I'm Really Bothered By Something Someone Said

University opens doors to knowledge and experience. Part of the experience is being surrounded by others who believe differently than you do. Why are you trying to close doors? If your faith is solid you have nothing to fear. Tolerance is a good thing here. Try it.
What about their tolerance for me?

What is it with you people. Why do you assume I am the intolerant one because I am saying that I am feeling excluded. I love how you are trying to paint me as intolerant bcause I refuse to agre with points of view that I don’t agree with.

Are you in my classes? Are you there when professors tell me to shut up because they don’t agree with me? Are you there when classmates purpusefuly cut me out of things? Are you on my facebook page to see what happens when I post something of my own interest and for those on my friends page who agree with me and I get responses of “Don’t make me slap you.”?

Yes. I’m the intolerant one…because I stick to my convictions.

Although you all here are just illuminating my point excellently about the intolerance, accusations, and isolation that is created around me simply because I am different than most of my university. You do better at showing this point that I ever could describe. So, thanks I guess.

For those offering their support here: thank you. I realy appreciate it. This is a really hard time for me. It sucks having to sit back and keep your mouth shut when people are belittling your most cherished beliefs and you can’t speak up in defense and/or show you you really are without being labeled an “intolerant bigot.” (as many professors LOVE to do) And, as evidenced by some posters here, you can see what happens when one little insignificant catholic expresses their feelings, or admits the pain they feel at the exclusion they face from their classmates every day. The conversations you can’t be a part of, PRAYING that your group doesn’t make you do a project that is pro-choice or pro-war or pro-death penalty. Or hoping that you can just get through today without someone calling priests pedophiles. Really, it rocks. But I suppose I should just shut up…after all, feeling hurt be people belittling my faith is “bigoted” and “exclusive”

Ordinary, I’m not the least bent out of shape. And I have no desire to debate abortion on this thread. I just didn’t understand Whitacre G instructing ppl to find another thread to do it on when it was she who brought the issue up in the first place. But you’re right. I have never personally call the unborn a clump of cells. Peace man. 👍
Ok, then, CMatt25.

Let me put it this way, then…

Don’t be surprised that Whitacre_Girl uses the term “mass murder” when talking about abortion. She’s a Catholic. So am I. We call it as we see it. 👍

OrdinaryMelkite, nothing much surprises me anymore. But your point gets to the overall point. The folks OP is having difficulty with in regard to the emphasis they place on social justice for instance, might feel just as strongly in their views. Part of life is living together among differing views and beliefs. God bless and peace.

“His choice?” The Op is a woman, Pinay. The OP is Whitacre_Girl.
My apologies. I’m very bad with details…
And if you read my previous post, you will see that I stated the fact that simply because the CC does not “technically” promote any candidates does not mean it does not expect DEVOUT CATHOLICS to vote for candidates that adhere to what the Church believes is the Truth----and certain Truths of the Catholic Church are Non-Negotiable, BTW. Two of those things are Abortion and Gay marriage. The Church will not tell you who to vote for, but it will also make it clear that those who vote pro-choice and pro-gay marriage are not in good standing with the Church. Not being good Catholics, in other words. 👍
Not necessarily true. Rarely is there a candidate who supports only one issue. More than likely, they support one side of all issues, with abortion being only ONE of HUNDREDS of issues. For example, I cannot vote in good conscience for a pro-life candidate who thinks we should be under a dictatorship (case in point: Ferdinand Marcos and Fidel Castro). And yes, I am pro-life.

Therefore, I know for a FACT that although the Catholic Church (and the LDS Church for that matter) support pro-life, their membership voting for a candidate who is pro-choice does not automatically make them bad Catholics/LDS members.
As to the idea that we ECs and CCs are forcing our beliefs on people who disagree------I admit I’m puzzled by that statement. All we are doing is expressing our beliefs that disagree with Non-Catholic and Non-LDS viewpoints and maintaining what we firmly and sincerely (and confidently, I might add) believe to be the truth according to natural law, scripture, and tradition going back at least two thousands years. Stating that we think that our views are the truth and allowing others to state their “truth” and engaging in discussion and argument over that is NOT pushing anything on anybody. You basically want us to say-----“since we cannot prove it, you’ll believe what you want and I’ll believe what I want” is wishy-washy and denies the search for truth and how to find ut what the Ultimate Truth is through argument and discussion and legislation.
But that’s not what I’m expressing. I am MERELY stating that just because a person votes pro-choice does not make her a baby killer, a.k.a. mass murderer. The explanation of such sentiment can be found in my first post on this thread that you touched on (about not pushing a belief on someone else through the arm of the LAW but through missionary work). Legislating religious beliefs can be a bad idea… Sharia Law being one example.

Of course, every person has the onus to vote their conscience at the ballot box. For example, if I was allowed to vote (which I’m not - I’m not American), I would vote pro-life.

Make sense now?
