Thank you De Maria for your description of mystery & myth. It was pretty much what I thought also.

Now let us look at Islam, is it a myth or a mystery that Mohammed saw an angel?

It would appear to be a myth based on fiction since no evidence exists to support the idea.
very good point De Maria.

Hi.
See, what I dont agree with is the imitation part. All of us are unique that’s god’s word right so the idea of imitatin Jesus or Mohhamed would just confuse us more than we are. I do agree with the fact that we are suppose to take their best sides and apply them to our life but imitating? I think we pushin the issue a little too far. That is where extremism comes from.lol. I am very convinced that if anybody concentrated on the positive sides of Mohhamed or Jesus we all would be on a better place, although my understanding is that muslims do not put Jesus down as catholics put Mohhamed down. And please before putting any thought down read some more about whomever you are going to talk about. Not weise to talk about something and think ur an expert just because u heard it on the radio or u heard someone else talk about it.lol. And Water no one is going to lead you to Jesus or god none but urself.God Bless you all.

Circumcision
Muslims follow the way of Jesus (pbuh) and have their male children circumcised at an early age.
if you think that Jesus came to teach the Law, without changing anything, without establishing a New Covenant, without bringing Jews and gentiles to God REGARDLESS of Jewish rituals to non-Jews, then why don’t you circumcize the males at the 8 day as per the Law? why are you breaking it? you either take it all, or nothing…picking and choosing is exactly what Jesus criticizes.
Jesus did not eat pork.
He did not eat camel as well as per the Law. Why do you eat camels?
according to Quran, it was only with Muhammad that alcohol was prohibited because, before this “revelation”, Muhammad and his companions used to drink, and it took the author of Quran 4 ayas to prohibit it…if it were prohibited before, then why it took 4 ayas, in which mentioning the benefits of alcohol, before finally prohibiting it?

Moses taught that it is DESPICABLE in the eyes of the Lord if a married woman returns to her first husband if she married another man. Muhammad gave the exact opposite. Who broke the Law?

Picking and choosing is not what the Bible teaches…either you live by the entire Law, and hence be judged according to the entire Law, or you depend on God, not yourself, which is Jesus’ New Covenant. Picking and choosing proves, yet again, that Muhammad was not sent from God, nor was he confirming previous prophets.

If being Christian means to follow the ways of Jesus (pbuh), then Muslims are undoubtedly the best Christians in the world.

:twocents: I guess there may be some truth in that for some muslims; I mean, the “way of Jesus” - I think - is redemptive suffering. All that other non-sense in your link regarding alcohol, pork, circumcision, etc is just wasteful reading.

I’m really looking for forward to Lent and going through the Stations of the Cross; The hymns are so beautiful and the whole service and reflection is just so prayerful.

Islam is a strictly monotheistic religion. It believes in and adheres to uncompromising monotheism. It believes that God is one, and unique in His attributes.

In the Qur’an, God often refers to Himself using the word ‘We’. But this does not mean that Islam believes in the existence of more than one God.

In the English language, the Queen of England refers to herself as ‘We’ instead of ‘I’. This is known as the ‘royal plural’ and it is meant as a sign of respect.

Similarly in Arabic, when Allah refers to Himself in the Qur’an, He often uses the Arabic word ‘Nahnu’ meaning ‘We’. It does not indicate plural of number but plural of respect.

And BTW, there are 99 names belonging to Allah and which refers to His many attributes… but all of these names are describing just one God.

Whether someone should imitate Mohammed depends on the person and to what extent. Muslims would obviously want to imitate Mohammed in every way, as they revere him as the greatest prophet and the only perfect human being.

Personally, I think there are better people out there to imitate than a man who inspired hate and bloodshed in his own lifetime and continue to do so through the religion he founded and the holy book he wrote.
Muslims do not believe Muhammad is the only perfect person. All prophets are seen as living sinless lives, including Isa al-Masih (Jesus) and Miriam (Mary). Some do not consider him the greatest, but he is one of the greatest along with Isa and Musa (Moses).

Jesus was placed in Mary’s womb by the word of God. “He said ‘Be,’ and he was.” “He breathed His Spirit into him (Jesus).” He was made in the same way as Adam, hence he is the Second Adam. That is what Muslims believe…

Prayers and petitions,
Alexius:cool:

the queen of England lived after Muhammad.

Muhammad is simply repeating the We used by God in scriptures, which is not a human invention, but how God introduced Himself since the beginning…the royal We did not exist at the times scriptures were being revealed.

Hi,
I read some of the replyes here… and I got to tell you guys, both you InJesus and Hamba2ha have extreme visions of religion. I think in the 21st century the science does not allow us to have an extreme view on the religion. The newest science discoveries on every field of life should be an eye opener for all of you who take the Holy Books by word and not give them a more general view. How can u take the books by word when the books say that they are universal books and will be a guide for the humanity for as long as human exist? Do you mean to tell me that the world was created in 6 days? I hope not… because if you are I feel very sorry 4 u. Given the fact that the human brain has evolved in a way that we simply have to give the books a more general view if we still wanna believe in them… Why not just simply try to understand and respect everybody’s faith and see if we can adapt the best from every religion? If god is watching you think he would say it is wrong to adapt the best views of Judaism Catholicism and Islam? Ok i will throw Budaism and Hinduism in there also, although I tend to belive in a Monotheistic religion.Anyone can answer my questions asked above though? It would help me understand your point of view. By the way the only intelligent answer at the post about Mohhamed was the one from Alexius.

Hello Dorand. Are you sure about me? what gave you this impression? out of curiorsity 🙂

I would not compromise on enything accept imitating Jesus…These are your words yes? And the other thing is the way you talk about Mohammed… not a lot of info about him but a lot of anger.Lol. Being religious I understand means forgiving and representing God on the best possible way. I got to remind you that 1.8 Billion Ppl on the world believe on Mohhamed. If I had ur nick wich I repect a lot btw I would be more considerative of other ppl. Lol. Right?

ah i see your point…but you see, even Jesus got angry at false teachings and wicked men 😉 of course not to compare myself to Jesus, but you got the point… i rarely criticize muhammad, my threads, are usually theological, you will find no thread by me about the person of Muhammad…but you are still new here 🙂 welcome 🙂

Thank you. Glad I joined the site. Just trying to understand different poits of views. It is nice to disagree on some points on this ride of life. You Sir are a man of reason and a teacher. I respect and admire your views. The burden of understanding has fallen upon men such as yourself to try and build a bridge between civilizations instead of further deepening the gap that is already there. It is not the matter of being right and wrong. I cannot believe that more than the half of the world living today is going to hell ,as I believe that god is most forgiving and mercyfull. But as I said just expressing my views and trying to make sense of all of this.Lol. Thank you again.

I think InJesus have been very rational and resourceful here. 🙂

As for Hamba, well, he can be wacky at times, but I admire his patience and perseverance. 🙂

Both are nice people to be with here in the forum!

In Christianity we obviously try to immitae Christ. However, immitate is not quite the right word. We don’t want to immitate Coca Cola but want it to be just as good.

I think it is very safe to say that “immitating” Christ is the best we could ever hope for in all that we do.

Should we try to immitate Mohhamed or is this something that should be avoided? (This has nothing to do with the Koran nor its circle reasoning and thus should really only concern Mohhamed himself)
Are you serious? Why would anyone want to imitate an illiterate murdering paedephile?
