The Catholic Church in England is not as orthodox as you think. While we do not experience the same kind of blatant heresy and liturgical abuse that many Americans deal with, we have our fair share of dissenters. The difference between the Americans and the English is that the English do their best to conceal their dissidence. If you scratch below the surface, you will find many priests who disagree with Church moral teachings etc. I have personally heard priests speak against Humane Vitae in private conversation; these same priests come across as models of orthodoxy during Mass! As English Catholics, we have a lot to be proud of and a lot to be thankful for. However, this does not mean that our Church is not without problems. Based on my personal experience, I would say that the Church in America is in far better shape than the Church in England.I have been coming to these forums I have learned so much, or have been made aware of just how orthodox the Catholic Church here in England and Wales is. I can’t speak for Scotland and Northern Ireland. I don’t think that I have ever come across a cafeteria Catholic who is practising.
