Why is Jesus is portrayed differently in each of the 4 Gospels?

The Four Gospels work together to provide a complete testimony of Jesus Christ, His public ministry and public Revelation, The Bible is intended to be understood as a whole.

The simple answer is, because each gospel each has their own distinct manner of presentation: they each have their own unique themes and characteristics. All in all, you have four ‘Jesuses’, all intriguing and distinct yet overlapping, each presenting the subject matter in their own way but at the same time providing an insight into the one Jesus.

So yes, you could look at the four gospels as one, and at the same time consider each gospel on their own merit. That’s the beauty of having four of them. 😃

In what way do you see him portrayed differently? I don’t see that myself.

I know that the four gospel writers were addressing their writing for a specific purpose.
For example, one writer was presenting his gospel to the Jews and in doing so used more references to the old testament and to the Jewish religous customs and prophets. While another was addressing the Gentiles who knew nothing or very little about the Old Testiment.
And so on.

But as far a protraying Jesus himself, to me he is the same in all the gospels.

Just a thought.

We human beings are so limited that one author could not possible capture everything the God wanted to reveal to us about Him. Each adds a different perspective. Like the facets of a diamond, each perspective reveals something new. As John says, the whole world would not be big enough to contain the books if everything where to be written about Him.
