First of all I’m a 22 year old kurd from syria a country that has been going through a civil war for almost a decade now
Throughout this war i have been going through a new phase in my life where i started to feel that islam (with all due respect) has done me nothing but harm
I have been reading about christianity and Catholicism specifically and i have found peace of mind within it
I have been praying to god every day and night
I want to be devout believer but first i have to repent for my mortal sins
I can’t however go to a Christian priest for confession for i was born a muslim and if anyone knew that I’m secretly catholic i most likely will get killed
Can i repent without the confessing to a priest considering my dangerous position
Or shall i risk it all for absolution ?

You are in my prayers. I will tag two people who might be able to answer your question adequately for your circumstances.

@InThePew

@edward_george1

Baptism of desire will apply to your case. God knows the heart, keep the faith and pray. Remember, Syria and the whole Middle East was Christian for 6 centuries before Islam misled the people.

God bless and keep you. The parish where i go here in the US, one of the priests works with Muslims who are secretly converting to Catholicism. They must keep it secret as well. To see such faith shown is amazing to me and an inspiration. I wish I could offer more.

You do not have to place yourself in mortal danger for baptism. As @Dan_Defender said you would have baptism of desire. If you were killed out of hatred for your desire for the faith that would be a “baptism of blood.”

Why do you feel that Islam has done nothing but harm? Do you feel that continuing to live in a Muslim dominated culture is continuing to harm you?

God bless you.

Growing up in an Islamic society and seeing how Muslim treats non muslim with hate has proven that it’s not a religion of peace as people pretend to
They are harming by forcing me to be one of them as if my blind worship to their false god would lead me to heaven
Thank you for your words and advice @Neithan

I thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and prayers
God bless you all

I have read the qur’an and yes it says no compulsion in religion
However the punishment for apostasy in Islamic society is death.

Not sure how to help but praying for you. I do think God would take into consideration your circumstances being under Islamic law and how it’s very similar to how. Communists persecuted christians in Russia, China and North Korea. I can try looking into underground churches, be vigilant during this time. Praying for you

@poche no i have not been baptized yet unfortunately
If I’m to be branded an apostate i wil be immediately killed.

Thank you very much everyone
I’m really grateful for your prayers
You will also be in my prayers :pray:t2:

Bless you sir! Seek refuge in God and confess to God. That is all you can do. God loves you like a son. I dont think he would want you to be in danger. Many of the first Christians had to hide themselves from the Romans authorities and Jews who hunted them. Do the best you can to stay safe while we all pray for you.

May ask you how came to Catholicism? What convinced you to leave Islam?

@Duke12VonFalkenburg i have seen how muslims treat each other and how they treat other religions
They are full of hatred
So i decided to start reading the bible and when i did i had felt peace once again
I saw that the words of god are true
And i decided to worship in secret fearing prosecution.

If you have not been baptized then you cannot go to confession. You should make an act of perfect contrition. An act of perfect contrition is where you tell God that you are sorry for your sins because He (God) is all good and you are sincerely sorry for having offended Him. You should also have the intention to enter into a program of initiation into Christianity as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
God is all loving and all wise. He knows who is sorry for their sins and what effort has been made. I recommend that you try to live this special holiness that God is calling you to live and God will give you His own blessing.

Here are some prayers that I hope will help. One is the Act of Contrition and the other is the prayer for Spiritual Communion.

I can’t imagine your situation or the hunger you have for Christ right now but I think that if no other good comes of this virus and the restrictions to our Mass attendance and reception of the sacraments, at least we will have a greater sympathy and appreciation for those, like you OP, who have little or no access. Jesus knows of your desire and your situation. Trust Him.

You are in my prayers.

It is good to pray. Also, I think that it would be OK if you try to confess to god instead of a priest given your circumstances. Ask god to help you on your journey. And may god bless you!
