Augustine’s introduction of original guilt which had a profound influence on Latin theology and which would be an inspiration for the Protestant heresy much later.

I know you asked for no questions about your conversion, but I have a very small, matter-of-fact one. If you still don’t feel like answering just ignore it:

Which of the Orthodox jurisdictions are you joining (assuming you’re in Orthodox mission territory like the US or Western Europe)?

How do you reconcile your claim of being the one true Church with the infighting that exists within a Orthodoxy? E.g. The lack of full part participation at the 2016 Pan-Orthodox Council?

What other heresies have the Roman Catholic Church taught pre schism?

Many Latin heresies arose such as the filioque for example, or the denial of God’s energies as another example.

What changed your beliefs about what the council of Nicaea and Constantinople confessed?

The early Christians , before 325 AD believed the Holy Spiritproceeds from the Father and the Son.

What is it about the filioque you disagree with

Not sure if your tone will win you many friends here. Are you claiming the Holy Spirit does not guide the Catholic Church? You seem to have a disgust for Catholicism which is strange, because as Catholics we certainly don’t view Orthodox in that way. We see the reality that there is much more that unites us than divides us and we await unification some day.

Kjw this is a discussion, not an attack. Thephilosopher is being very polite and charitable

I think you’re missing my point. The Coptic and Syriac Fathers of the day didn’t accept it. The Council resulted in a schism. Respectfully, your logic is circular. The council is orthodox because the Fathers accepted it, but only those Fathers who accepted the council are orthodox. See what I’m saying? From where I’m sitting, if the primacy of the Pope is rejected, both the Eastern (Byzantine) and Oriental Orthodox communions of Churches have equally strong claims to being the one true Orthodox Church.

It’s this person’s opinion who is converting to orthodox. It’s not an attack

Really? I have relatives who converted from Protestantism to Orthodoxy via OCA, and they were received via Chrismation only.

At the moment, I read thephilosopher as quoting doctrine, not what is in his or her heart

Calling the Pope a “usurper” is in fact an attack. It was totally inappropriate and uncalled for.

From my reading of St. John Chrysostom, he assigns a very special importance to St. Peter. On one occasion he calls him “leader of the apostolic choir”, once “prince of the apostles”, and goes as far to suggest that the promise Jesus made in Matthew 16 is for Peter and his successors. What do you make of this?

But she or he said, we don’t need a Pope to usurp. Not the Pope is a usurper

This person was accusing others of the usurping

  1. How do you understand Original Sin?
  2. What is your understanding of the Immaculate Conception?
I am doing the Epic Study on the Early Church, & we learned that the vast majority of heresies that had arisen within the first 5 centuries of the Church arose in the East - not the West.
