I didn’t know if joining a non-denominational prison ministry and Bible study was okay with the Church, I will be talking with and praying with inmates as well as bringing a Catholic perspective to the group. (baptist, presbetyrian, not sure of the others) I do know they will have an occasional “communion service” that I will NOT be participating in, but I just don’t know how the Church feels about it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I can’t imagine there being any general problems in these ecumenical times. Perhaps in the specifics, but so long as everyone remembers where they all stand, I can’t imagine a problem

Well, according to many Baptist converts here at CAF, they were not especially well disposed toward Catholicism while in their prior communions. This has occasionally been my experience as well. However, this remains an opportunity for the OP to reveal the richness and depth of our faith to those of other communities. It is also a prime time to defend the Church. Catholicism for Dummies. I just cannot recommend it highly enough.

Still, a good idea for the OP to get some counsel from their Priest.

Agreed… I put a call in to my priest. Thank you 👍

Not that this will happen, but be prepared for a little “piling on” by other Christians. Some just instinctively go after the Catholic Church, while forgetting their own disagreements. 🤷 I pray that this will not occur.

Funny, but here in the UK the other mainstream faiths (i.e. Anglican, Methodist) etc. are somewhat in decline and thus less confrontational (having more in common with Catholics than with the average antitheist!). Plus, the Church of England was largely established because a King wanted divorce - and was less keen on other doctrinal changes!. I suppose the born again types may well be more aggressive over differences

Here across the pond, it is almost open warfare in some cases. Certain Fundamentalist Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists, Reformed Christians and others are openly hostile to anything Catholic. Not all, but those who are remain very easy to identify.

What you lot need is a bit of atheism oppressing you to draw you all together!!! 😦

Well, we have no such authority as Mr. Hitchens, but we have some pretty keen amateurs at work.
Oddly, Hitchens barely registers over here! It’s Dawkins all the way, plus perhaps Stephen Fry and a good number of other mainstream comedians

My thoughts. How is this working out for you? to which church do you think the immate should go to? how about the teachings? which teachings do you think the immates should believe? you do realize how different they are, dont you? how is a Catholic and protestant in teh same place evangelizing different things can work? We have priests and they have self appointed pastors. do you realize how this is confusing to the immates? How is Christianity going to be believed by the umbilievers if they are recieving two different teachings? I stay away from false religions and believe only in One Truth. It is my desire that all come to the CC and not protestant gatherings.

UPDATE:

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and comments.😉

Two weeks ago, I spoke with the Priest in my diocese and he referred me to a Catholic woman who is doing Catholic prison ministry. I contacted her, we met for coffee and I am so blessed having met her and now having her a part of my life. We are now going to the prison together every week and we are having wonderful visits and Bible studies with the inmates.

What an amazing blessing!
Thank you all and God Bless!
