I'm sick of the rabid Islamophobia on these boards...

In trying to accuse others of creating straw man arguments you inadvertently created one yourself with this doozie of a straw man:

I suggest the thought that Islam is not responsible for every single bad event in history.

That is one HUGE straw man, buddy.
It was actually hyperbole. Could be easily mistaken though, sorry about that.

That’s Saudi Arabia not Islam. To make a foolish statement like that you would have to ignore the freedom of religion that exists in Syria, Iran, Lebanon, The United Arab Emirates, Indonesia…and the VAST majority of Islamic countries
Freedom of religion - so the Muslims there can freely apostatize and convert to Catholicism?

Maybe in Indonesia and Lebanon but I’m not sure about the other countries.

Then perhaps you should hold your tongue until you are sure.

I was speaking rhetorically. In contrast to you I don’t make blanket statements without the supporting evidence. You made the statement so the onus is upon you, not me, to prove.

It’s the principle of Actori Incumbit Probatio.

You’re tyring to justify prejudice, which is intrinsically evil no matter what.

Stop sowing seeds of hatred and paranoia, you are doing no good.
Just because we hate a religion doesn’t mean that we’re prejudice. We may have a perfect and valid reason to hate a religion.

I’m not sowing seeds of hatred and paranoia; I’m challenging you.
Here’s an interesting thought, what do you think the average American thinks about President Truman or the crew of the Enola Gay?
Actually, in the context of this thread, I don’t think that’s an interesting thought at all. Actually, it’s a rather boring thought.

A certain someone is here making things up as he or she goes along. It would be risible if lives were not at risk.

There is no freedom of religion in any Islamic country: see the Saint Barnabas Fund website for the figures on persecution of Christians and Jews (wherever permitted) in the Middle East and elsewhere.

This is a fortiori the case if by freedom of religion we mean what is meant by the U. S. Constitution.

Islamophobia is a cant term pure and simple.

Keep your eyes wide open for the nature and doings of a religion the West, especially the U. S. A., has next to no experience of: Islam offered and continues to offer us little, while a sad and violent part of it threatens what it has not already destroyed.

OBJECTION!!

I cxan too prove my statements about this board’s prejudice against Muslims.

TAKE THAT!!

That’s right, this very topic we are debating in is itself evidence. 90% of the people in this topic are screaming that Muslims are generally violent people and that Islam is the greatest threat to civilization as we know it. Anyone who isn’t a fool controlled by his emotions can see a clear bias.

And if you’re wondering what the exclamations were for,

You are being funny…right…:ehh:

Actually it’s very relevant. This thread deals with generalisations about Islam; primarily that Islam as a whole supports the targeting of civilians in terrorist attacks. An American who supports the strategic bombing of Japanese and German cities cannot possibly condemn a Muslim, or Islam as a whole, for the having the same disregard for human life.

Wow…now we have gotten in absurdity.😃

GM,
please calm down. I did not make myself clear as I was directing my last post to Proletariat, not you.

Be that as it may, you wrote:

Who said Muslims are generally violent people? I didn’t. I do say that they all without exception support, condone and teach the hateful and violent anti-kafir teachings of their prophet.

Without exception - for by denying their prophet’s hatred for disbelievers they would cease to be Muslims.

Once you think about it, The nuclear bombings on Japan probably took more innocent lives than Islamic terrorists. With just two bombs!

The idea that Muslims are generally violent people has been heavily implied. Hateful and violent teachings? Go ask a Muslim if he hates and wishes pain upon anyone who is not Muslim. Guess what the answer will be.

Don’t be emotional. We are not screaming that Muslims are generally violent. This is about Islam, and not particularly muslims. We are screaming that you need a lesson in Islam.

I urge every Westerner to read and study the life of Muhammad.

It’s a real eye-opener. Since Muhammad is the Final True Prophet of Allah and the prime example of Islamic spirituality, his life serves as a model for devout Muslims everywhere.

Muslims have followed his example through the ages and used the sword to spread their “faith”.

I use “faith” in quotations because Islam is as much a political system as it is religion. They are indivisible in Islam.

Yes, Christianity dabbled in State/Religious alliances for centuries with disastrous results, but Christianity is entirely a Faith, and not a political system…hasn’t been for many years. And the Christian alliances were formed apart from any instruction from Christ or scriptures, unlike Islam, where political rule is in full compliance with Muhammad’s life and teaching.

Radical Islam is a worldwide threat and the true scandal is that the so-called moderate Muslims don’t/won’t/can’t speak up and correct the Islamo-fascists that control the minds of so many of their people.

In what? All I have been saying throughout the topic is that Muslims are not necesarily violent hateful people, a message I have felt has been propagated throughout this board. I never said Islam was perfect. I never said there are serious problems in the middle east. Look over my first post carefully.

Not every Moslem is violent and it is certainly absurd to imply otherwise.

However, anyone that is not aware of the brute violence used in trying to convert people or keep people from converting, not to mention the suicide bombing, destruction, violence to supress independent thought and women… is niave. The Pope (Benedict) was absolutely correct and the moderate Muslims need to bring these other forces under control.

Radical elements in Islam seek to get their way through intimidation and violence. Women stoned to death in Saudi Arabia for riding in cars with a man they are not married to, women murdered by Taliban in Afghanistan for all sorts of minor offenses (while vendors sell snacks in the stadium), banned from practicing medicene, etc. Beheadings, behandings, murder for beliefs, etc. Radical Islam is ignorant, brutal and anti civilization. It is horrible and comes across as muder incorporated. Again, Benedict XVI is correct. Moderate Muslims need to band together and suppress this so that they can get their message out there.

Yes Christianity has done some not so nice things but this is 2007 and not 1597. Who would want to live under the hellish world created by radical Islam in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

I agree and you make some good points. Good post. And to the OP,of course there are people in every religion who are or have been unjustly violent.
Saudi Arabia portrayed in the media to be one of the most democratic and free of all Islamic governments treats women as almost animals and have no regard for human rights. Are we supposed to take a blind eye on this forum to such injustices?

Radical islam is indeed dangerous. but what the heck does that have to do with this thread?

Proletarian, I think you too, along with Generic Man, need a lesson in Islam.
