If you have a dishwasher how often do you use it?

My dishwasher works about 20% of the times I use it - something wrong with the timer thingy. Anyway, we tend to hand wash our dishes because of that. My mom has a dishwasher and she uses it for storage - she always handwashes her dishes. So I was wondering how many people who have a dishwasher actually use it.

I use it every day, sometimes twice a day. We have three teenagers who are still growing and seem to eat constantly. I get it started right before I go to bed, and hubby disconnects it in the morning when he wakes up.

I have one and use it every day! the only thing I will handwash are the pots and pans. Using the dishwasher if an energy efficent one use less water than handwashing dishes…better for the enviroment 🙂

Aunt Martha, you were quick with that one 😃

I always felt that one of the chores for children (including teenagers) was doing the dishes. In my old house that usually meant loading and un-loading the dishwasher - in this new house (okay, we have lived here now two years) the dishwasher has issues, as in it only works about twice a week so I don’t use it and I see no need to spend the money on getting it fixed or buying a new one - I have a child in College now and can’t justify the expense!

My ive just finished making my bed, and now the dishes without a dishwasher, is it ok to leave them to drip dry.The sun is shining here for once so im out of here before you find more jobs to do. 😉 My wife and i would like a dishwater though. 👍

Daily. Whenever I have any dishes that need to be cleaned, I just call the dog over and he takes it from there! 😃

Love the dishwasher. Do everything but the pots and pans and sharp knives. I remember when I didn’t have a DW and lived through it, but this is one luxury I am truly greatful for along with the automatic washing machine and dryer. How many remember doing the family laundry with the wringer washer??? Hanging the laundry on the clothes line? I guess that is another thread.🙂

Love and peace

Havent got one! Either my Dad, my Mum, or one of us older kids will do the washing up :yup:

**I LOVE my dishwasher…It cuts down on colds and other nasty stuff, and is SO easy to use. The only thing is that I am short, so unloading the dishwasher is a pain…Hard to reach the cabinets to put things away.

Also…I used to wash baby bottles in the dishwasher, knowing the water was hotter in there than my hands could ever stand…It’s great for when (unknown to you, of course) a dog or cat has inadvertently licked a plate. Things get CLEAN…

Can’t imagine any dishwasher that uses less water than handwashing will get the dishes properly clean!

We fill the sink in the morning with soapy water and wash last nights snack dishes and breakfast dishes, then don’t fill it againg until we do the dinner dishes - so lunch dishes (usually one or two plates and a knife) wait until then. Yes, there are only four of us here and two of them are adult children who are only home for the summer 🙂

Oh, and drip drying is the only way to go! It is supposed to be more sanitary but if we want the kitchen to look nice we dry them and put them away right away.

Not that I have noticed, I have often had, even with my wonderful Kenmore, times when the dishes were not clean and if it is a matter of sanitizing dishes, wash in a dishpan, rinse once in a solution of about one tablespoon bleach and a sinkful of water and then rinse in clear water, allow to drip dry and it is as sanitary as using extremely hot water. It also allows you to keep the hot water heater turned down thus saving energy there and preventing a child from getting burned.

Y’all can see I am currently anti-dishwasher but that is more because mine doesn’t work right now and I refuse to buy a new one and I also refuse to have the repair guy come again to adjust something and tell me it could be the timer (which I told the original guy).

ah, well, and my bed is made and now I have to go help my oldest cut and sew her Brides Maid dress!

Mine broke down years ago. I use it every day, to store dishes; I never liked it anyway…Everything came out smelling funny, & the food tasted like it had chemicals in it.

We spent quite a bit getting our dishwasher fixed and the guy told us that you have to use it at least once a week to keep it running properly once it is fixed. So I try to do that. It is just me and my husband here and we don’t generate enough to use it every day. But should you get it fixed, use it regularly!

I do know about using a dishwasher regularly if works. It has something to do with the gaskets needing the moisture from the water/steam. That is what is so funny about mine - if I use it everyday, things don’t come out clean, if I use it about once a week, it works okay.

Now, like someone else said, I agree with the “chemical” taste from dishes washed in a dishwasher but I have only noticed that with the ones I have owned and used, never at my MIL’s or other peoples houses.

I have made my own dishwasher soap though that was very environmentally safe, used baking soda and borax. Really liked that solution as my dishes did get clean and there was no chemical smell in the house when the thing was running and no residue on the dishes (seemed to rinse off better than any soap I bought). Of, course this was all pre-this current dishwasher 🙂

My thoughts exactly. (Though I am a “mother of FEWER than 5”!)

Have one; it’s broken. I prolly should have my apt. mgr get it repaired. But it’s just little ol’ me so I don’t think I accumulate enough dishes. I question the efficiancy of using it.

It was the one non-negotiable when we were looking for a house. If the house did not have a dishwaher I di not want the house. :nope:
