Lethargy, salivation, stomach grumblings, extreme aversion to vegetarian stuff, picturing my roommate as a cheeseburger, etc. What can I do?!

As silly as you think your ‘withdrawal symptoms’ are, it could be that your body is missing a specific nutrient or amino acid. I know you are not eating meat because of lent but are you substituting other things for the nutrition you need? Amino acids come from protein and your body has to have it to function. Some nonmeat ways to get those amino acids is to eat tofu. There is a great tofu burger made my Morning Star Farms. Also, find some tofu recipes on the net, there are some good ones out there. ALso, eating beans and rice together can give you the nutrients you need as well. So don’t ignore these withdrawal symptoms, i think your body is trying to tell you something.

Oh and don’t eat your roommate even if he does look like a cheeseburger. 👍

I agree with the above post - make sure you are getting plenty of protein from other sources. Fasting isn’t meant to endanger our health.

I also am not a fan of “veggie burgers” and other faux meats. I am happier preparing flavorful dishes with beans, pasta, fish, etc. rather than something that is a mere imitation of what I am trying to avoid. That seems to make things worse.

If you are getting the nutrition you need - then offer it up, my friend. That’s the meaning of Lenten sacrifice.

I’m in my office, and there’re no snacks, well, except for some dried-up doughnuts that have been sitting there for a month. Oh yea, plus some moldy cereals. I think I would seriously die of starvation if TV dinners and takeout didn’t exist.

Right, back to the meat stuff. Well, I don’t know if my body is trying to tell me something, but my stomach sure is! Let’s see, I had a blueberry muffin for breakfast today, then I had some barely edible vegetarian stuff from the cafe. I think it was stuffed peppers, yuck! Probably skipping dinner tonight, too, since I have to work late. Yea, I’m definitely offering this up, if I don’t die before then.

lol. Yeah, I hear ya buddy. I go through the same thing.

Whenever I stop eating meat, eggs, potatoes, peanut butter, milk, and so on are a substitution if I’m not going all out. But this is sometimes too hearty, too much.

All out is good too. Thin soup, bitter herbs, next to nothing to nothing that sort of thing.

:bigyikes: lol. Oh, you poor guy! Did you give up ALL meat for Lent? Because we’re only supposed to abstain on Friday’s.

I’ve been having serious 🍕 withdrawals. But I specifically gave it up. :o Just 4 more weeks… then, I have a “date” with Pizza Hut. :rotfl: Hoping in the meantime, that Our Good Lord will erase my interest in pepperoni pizza.

Dude, I gave up meat altogether for Lent. How do you think I feel? It’s only one day, man. 🙂 You’ll be just fine if you remember that there is more to eat than you think. 😉

There was talking about eating people’s dogs on another thread recently, and let me tell you Rover can get pretty appetizing!

No no, that’s what I did, too! I’ve gone over 3 weeks without meat now. It’s torture, I tell ya!

Just bought some smoked salmon. At least it will taste like meat!

Sometimes… if you dump ketchup, mustard and pickles all over a “Boca Burger”… it can taste pretty close to the real thing. You might give that a try. “Boca Burgers” are available in the freezer section… along with other vegetarian foods.

Hang in there!

beans are a great source of protein.I basically live off of them! green veggies are good for vegetarians as well. yay iron!

:yup: Yeah, fish is good. My mom buys it especially for me. Also, there’s a Mexican restaurant nearby-- very authentic; they have a Lent menu!!!

A Lent menu! I couldn’t tell you how happy I was to see that! 😃

I look at taht site every day adn I can’t believe I missed that one. I LOVE that site. I also love i can haz a hotdog.

Sorry to get off topic.

Go eat some eggs. I’m not a vegetarian but I rarely eat meat just because I don’t like it too much. When I start feeling funny from going too many days without meat, I eat some eggs and always feel better they have a lot of the nutrients and amino acids you need.

If you aren’t going to eat meat until April, you need to seriously rethink your food choices. That blueberry muffin was nothing but quick sugar and it will go in and go away really quickly. I bet you were starving by lunchtime. And I am not sure about your lunch but I can see why you feel bad.

Just make better choices. First of all carbs are not bad, not at all. I am an avid cyclist so my diet is about 80% carbs. But carbs go are used very quickly. You need to take in some protein for nutrient reasons and because protein will make you feel fuller longer. Eat some eggs. Sometimes I’ll boil a dozen eggs and take a couple to work with me to "snack’ on. It makes me feel good for a long time. Peanut butter is a good source of protein. I like to get a big spoonful of it and put a little on my apple just before I take a bite each time. Also, buy some cheese to snack on at work. That sticks with you for a long time.

There are a lot of easy filling things you can eat at wrok. Good luck!! And make sure and get the protein you need because it can lead to some serious health problems if you don’t.
