From an interview with Rick Warren (author, The Purpose Driven Life):

*I’m looking for a second reformation. The first reformation of the church 500 years ago was about beliefs. This one is going to be about behavior. The first one was about creeds. This one is going to be about deeds. It is not going to be about what does the church believe, but about what is the church doing.*He goes into his goals of helping the poor in the world, which is of course a worthy cause…but I found his use of the term “second reformation” peculiar.

Our Pope writes about this slide into orthopraxis (right action) when there is no criterion for determining orthodoxy (right belief)… i.e., no truth.

Gosh, let’s not forget that the Nazis were into ‘service’. It DOES matter why we are doing good deeds!

“The sin of service is the sin of Satan.”
–G. K. Chesterton

We must make sure that we are not serving for service’s sake; rather, our service must always point the way to Christ and acknowledge Him as its source.

Think of all the young people who do service projects to put on their resume.

In response to post # 2. There is a criterion for determining the truth. It is called the Magisterium. But, we do need to know what it teaches and put that into practice. Being a cafeteria Catholic does not cut it.

Jesus said that we have to feed the poor or else He would deny knowing us at the Judgement. What’s all this objection to good works about??? What the…

Just what we need, a second reformation, as if the first didn’t cause enough people to leave the Church.

I’d rather pray for a revitalization of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church founded by Christ on the rock of St. Peter.

If the 60 million or so Catholics in the United States were to truely live the Gospel, as revealed in Sacred Scripture and taught by Holy Mother, the Church, God would work untold good through us.

Just look at what a handful of people have done following the example of one humble nun in India. (Bl. Mother Teresa)
