If it is correctly situated, the Filioque of the Latin tradition must not lead to subordination of the Holy Spirit in the Trinity. Even if the Catholic doctrine affirms that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son in the communication of their consubstantial communion, it nonetheless recognises the reality of the original relationship of the Holy Spirit as person with the Father, a relationship that the Greek Fathers express by the term ekporeusis .5
 
But more importantly, sence you were not born into the Orthodox Church, how else can you explain your reasoning ?
Well, I mean I guess I’d just encourage people to do their research, follow what the priest says, always be sure to know your Bible and study the Church Fathers and Councils. Proper catechesis is what is always needed. 🙂

Again, I point you to the article I posted and it’s excerpts to explain why we reject this Roman Catholic definition.
 
“The Catholic Church acknowledges the conciliar, ecumenical, normative, and irrevocable value, as expression of the one common faith of the Church and of all Christians, of the Symbol professed in Greek at Constantinople in 381 by the Second Ecumenical Council. No profession of faith peculiar to a particular liturgical tradition can contradict this expression of the faith taught by the undivided Church,”
 
Alright??? Your church might define this as simply “liturgical tradition”, but for us these doctrines are necessary for determining salvation and who is following in the footsteps of the apostles. Latin theology simply cannot be reconciled with Orthodox theology. Until your church recants, there will never be unity.

So you are saying one needs to be intelligent to follow the proper church, right?

No… That’s not what I am saying at all. Intelligence has nothing to do with this. Just follow what the Orthodox Church teaches and you should be good.

The proceeding of the Spirit from the Son is something the Son himself received from the Father. The procession of the Spirit is therefore ultimately rooted in the Father but goes through the Son.
 
why don’t you want to talk about your own conversion? that’s like the best part of an AMA. Would it even be considered an AMA if we can’t ask you anything?

Yes, but as St. Mark replies to your Latin definition which is still heretical:
To all the arguments of the Latins that when they teach that the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son, they do not teach two causes of the Holy Spirit but one, Saint Mark answered, and is it possible for one cause to come from two persons? Is this not a commingling of the hypostases? This is the dogma of Sabellios. 73 Saint Mark understood what the basis for the Filioque was and according to him it taught a confusion of the hypostatic modes of existence. in continuation he stated:

if then, the unique source of the super-essential Godhead is the Father, and in this He is distinguished from the Son and the Spirit, what was the objective of this radical distinction? The Son cannot partake of the source of the Father, nor can the Holy Spirit do so, for thus, there is a confusion concerning the divine persons, and the distinctions are abolished. For as he says, neither is it lawful that those things which are united be abolished, nor can those things which are distinguished (from one another) be confused. And for this reason, (the matter) of the source of the Godhead can in no way be attributed to the Son. 74

I think just because seeing that I’m coming from a Roman Catholic background, I’m worried this is going to turn into a heated personal argument. I do not want that.

The Catholic Church is just another name for the Orthodox Church, so yes. However, the Roman Catholic Church is not the Catholic Church.
 
Original sin is a Western Christian heterodox idea that ultimately derives itself from the teachings of St. Augustine. It is based off of rationalism rather than Orthodox doctrine.

For Orthodox Christians, Adam was created is a neutral state, neither mortal nor immortal. He was given the choice between salvation/eternal life symbolized by the Tree of Life, and death symbolized by the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. He chose death. Sin separates us from God and hinders our salvation. Death is not a punishment for sin per se, nor is there any stain or guilt of sin passed down the line from parent to children. Rather, we sin because of death. Death leads us to sin, not the other way around. We get so caught up with death that we ignore the commandments of God and indulge ourselves into worldly pleasures.

If Adam had not sinned, the Son would’ve incarnated anyway as his salvation would have not been fully complete. Salvation for Orthodox Christians is being united to God’s energies which is called Theosis which leads to eternal life.

The Catholic Church is just another name for the Orthodox Church, so yes. However, the Roman Catholic Church is not the Catholic Church.
You are deflecting. Either your paradigm of finding truth is good for all or it is flawed.
Just follow what the Orthodox Church teaches and you should be good.
If this is the correct paradigm for the unintelligent then the ones who are following the “Roman” Catholic church must be good, at least for the unlearned. Either that or you might want to rethink your paridigm.

I guess then Protestants must be good too. Same with Muslims and Jews and Hindus. Everybody is good. No need to evangelize! :roll_eyes:
