You people assume that because I’m in high school I cannot have any intellectual knowledge…age discrimination much

~Peace~👍

I have no doubt that you might or might not “have intellectual
knowledge”. Just that what you have quoted as factual is not.
Could give you a great many sources to check, but it’s probably
best you do the digging so you’ll believe them.

I’m in high school… intellectual knowledge is possible at such an age. So’s ignorance- it happens on all sides, theistic or nontheistic. But you should at least try to have knowledge of what you’re talking about… if you don’t, it just goes to show how completely indoctrinated you are by conceit- be it your own or someone else’s.

The only way to know the truth is to look at things from both sides- and not just accuse one side due to your own biases.

I wasn’t stating a biased fact…

Where’d you get your fact? I see no source. What you wrote would be like if I claimed Twinkies contained arsenic just because I dislike Twinkies. How can you back up what you just said?

I have been raised a catholic but over time I have realized many things. The catholic church has been nothing but corrupt since day one(not quite literally).
Actually, yes - quite literally. The first thing that happened on “Day One” (the day that Jesus was crucified on the Cross for our sins) was that Judas (chief treasurer of the Church) betrayed Jesus for a few pieces of silver, and our first Pope denied knowing Him, three times. The rest of the Council of Cardinals high-tailed it to the four winds, leaving behind the world’s first CWL ladies to do whatever they could to comfort Jesus in His last moments.

The Church has always, always, always, right from the very first day, been operated by sinners and screw-ups. No doubt about it. So, if you see it being run by the same sort of people today, do not worry - you’re in the right place! 👍

I wasn’t stating a biased fact…
which part … you weren’t stating bias … or … you weren’t stating fact.

actually …
your comments are very biased.
What you stated is quite a distortion.

i’m glad to see that you don’t mind religion (even with the qualifiers).
We have something in common you (atheist) and I (Catholic).
Our positions are both based on faith.

well – what about cause & effect? In other words doesn’t every event or action have a preceding cause? Maybe you’ve already taken physics & have learned that for every action there is a reaction – and inversely every action has a preceding cause.

Now science thinks the universe began with a big explosion (the big bang). This means the universe is not infinite – it had a beginning (so much has pretty much been proven – I’m sure you’ve learned this stuff already).

Science also believes that if you reverse the big bang the universe collapses into essentially nothing. Some say it collapses into an infinitely small but unimaginably dense particle of matter (that would be invisible to the eye). However, when they crunch the numbers it doesn’t shake out exactly (if I remember right they wind up with these probability solutions that put the probability at more than 100% which of course means it must be wrong – like when they try to conflate relativity with quantum mechanics) . So for all intents and purposes we can say it pretty much collapses into nothing.

So from nothing came everything. If the physical laws of the universe demands that every event has a preceding cause – but yet we started from nothing – then what caused our universe?

We know it seems like nothing – but we also know it can’t be nothing (because everything requires causation). So would you say there’s absolutely no possibility there could be some sort of divine force, say a God, who created this universe?

To answer the original post, I left the Catholic religion because of the personal revelation I recieved through prayer. If the Bible has taught me anything, it has been to not place my trust in man but in God only. He loves us and is always willing to uphold His promise…Ask and ye shall recieve!!!

Ha ha fooled you…😛
But seriously, what i want to know is, why do people leave the Catholic religion.
Please explain your reasons why you left…
Thanks

Papal supremacy/infallibility. I just couldn’t reconcile those teachings with scripture or the faith of the Fathers. I feel a great weight has been lifted since relieving myself of the burden of Vatican I.

But what the Chaplain told us was: Don’t worry about having to kill the enemy… God is on our side. For some reason, that statement angered me deeply.
That is absolutely a very , very good reason !!

All right, I was Catholic for a couple of decades. I attended Loyola University and studied Hebrew under Fr. Pacwa (and attended a great many of his Sunday masses and charismatic Thursday evening masses).

I originally left the Catholic church over the baptism of my daughter (this was when I realized I did not believe in all of the teachings of the Catholic Church) and over politics–I am involved in local politics and could see from the hurly burly over John Kerry’s running that Catholicism was absolutely not a good religion to be a part of and also be a part of politics. It had no upside and a lot of downside. What if I should vote against the Church on a zoning issue? Could I be excommunicated? If so for abortion, why not so for zoning? So I left the Catholic Church.

I joined the Episcopalians, but did not like the idea of being in Communion with some of the fundamentalist elements within the faith. So I stayed only a year or two.

So I mentioned my unhappiness with my father and he recommended that I re-discover my Jewish roots (he is Jewish and reared me with that faith though due to the rules at the time, I was not Jewish due to my gentile mother). I did that and found a faith that I was finally, completely comfortable with. It had room for all my questions, doubts and convictions.

Probably the biggest argument I have against Catholicism (other than the biggies like the New Testament, Trinity, etc.) is the Communion of Saints. I simply do not accept the proposition that I have a requirement to admonish sinners or that others have a responsibility to get me to heaven. I find little room there for personal autonomy in religious faith, something I believe in strongly.

You can’t be serious. Zoning and abortion–there’s no comparison. The Church doesn’t have an official stand on zoning. Some issues are absolutely contrary to the faith, and abortion–the killing of an innocent human being-- is one of them. Would it be okay for a Catholic to vote for a racist segregationists? To me, voting for a racist or voting for a pro-abortion politician would be the same thing.

But, if you don’t believe in the Church, at least you’re honest about it and leave. What I can’t understand are all the cafeteria Catholics who hate the Church and hate what it teaches and stay in anyway.

**JsSmith17 - I really like your story - it is inspiring and sad and you have your work cut out for you now - evangelising!🙂 **

CAtholic answers and EWTN RADIO and Mr patrick madrid. Also Priest who hurt litle boys and the fact that The RCC covered it up .
That however is just the tip of the Iceberg. I will continue when I get a chance.
