If you could choose, whom would you choose?

If you could choose to spend one hour with anyone in the New Testament other than Jesus and Mary, with whom would you choose to spend that hour? Why? What would you most want to learn in that hour?

I think Paul would be too exhausting, I think I would get along with Luke, a fellow history buff.

Joseph. I’ve got so many questions for him. Did he and Jesus ever wrestle around on the floor like me and my son do? Did he ever sneak some goodies out of the “kitchen”? How quick did Jesus pick up on the carpentry stuff? I know being a carpenters son, it’s a challenge. How about the deceased wife and other children? How did those kids turn out? Man, I’ve got a list for Joseph. I would love to spend some time with him.

I’m conflicted. From a spiritual point of view I would want someone who had known Jesus in life and could talk about the experience of knowing Him, maybe John the Apostle or Mary the sister of Martha and Lazarus. From a theological point of view I’d want to discuss justification and predestination with Paul.

yep Joseph would be it for me too, from the carpentry (anybody wonder where all the furniture Jesus made went, or was it good), to wrestling and strength training, how to explain the birds and the bees to God himself, teaching him to read from the Torah… did he ever scold Jesus and how did Jesus react (because it would always be unjust). Yep… Joseph must have a lot to say

I guess I’m going to be the oddball here. I would spend my hour with Judas Iscariot; ever since I was little I always wanted to know what reasons he had to betray Jesus, why he felt he had to, or how under the influence of the Devil he really was.

My next choice would be Paul so I could ask him what he meant when he wrote the verses Protestants use to prove Sola Fide.

Peter. I’m more interested in hearing about all the pivotal moments in Christ’s ministry and the early church. Peter was there for them all.

Peter, if only to hug him for being so human! He made so many mistakes. It is easier for the rest of us sinners to keep coming back to Christ.

Joseph would definitely be my choice, too. I’d like to compliment him on a job well done. My second choice would be Veronica. It took a lot of courage to come out of the crowd and wipe the face of Jesus. I’d like her to give her a big hug. I’d like to think that if I’d been an onlooker, that I would have done that, too.

John, he’s always intrigued me as the beloved disciple. talk about a fascinating person. Paul is second, but i think an hour would hardly be enough.

Peter!!! I just love Peter, he’s so like all of us, so human, so real.

It would be fascinating to hear Pontius Pilate, Caiaphas and King Herod give their version of events…

I’m thinking James or John. John’s Gospel’s great because it’s like “subtly? What’s that?” and James was immensely popular with both Jews and Christians.

St. Longinus, just to hear in his own words what it was like to be baptize in Our Lord’s own Blood.
or St. Dismas as to what it was like to walk into the gates of Heaven with Our Lord.
or St. Lazarus on being raised from the dead and then assumed into heaven. :harp:

My vote is for Paul, considering his contribution to the New Testament and to Gentile conversions.

I would like to spend my time with Peter. I would invite him to my house for dinner. But in reality i would be driving him to a secret facility. On the way there i imagine that peter would be asking all types of suspicious questions such as

why is it taking so long

or, once we had arrived at the designated location, asking

that doesn’t look like a house”,

to which i would reply

thats how us modern people do things

As we approach the facility, i would press a secret button to signal two heavily armed guards. These guards would proceed to grab peter and take him into the facility. In response to this, a wailing peter would cry out

What is the meaning of this madness!!!

To which i would reply in a calm but creepy voice

I am sorry peter, but surely you didn’t think i was going to let you leave before the festivities, did you?. I have to know the truth

Once inside the facility, i would have him strapped down to a chair, injected with truth serum, and hooked up to a polygraph machine. After which i would commence in asking him questions about Jesus, such as

did you stick you figure in the crucified hands of Jesus Christ.”

Once i had obtained the evidence and the data that i required, i would drive peter to Richard Dawkins house, and cry out.

i told you! I knew it all along; you son of *****!!!, God real!!!

Peter for sure.

If I could have one more guest, it would be the thief on the cross who made it into Paradise with Jesus because of His faith. What I would not give to ask him a few questions. He gives me hope in my life.

The Good Thief is the answer I should have given.

Yes the thief. The most interesting character, and most fortunate, in human history. I wonder where he was when Jesus was giving his ministry? Busy thieving? I wonder if he stole to feed his family or if he stole for the sake of stealing like Augustine?

Were the words “Remember me when you enter your kingdom.” a statement of genuine faith? Or was it inauthentic; merely a statement of compassion directed toward the dying man Jesus who was being mocked for no apparent reason, and who the thief may have believed to be insane?

Since we know a good deal about Paul from his letters and from the Acts of the Apostles, I would like to know more about Peter. We know about him also from the Acts and from two epistles, and maybe he was the primary source for the Gospels, but we don’t get to know much about the implied tension between Peter and Paul, which I find really fascinating.

I’d like to know what Peter thought of Paul behind closed doors! That would be a revelation!

My second choice would be Joseph, as we know so little about the childhood of Jesus or his talents as a carpenter.

My third choice, John. Why was he the favorite of our Lord’s disciples?
