Yeah, I know the answer is “I’ll never stop being catholic” or “the catholic church is the one true church founded on Peter” etc, etc.

But I’m just curious as to where you think the other religions stand as far as “runner up” in Truth. So loosen up. You won’t have to go to confession for voting who takes 2nd place. 🙂

In fairness, I’ll divulge that I am a catholic converting to Orthodoxy.

Well, in order for me to stop being Catholic, you’d have to definitively prove to me that it was incorrect, and in order to do that, you’d probably have to completely disprove God to me. I could envision a scenario where I would become Orthodox (for other reasons), but if you could actually disprove Catholicism, I would almost certainly be atheist. In my mind, if Catholicism isn’t correct, than there isn’t a God. No other denomination seems plausible to me.

When I did it was to the Reformed Christian camp I went. Converting from Protestantism I don’t think it will ever leave me.

Orthodox–no doubt in my mind about that one…😃

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

This would assume “papism” is a heresy, so that would mean I would choose the Orthodox Church–the Oriental Orthodox that is. Especially since they have signed joint statements of Christology with the EO. They didn’t submit to Leo (and subsequent Popes for hundreds of more years) like the EO Church did so they seem to have the purer path.

Of course, I believe in “papism” and believe it went well before Leo, but this is pretend so I pretended it didn’t 😃

I didn’t vote, because I didn’t see “non-denominational” on the list.

If I were to leave the Catholic Church, it would clearly be a rejection of authority. So, in rejecting authority, there would be no point in finding another faith (Christian or otherwise) that had it’s basis in “man-authority”…so I might as well go the SolO Scriptura route…aka “Bible Church”.

If I were permanently put where there were NO Catholics in existence and no chance of leaving, I would choose Orthodox, because I couldn’t give up the Eucharist. But I think I would find Judaism more comfortable.

I feel very close to the Orthodox people I know. We don’t discuss differences in faith. I think because we have the sacraments in common we feel like family.

I would group nondenomenational into the reformed branch

If I where contemplating converting, I would go out into a desert place, fast and go to adoration, confession and clear everything, and wait to hear from God. If I do not hear from God, I would remain until I did. I would not let man, or appearances infulence my decision, it would have to come from within, the Holy Spirit would have to guide me.

My conversion would be to go back to my anscestors religion. Sacraficing of humans, drinking of blood and conquering peoples, in order to sacrafice to the unknown Diety. If I found Christianity to be a fraud. The only thing keeping it together for me, is my Lord and my God, and his precious body The Roman Catholic church. Jesus suffices all of me, in his precious body and blood The blessed Sacrament.

When I DID stop being Catholic (well, stopped most all Catholic practice and disagreed with enough doctrine that effectively I wasn’t) I didn’t go to any other religion.

Catholicism being completed Judaism and the ultimate and original expression of Christianity, I felt that if it wasn’t true most none of it was. So in effect I was agnostic though not actually atheist.

I am Orthodox Catholic. And I could not foresee leaving the Holy Orthodox Church. But since it is make believe, I would choose the Old Roman Catholic. I have nice childhood memories of the pre-Vatican II praxis.

I do not get some of you people for the life of me. If you had reason to believe that Catholicism was not true, you would be atheist??
Atheism is a broken system that leads to despair, immorality, pessimism, and can never lift man above themselves to a greater good.
Most every religion is preferable to the emotional bankruptness of atheism…
I do not get some of you people at all…
former atheist talking here…

If Catholicism is wrong, then Christianity is wrong. I’d convert to Sikhism; I think Guru Nanak is way cool. 🙂

I don’t get it either. If the pope is wrong, there is no God. whatever.

If the pope is wrong than Christ is wrong. Would it ever occur to you that catholics could have made an error concerning the bishop of Rome’s role in the Church. Papal authority is hardly that clear from the Bible and the Fathers to warrant such an repudiation of Christ if the Roman bishop role was exaggerated. But I’ll respect your opinion
