you protest too much. Cannot you accept that other people are perfectly happy in their own faith tradition and, and like you also think theirs is best? I don’t have any reason to tell you that, but I’m quite tired of being told that we owe everything to you. You’re a good reason for people to reject Catholicism it seems rather then inquire into it.

I do not see any bashing going on here and what better place to find seperated brothers&sisters than here in N/C Religions. If you [as you say] don’t owe everything to the Catholic Church, then who? And come to think about it, the last line of your post your hitting Jimmy pretty hard[but I think he can handle it ok]
