If you are not Catholic what brings you to Catholic.com?

I was Catholic when I first starting visiting this site. I have since de-converted, but drop by occasionally.

Is it possible some who were Catholic and went on to other spiritual paths still hold a place for Catholicism in their heart? Maybe. Or (understandably), some may want to expound upon their long lived or new found belief system and share it with others.

For me, I drifted from being raised Catholic and attending Catholic schools to multiple Protestant denominations for 15 years because I embraced (possibly out of pure rebellion) what I was hearing about the “untruths” of Catholicism. Although I came back to the church before “discovering” CAF, I find it to be a great tool for all faiths as it increases dialogue between different religions.

I have seen some argumentitive discussions between faiths but more often it is civil, or civil and stern which makes sense because we have convictions. I also think it is fair to challenge ones beliefs in a courteous way although with writing you sometimes think a person is being mean because you can’t see their face. And, sometimes they are mean, but that’s life. I believe Christ to be the way the truth and the life. Then Paul stood up in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens I see in every respect you are extremely
religious. For as I was going about and observing objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription; ‘To the Unknown God’. What therefor you worship in ignorance, that I proclaim to you.” Acts 17: 22

To learn more about Catholicism, correct the occasional misconceptions about Lutheranism, and good Christian dialogue. And frankly, this forum is generally more charitable than some others online.
I’ll second that. I probably spend more time on CAF than on any other forum. I enjoy the discussions and manage to learn something in the process.
I will third that. I also find I have more in common with Catholicism then other Christian denominations.

Nearly all do, however it is not required. I almost never do (although I have read heavily into it just incase the need arises). I’ve read to much Robert E. Howard to ever use magic for something I’m capable of doing myself.

Most (but not neccisarily all) of us will not cast a spell directed to harm anyone because it comes back at you 3 times stronger.
wow interesting

I was baptised and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church, and it still influences my Gnostic Catholic spirituality. I still use a lot of the RC prayers I learned, and definitely have more in common with Catholics than Protestants, haha! Honestly, I also have a lot in common with Buddhists and Wiccans as well – I just enjoy religion in general. 🙂

I always like to know why different faiths come to the Catholic forums 🙂
Philosophy and Theology have always been past-times of mine, and I find the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches have the strongest theological positions, in terms of the Bible, history, and in the coherence in what they teach.

Hey i am catholic i come in this thread, just want to see answers.

I tend to go through cycles where I’ll be interested in a particular faith or belief system. I’ll usually go to the biggest forum to ask questions and that sort of thing.

I was listening to some chant the other night and decided to drop by here. The last time I visited was in 2010.

It hasn’t changed a bit. Watching everyone interact here reminds of why I’ll never be Catholic, among other things that are a bit too personal.

Still, watching the sparks fly between Christians can be educational and edifying.

I would ditto that. I was raised catholic, went to catholic school for 13 years, and understand the catholic religion (or atleast the basics). I also wouldn’t mind to dispel the nasty rumor we worship the devil. .
I don’t think anyone here has made that claim

Never is a pretty permanent statement. How come?

Not on this thread, but unfortunately some do, the most recent just earlier this week actualy. It’s much worse with protestants though, you guys are generally a bit more understanding about other religions.

I was searching for something on Google, saw a thread in this site and signed in to reply, later I got some messages on my email and that’s how I got involved with other debates here.

I grew up thinking I was Catholic until I went to HS and when I got my ID it said NOT CATHOLIC on it. I was traumatized. lol

Episcopalians say I believe in One holy and apostolic church. So I really thought I was a Roman Catholic.

I went to Catholic school obviously. 🙂

I work at a Catholic University and take the required religion classes. I like to get a fair representation on the thoughts of the people who practice the faith. I would never dare say well Catholics are this or that. Also, the believe structure is very close to my religion. I enjoy reading the thoughtful posts from the members.

Ehh true. I read a little on Wicca and (from what I know) they’re a religion of Nature who believe in a supreme Goddess. But some Wiccans (unfortunately) call upon Lucifer for power etc etc.

I hope you’ll never do this 🙂

I ain’t one to judge but yeah I agree.

I believe in Wiccan Magic but you should really be careful. The spiritual world is insane when it comes to humans using power or magic

Also, are you a Christian Wiccan?

Partially right. There is a branch of Wicca called Dianic who worship only the Goddess however most Wiccans beleave that there is both a God and Goddess who are like Ying and Yang, they may also be represented by traditional europen dietys like Thor, Freja, the Morigan, Zeus, ect. Wiccans however do not beleave in Satan.

You are right, the occult can be very dangerouse. But rather than inherantly evil as Christianity does we see it as containing a verity of spirits and powers from the whole spectrum. It’s still very important to exercise caution though, there is some very powerful stuff out there. I personally almost never use magic or divanate, I don’t have any need to at the moment.

Yep. Wiccans worship God(s) and Deist Satan Worshipers worship satan.

Make Sure you do not overly abuse the system. I personally believe, like mentioned above, that magic can be used. But it is in my view an abuse of nature. We should live our lives the way Humans should

But you have your faith and I have mine. We will see who is right at the end of time. 😃

A whole list of reasons, at least one of which is rather personal.

Suffice to say, if I ever convert to Christianity, I’ll probably go with Orthodoxy.
