 Im slow Matt. You know this.šŸ˜› I dont get it. plz enlighten me what you mean. LOL! Peace šŸ˜‰
Benidict, I think you probably know what I mean. But for starters well spend some time on the political forums here for instance, and you’ll see plenty of isolation. Just a different version than what Whitacre was describing. CAF is afterall I find to be overall a rather conservative place both politically and religiously. šŸ™‚ And that’s the only elightenment I shall give. šŸ˜› Peace.

Benidict, I’m considered a round peg I gather by definition here and I draw comfort from that Beatles hit too! :bigyikes: And we round pegs love you all too! :grouphug:
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me. Speaking words of wisdom; ā€œLet it beee!ā€ If thats the case The Blessed Mother is interceding on your behalf, and you KNOW her presence. Its not so much the song your drawing comfort from my friend, it Who its about.:hug1: And we square pegs love you round ones too! LOL

Dont take it personal; its odd how people can hold certain views about groups of people but suspend them for individuals. The only problem is that is creates a bad vibe between you. You can never really be friends again untill you talk about it. If you are friends then this is something you should be able to do.

If it turns out to be not a misunderstanding then its time to move on. There are plenty of wonderfull people out there that would be wonderfull friends.

You are not a square peg and there are no round holes or square holes. You are unique. You and people just need to be open and you will fit in anywhere.

I hope this helps

I wish you well and hope God guides your actions and thought on the matter.

Love and peace

Just please pray for me that I can continue to love others. I admit it’s getting harder and harder not to turn bitter with the opposition I am coming up against. I feel sort of surrounded. heh.
You’re not alone! Also, it’s alright to be bitter sometimes, if your anger is directed toward wickedness itself. Keep thirsting and hungering for justice, sister, you shall have your fill. šŸ™‚

The title says it all. I was reading a friend’s Facebook page to catch up on his life and see if he and his wife could come down next weekend, and I came across this comment that his friend made:

I don’t know why this one in particular is bugging me so bad - I deal with a lot of anti-Catholicism and anti-christian bigotry at my University, but this comment really just set me off.

I think maybe I’m just stressed with finals, but I am also feeling a sense of despair. My friend knew that I am catholic, and he didn’t defend me or Catholics at all. I guess I am just feeling really isolated. I don’t belong in my University because I am a christian, and if I seek out Christians I am isolated because I am Catholic. There is a small group of catholics on campus, but they are…well, politically isolating me. Their focus is social justice (which is great) but they are always talking about how great pro-abortion candidates are because of other issues. I just don’t belong with them because I frankly don’t care how good someone’s economic or immigration policies are - if they support mass murder, I cannot support them. (And by the way, this goes for both sides of the aisle!)

I just feel like a square peg in a round hole, and this comment is causing me anguish as it is a reminder of how outcast I feel. I guess I am just looking for a little solidarity here. I just don’t understand why we can’t all just Love Jesus and love one another and help each other get to heaven instead of spewing hatred and bigotry.
get some pro life pamphlets and put them around the university…pin them to notice boards, put them in the library on the study tables…in the students recreational areas etc…some of these students may be pro abortion because thats all they’ve been exposed to, maybe noboby has taught them the horror of abortion…but by pamphletting your university you’ll get your message across.

Let me offer you a cyberhug, Whitacre. It hurts when our friends speak insensitively, and this is one reason why good friendships have a taboo against speaking religion and politics. When it comes to relationships, all may be friends, but when it comes to politics, all are fools and when it comes to religion, all are heathens.

There’s also an unfortunate blasĆ© attitude that many Catholics take towards our faith, and I think that’s the expectation among non-Catholics is that we really don’t attach anything to it other than an obligation to go through the motions. This even came up at a meeting this morning when one of my coworkers intoned ā€œOh, right, is tomorrow when people put dirt on their heads.ā€ It’s offensive except when it’s said in ignorace - now, when I was dating an evangelical girl in college and she actually * tried to rub off the ashes * that was a different story.
I think maybe I’m just stressed with finals, but I am also feeling a sense of despair. My friend knew that I am catholic, and he didn’t defend me or Catholics at all. I guess I am just feeling really isolated.
You’re not alone. I’ve been there as well. Nothing like feeling lonely amidst a crowd. Don’t despair, though, there are many of us who truly believe in the Gospel and see that Gospel lived out in the Catholic Church. In my college, the single-largest Christian group was non-denominational (which really meant evangelical with Baptist leanings) and they didn’t know whether to try to save me or avoid me. Among Catholics (or friends of any denomination), sometimes it’s best to know when not to talk politics - being on opposite sides of the aisle shouldn’t be a reason to moot friendship.
I guess I am just looking for a little solidarity here. I just don’t understand why we can’t all just Love Jesus and love one another and help each other get to heaven instead of spewing hatred and bigotry.
If we could do that, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to have died for us.

My friend: please read this carefully…

Matt.5: 11-13 "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. ā€œYou are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men.ā€

If this person is REALLY a friend? Then with extreme charity, when your alone with him/her, ask if he’d mind sharing his thoughts about the CC and our beleifs with you?

What is it about Catholics that you don’t like or agree with? Then give the REASONS WHY we do and believe what we do.

Before entering the discussion get his understanding of the Merit and authority of the Bible.

If he’s a part of a Bible believing church; proceed. If he does not beleive the bible; I’d simply pray for this person and let it pass.

Gos Bless, Pat

PM me if you need additional assistance.

Thank you for the piece of scripture.

I want to clarify that the person who said this wasn’t my friend, but rather a friend of my friend. As lizaanne said, I need to make sure I know that my friend may have dealt with him privately…it just still bugs me is all.

The title says it all. I was reading a friend’s Facebook page to catch up on his life and see if he and his wife could come down next weekend, and I came across this comment that his friend made:
My friends are divided fairly evenly between evangelicals, atheists, and devout pagans with a smattering of Catholics, Mormons, and standard people who don’t really know or care.
I didn’t see many, if any, non-Catholic responses, so here’s mine. I am so sorry that this is the experience you are having at college. It would be trite to say you’re at the wrong college (is there a good Catholic school near you), because finances, majors, etc. often dictate the school one attends.

So, lacking any solutions, I’ll pray for your peace of mind. And encourage you to allow the Spirit to comfort you, and keep you strong in your faith

I’m probably the only one but I found that funny Jon. 😃 Thanks man for the laugh. Now I’m going to finally have a fish sandwich and salad. I will say this bag of chips though are REALLY tempting me and it’s a long night yet!

Hi Matt,
I just like to respond when, as the OP quoted, a n-C makes such ridiculous remarks.

As for you, I forgot that you had changed your profile. :o Sorry.

Terrible the things that people can say, is it not?

You have probably heard this before, but offer your pain and suffering up to the Lord Jesus. His love for you cannot be overstated, and his mother’s love for you cannot be overrated…

ā€œMay the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and rule your mind in Christ Jesusā€

Thanks šŸ™‚ but well this is what happened. I went 23 hours without a morsel of food from 9 pm Tues nite to 8 pm Wed nite. The only liquid I had during that time was water and an 8 oz cup of cranberry juice. So at 8 pm tonight I had a fish sandwich, a small salad, and sigh yes the bag of chips. I knew I should not have gone so long without eating. I did fight off the temptation a few hrs before and turned down an invitation to go out for a gyro until TH.

Whitacre_Girl, think of the insults they heaped on Jesus. ā€œIf they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they malign those of his household?ā€ Matthew 10:25.

Thanks Mekite.

It’s never too late for a kind word! haha

Especially now - I’m stuck at home on finals week with a flu and a sinus AND ear infection. Life just all around sucks right now!! šŸ‘

Ear infection----Yikes!!!
I had one of those when I was kid----NOT funny, for sure.

I would recommend you pray to Sts. Cornelius and Quirinius, both Roman martyrs who are invoked against earaches.
For fevers, there are various saints invoked, like Albert of Trapani, Aldegund, and Peter. Some are more recent, as well. šŸ‘

Us Orthodox in Communion with Rome tend to go for the Early saints rather than the Later saints, but some of these would be good for you, an RC. šŸ‘

Give them a try. Sorry about everything.

Hope you get better soon. Blessings in everything.šŸ‘
