I'm a one-issue voter

Sorry, I have to correct my own posting. I meant to say that legal abortion was NOT put in place by voters. Voters had pretty much voted into place legislatures which were more pro-life, with many states restricting abortion. It was courts which overturned voters and legislatures. That’s why voters are now stuck with trying to change courts–because we no longer get to vote on abortion.

I might add that being pro-life has generally helped candidates more than being pro-abortion when it comes to getting elected.
It was forced on the people which is why we have had 35 years of turmoil in this country. It is the greatest moral issue to face us since slavery-if saying that makes me a fool so be it(I am a “fool” the same way Paul was)

Too many Catholics give their representative a pass as long as he delivers the bacon and declares he is not in favor of killing his children-just favors the right of other people to use our money to kill their children.

Over 12,000 children have been slaughtered since this thread started.

Yea, I’m a one issue voter too.
If you are for abortion, then I’m not for you…

AMEN.

The point should be made that being oppossed to abortion on demand does not automatically mean we should vote for them It is just the base qualification they must meet before we should even consider voting for them.

abortion is not going to be banned anytime soon, that’s a fact of political life that’s you’ve got to come to grips with. given that, you’re willing to let someone else is make all the other public decisions for you? this country can take the wrong path in a lot of ways other than abortion, and that’s a consequence of single issue voting.
I disagree. Abortion could be banned by one Supreme Court decision. That would take one death or resignation a prolife president and a majority in the Senate that is not Democrat. The only way your first statement could be correct is if the Senate continues with a Democrat majority and a Democrat president is elected.

The major differences in other ways are that the Democrat party favors expansion of middle class benefits, whereas the Repub party does not. Otherwise, neither does much of anything for the poor, and neither has done so for decades.

You should not be so surprised that you drew fire in here. When you come into a Catholic forum and encourage Catholics to vote for abortion, you should expect it.

So a “few” dead children is acceptable as long as the pot holes are filled? I guess that is what is called" collateral damage"
I recall a country that elected a leader not so long ago because he made the trains run on time.

do you really think this is the worst kind of government? there are many places where you’d be jailed for even making that statement. the cops aren’t going to beat a confession out of you and you can worship as you want, believe what you want, say what you want, protest all you want, vote your conscience or not at all.

the constitution ensures that the government functions by assuming that all politicians are ambitious and self interested semi-crooks. I don’t know what you mean by statesmen, all higher office seekers are extremely ambitious men and women, some of them are better than others.

if you think you’ve lost freedoms, to what year would you roll back the clock and p(name removed by moderator)oint as an ideal?
Yes, I think the government we have now is the worst kind of government. It is very naive to think that one is free to do all the things you listed without some sort of repercussions. Good grief- the government is now telling restaurants in New York what kind of cooking oil they must use! Where I live, a business owner can’t even smoke in his own business! What’s next? Weighing fat people and telling them how much they are allowed to eat? We are like frogs in the pot. We are letting them get away with taking away our freedom a little bit at a time. We’re accepting it without a fight because we think we’re powerless. And that’s exactly what the government is counting on.

By statesman, I mean someone who thinks that the people he leads aren’t idiots.

I wouldn’t roll back the clock. I’d just like all the freedoms I was given by our Founding Fathers. 🙂

yes, I can see how government mandated cooking oil is beyond the Pale, outrageous and indicative of the worst kind of government…

True enough, but which of these issues is more important then life itself?

I am sure if a more important issue came along, I would consider it. But I can see nothing of greater importance then life.

excellent. I encourage you not to vote, that will sure teach me I mean them. I’ll be more than happy to elect my slate of people run the civil side of things.

and if we put that freeway through your yard or the halfway house next to yours, don’t complain.

So your freedom to not have a freeway through your property (a freedom that is already compromised) is more important then life.

What else do you place before life?

I’m sensing strawmen lurking everywhere. whoever said that property rights or any other kind of right was absolute?

I want to be clear on your position. are you saying that until the abortion issue is solved, you won’t vote for a city councilman who promises to fill in pot holes?

Every city councilman always promises to fill in pot holes. Some do, some don’t. Are you saying you would vote for a promoter of abortion so long as he promised to fill in pot holes?

No. What I am saying is that until abortion is banned in this country, my first priority is abortion. If the candidate is not pro-life, I do not consider them at all. If all candidates are pro-abortion, then I will look to the one that will do the least damage to the cause.

No, this does not filter down to every level. There are many elected positions that can have no effect at all on the issue.
In those, I am free to consider anything else.

Not if he supports abortion on demand.

You were the one that brought up the property rights.
See the above quote.
I just noted that in so doing, life is placed in a priority other then first. Nothing at all was said about the right being ‘absolute.’

If you would like to drop the property rights that you brought in, that is fine.😉

Another thing to ask - is your candidate going to keep funding planned deathhood (parenthood) to the tune of $305,000,000 again next year?

Will your candidate fund planned parenthood’s attack on your child?

Wow. How dramatic. I was having a Mommie Dearest flashback for a moment there. 😉

‘Perfectly Normal?’ Planned Parenthood assaults children

http://www.catholic.org/images/ins_news/2007112730.jpg

WASHINGTON, DC (CNA) - A self-described sexual health children’s book is so graphic in its contents that material from it has been banned from a state prison and several web sites.

The book, titled ‘It’s Perfectly Normal’, has been targeted by the American Life League (ALL) as completely inappropriate, especially since its instruction is aimed at children ages ten and up.

Endorsed by Planned Parenthood, it contains written descriptions and cartoon depictions of sex acts, including two pictures of teenagers engaged in masturbation. The text is dismissive of religious disapproval of masturbation and also discusses deviant sex acts.

Free copies of the book are distributed to children at an annual party sponsored by Planned Parenthood.

The reason I am posting this is this is abortion related.

Again, will your candidate continue fo fund this?

Isn’t it perfectly normal?.. we all evolved so our genes can survive to the next generation. Having offspring is one way to accomplish them.
