I think to add to the list, when someone has an idea or belief different their own, wolves in sheeps clothing! WATCH OUT!!:nunchuk:
Thank God Jesus told his Church he would be with them until the end of time.I think to add to the list, when someone has an idea or belief different their own, wolves in sheeps clothing! WATCH OUT!!
Trent Anathema’s do not stand. You may want to look into this."Why I’m not Catholic" Well, just for starters (since I could write you a mile long scroll worth of reasons): on the one hand, the Catholic Church says to Protestants, “Aw, c’mon back into the fold, Stray Brethren.” (We’ll ignore for the moment the condescension implicit in the label.) On the other hand, Trent’s anathemas still stand, and Trent is infallible dogma, right? It can’t be rescinded, right? So, then, I’m asking myself, what gives with this institution: have they forgotten their old documents (if so, how do I know they won’t resurrect them, once I join)? Or are they less than ingenuous, or…maybe they’re counting on us dumb stray sheep not to notice the discrepancy/contradiction (not to mention the condescension)?
References, please? Everything I’ve read says Trent is INFALLIBLE dogma. If you can prove otherwise, have at it. I’m game.Trent Anathema’s do not stand. You may want to look into this.![]()
Really???Does anyone besides me think it’s a bit strange to say the least that a thread asking **NON-CATHOLICS **why they aren’t Catholic—that such a thread would contain mostly Catholic comments and proselytizing comments at that?![]()
Initially, when I read the topic title, I was intrigued, and hoping to really gain some insight into the question at hand. It’s hugely disappointing to find nothing but another litany of well-worn platitudes. Seriously, guys, open up another (millionth)proselytizing thread—or use the p.m.'s. It’s a real pain in the tush to have to wade through miles of totally off-topic posts to get to an occasional on-topic, INTERESTING one.
Sigh.
I hope you find what you seek, in response to you saying “you dont know if you can be Catholic yet” I wasnt sure if you were talking about in terms of process, or in terms of your beliefs. I see that you were baptised. If you went through your sacraments as well im fairly certain if you come to a stage where you decide to come back to the Church all you have to do is attend reconciliation.i’m not catholic because i dont know if i can be yet…but its the only gathering of christians that i would ever consider to join as a church body on this earth, and that said, i am not catholic but i cant be anything else unless i am just a Christian with no church and no fellowship. because i have gained knowledge that other christians who arent catholic dont agree with and try to preach things to me now adays that are meant to make me less inclined to be catholic, and so these other non catholic churches dont tell me so much about jesus anymore if they know our differences, and i want to know more about Jesus and the Saints and I will not deny what God let me know that they havent taken who arent catholic, now there is a way for them to see differences in our Love for Jesus so if i cant be catholic I cant worship with them either, cause when i try they dont acknoweldge my salvation anymore excpet for my family who loves me like Jesus, and has stopped the insanity since i gave it a rest so did they, they still hold on to me in Christ, but as for the non catholic christian churches, they are blinded by our differences that came to me by faith, and they dont focus on Jesus with me like they used to before this experience that helped me grow. I’m not catholic because i need to learn more to know if i can be joined with other followers of Christ after what has happened else where I am bieng more cautious, because this is the Only church that i know will continue to bring me Jesus and until i know more I wont take the chance, I’m not catholic because i may soon be, but I if i join it will be with an honest heart not just for a church, but for Jesus.
I said for you to do some research. Must I lead you to water if you are thirsty?References, please? Everything I’ve read says Trent is INFALLIBLE dogma. If you can prove otherwise, have at it. I’m game.![]()
Knox, Zwingli, Calvin, Luther were Catholic…The use of the word anathema has evolved during the history of the Church, and today it means the same thing as excommunication. (The word anathema is no longer officially used.) Because a person must be a Catholic to be anathema (excommunicated) the term does not apply to Protestants.
Really???
Might having something to do with posting on a Catholic forum based on a Catholic website, who will defend their faith.
You made the claims, so the onus was on you to provide references.I said for you to do some research. Must I lead you to water if you are thirsty?
Hey Roy5…
Why do I have so much trouble accepting the ‘faith of my fathers’? My paternal family tree was so Catholic that it produced an archbishop.
The main reason is that I treasure my freedom to think independently. I was reading a review of a new book - the title of it escapes me - in the America magazine published by the Jesuits and which arrived today. This new book explains the outflow from Catholicism in large part because more and more Catholics and ex-Catholics value the same freedom. They become educated, analyze religious teachings instead of simply accepting them, and come to the point of believing some and rejecting others. This results in part because of our culture, its religious diversity, its respect for individuality and diversity of opinion.
REP:LY By Joe
Independent thinking is a great thing. By the same token though, there are many non-Catholics today becoming more and more educated as well, by analyzing religious teachings and history, instead of simply accepting those teachings introduced to them by non-Catholic churches, and eventually coming to the point of believing that the CC is the church founded by Jesus. It happened to me.
Joe, THANKS for your support:thumbsup:Another reason is that Catholic doctrine and theology seems to focus so much attention on the distant past, as though the principal spiritual wisdom comes from the past. This is a half-truth

OKBUT, if I could be convinced that God existed, I’m pretty sure I’d become a Christian And if I became a Christian, I’d be a Catholic, because it seems to me the only faith that actually makes logical sense.
I certainly respect your reasons, even if I do not understand them, but I must say: As a former protestant all all I ever hear is: “Aw, c’mon back into the fold, Stray Brethren.” Get away from that big bad apostate catholic church. That kind of condescension is rampant in protestantism. A simple google search proves my point. The Papacy is ridiculed everywhere on line. I don’t see the CC doing that to any of the PC’s."Why I’m not Catholic" Well, just for starters (since I could write you a mile long scroll worth of reasons): on the one hand, the Catholic Church says to Protestants, “Aw, c’mon back into the fold, Stray Brethren.” (We’ll ignore for the moment the condescension implicit in the label.) Welcome to the Feast!!! May the Holy Trinity Guide you to the TruthI’m not a Catholic because the Easter Vigil hasn’t arrived yet![]()
I was once (agnostic in my case) - where you are right now and followed a similar path. I will absolutely pray that God helps you in your quest my friend!!!I’m not Catholic because I don’t believe in God.
BUT, if I could be convinced that God existed, I’m pretty sure I’d become a Christian And if I became a Christian, I’d be a Catholic, because it seems to me the only faith that actually makes logical sense.
And the truly sad part is:I am so with you. I do not understand how people can just link things together that are so irrational. By that logic someone could say:
“Protestants have a band in their church. The logical conclusion is they must worship bands!”
