…what changes would you make to the Catholic Church? grabs popcorn and sits back…
This actually wasn’t mandatory before the mid-19th century. I certainly agree that the Tabernacle should always be prominent, and never “tucked away” (I detest Adoration ‘broom closets’), but for devotional reasons a Tabernacle “shrine”, if you will, as is the case in many cathedrals and churches, at one side of the sanctuary does have merrits. In the cathedral of my Archdiocese the tabernacle sits in a prominent shrine on the right-hand side of the sanctuary (from the perspective of the nave). The faithful can kneel along the far right-hand end of the altar rail and pray before Our Lord, a pratice that would be much more difficult if the tabernacle was at the far back of the sanctuary.
- require Tabernacles to be in the center of an altar
And dream on and on and on! LOL3)Mandate that priests wear Collars and Nuns wear habits.
- Restructure the Novus Ordo to match the 1965 missal and continue to allow the extraordinary rite as has been since 9/14/07
- Ban Haugen and Hass from being published in ANY catholic music book
4)Ban anything written by Joe Huebsch from being used for Faith Formation
5)Ban the term “faith formation” and replace it with CCD or Confraternity of Catholic Doctrine.
5)decommsion any church that looks like an alien spacship. (this could take years)
And on and on and on
- require confessionals that resemble ones used 50 years ago
- require Tabernacles to be in the center of an altar
- No circle churches
- ban altar girls.
Anything wrong with how the Church was then?In other words, “Backwards, march!”
This would go a very long way into unifying the Church in belief. Two things:
- Make the Baltimore Catechism mandatory for religion classes.
Also ban any music books that come from the Oregon “Catholic” Press.
- Ban Haugen and Hass from being published in ANY catholic music book
Remember, Traditionalists are now the progressives and yesterdays progressives are now the TraditionalistsIn other words, “Backwards, march!”
But no matter how “conservative” the reversions and restorations would be, they wouldn’t be enough for some people.
Gluttony is already classified as a capital sin. So would you classify all of the seven capital sins into mortal sins?I’d classify gluttony as a grave sin / mortal sin. And bring back fasting.
However long we have Benedict, it won’t be long enough. What a brain he has. He is just such a jewel for the church. I suspect after him, there will be a lot of caretaker popes. Gosh, we don’t need more change, do we?If I were Pope I would be in a shock induced coma. If and when I woke up I would have to pray and ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy. Then my first official act would be to resign. I am totally unqualified for such a task.
That’s why I am not the Pope and never will be.
As a lay person I do have a few suggestions. Holiness, holiness, holiness, and finally holiness on the part of all members of the church.
