I have a really ignorant question. Do seminarians pay tuition (like students in protestant seminaries), or are they considered more like being in one of the military academies, where they don’t pay tuition, but are expected to serve? Also, can the laity take seminary courses, and if so, do they pay tuition?
My understanding is that dioceses pay the tuition and room/board for their seminarians. (But not other expenses.) What happens if the candidate drops out (do they have to repay anything), I don’t know.
