I need some (name removed by moderator)ut in making an informed decision. I would like to send my now 8th grade son to a new Catholic high school next fall. However, in my diocese, they require the children to have all vaccines unless there is a medical exemption. They will not allow you to claim a religious exemption even though some of the vaccines are made with abortive fetal tissue. I am aware that the church says you can go either way on this, just need to let your conscience guide you. Here is where the trouble lies. I really am opposed to these vaccines because of the evil way they were obtained. However, homeschooling my son any longer is not an option. I really don’t think public school is the place for him either, plus the new Catholic school is very orthodox. I am having trouble discerning which issue is more important. I have written the bishop and the superintendent trying to get this changed. Several years ago some people tried to have it changed and the bishop refused. It is sad when you have to fight your own church against something like this. If I send him to the public school I could claim a religious exemption but not in the Catholic school.

I imagine by the eighth grade he would be beyond the autism question…(but I am not a doctor etc) but at least for others out there especially… there is new questions in this direction …

soundchoice.org/education.html read the news letters etc…

She is by no means a fly by night researcher…read soundchoice.org/leadership.html

(she was also on EWTN on about something else)

Note the first two links are PRIOR to the new research…so bear that in mind.

But one must make a moral judgment with an informed conscience (perhaps contact the National Bioethics Center and talk with an ethicist)

I’d find a Catholic doctor and get a medical exemption. I’d also take my concerns to the Bishop and he didn’t relent, I’d take it to the Archbishop.

It’s immoral to immunize children with medicine developed from fetal cells. Particularly when the medicine is possibly connected to DNA mutations.

It WAS taken to our Archbishop who said no. I will look into finding a Catholic doctor but they are hard to find and then agree to give a medical exemption.

BTW, it is NOT immoral to use these vaccines. The church has stated that we must do what our conscience tells us to and either way we shouldn’t be forced.

I think you would absolutely have to prove to the Bishop that there was not a vaccine available that was free from any abortive tissues. You yourself state that “…some of the vaccines are…”, which means some are not.
I am willing to assume that the Bishop is aware that there are vaccines available that are free from the abortive tissues, and I am sure his primary concern is the safety of the children in the schools that close proximity spreads disease quickly.
I would suggest you go to your doctor and get assurance from him that you can acquire a “clean” vaccine, and failing that public schools.
Until you actually proved that 100% of all vaccines contained abortive tissues, you would not get a hearing at a higher level.

Is this true? Are there really vaccines for children made with tissue from aborted babies? Actually in use now? Does anyone have any direct knowledge or documentation of this?

yes…read the links above

I think it’s important to remember that not all aborted fetuses are from voluntary abortions. Miscarriages can also be classified as abortion - involuntary abortion. From what I understand it’s not completely clear if this material is derived from a voluntarily aborted fetus or a miscarriage/involuntary abortion.

I just want an exemption from the 4 made with abortive fetal tissue. There are no “clean” alternatives for these 4 here in the US and some not even in the world. The dumbest one is the chicken pox vaccine which is only for convinience not for health.

We have refused to have our six month old vaccinated. Our six year old was, sadly, before we knew how horrible the vaccines are. Can you provide documentation from the Holy See which allows the use of these vaccines?

We homeschool our children BTW.

Another good resource is www.cogforlife.org

This tells all about how they are made and which ones contain abortive fetal tissue. (It is not in all vaccines)

Chicken px is a required vaccine now? I thought it is harmless, as in you will get better and there is no danger, as long as you get it as a child. I can understand getting the vaccine if you are not a child anymore because of the dangers involved but why take your chances on a vaccine for a relatively harmless illness.

But I do think other vaccines are a good thing.

I am a Catholic, devout and knowledgeable about my faith, and I am a pediatric nurse practitioner. I strongly encourage vaccinating your children.

And there is no moral objection to vaccinating your children with vaccines that may have been derived from aborted fetuses 30-40 years ago.
Originally posted by Fr. Tad Pacholczyk…some parents have gone so far as to suggest that their children should be exempt from the requirement as a matter of conscience. The Pontifical Academy of Life document reaches a different conclusion, namely, that even when a vaccine is made from aborted material, and when no other form of that vaccine exists, parents may indeed vaccinate their children. In fact, in many instances, parents should feel a strong obligation to do so, considering the gravity and severity of the diseases involved. source
He goes on further to state:
  1. Parents may vaccinate their children because vaccinations are critical to preventing very serious, life-threatening diseases, and to safeguarding large segments of the population from cataclysmic disease outbreaks and epidemics.
Rev. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D. earned his doctorate in neuroscience from Yale and did post-doctoral work at Harvard. He is a priest of the diocese of Fall River, MA, and serves as the Director of Education at The National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia. ibid

Dignitas Personae (from section 34)

“Of course, within this general picture there exist differing degrees of responsibility.
Grave reasons may be morally proportionate to justify the use of such “biological material”.
Thus, for example, danger to the health of children could permit parents to use a vaccine which
was developed using cell lines of illicit origin, while keeping in mind that everyone has the
duty to make known their disagreement and to ask that their healthcare system make other
types of vaccines available.”

Yes, it is in my state. 2 doses.

Chicken pox is usually harmless–a nuisance but harmless.

I suppose it’s like using bug spray. Why not just let your kids be bitten by mosquitoes–the bites are harmless and essentially just a nuisance. However, sometimes you can get quite ill from mosquitoes. And we have the “technology” to prevent these annoying creatures from biting our kids, why not use it?

(Some may say they don’t like the chemical exposure from bug spray and will not use it on their little ones…so perhaps it’s not a good example.)

A better example, perhaps, would be wearing a helmet. Most kids get bumped on the head and it’s just a minor thing. So why make your kids wear a helmet when they’re probably not going to get harmed from a little pesky bump on the head?

Why? Because we want to do everything we can to protect our babies!

Well unfortunately, being bit by mosquitos does not create an immunity from mosquitos like chicken pox does for chicken pox.

Regarding the idea of separating vaccines and coming back to get one or two vaccines at a time (DTaP today; MMR in 1 week; IPV in another week. etc etc etc)…

While I understand parents say they’ll endure the inconvenience in order to provide a safer administration of vaccines to their babies, what they don’t realize is that each time they’re coming back for a separate vaccine they are actually putting their children into more danger. Each time they make an extra trip in an automobile to visit the pediatrician, they’re putting their child at risk.

It’s much, much riskier to drive in a car with a baby than to give them 5 immunizations at the same time.

After all, we ALL know someone who has been in a car accident–or, even, God forbid, been killed in one.

However, I daresay none of us knows anyone who’s died from receiving 5 vaccines in one day.

Each and every day our bodies are assaulted with thousands (perhaps millions) of microorganisms which our immune system must fight against. 5 or 10 more antigens won’t “overload” our immune system.

Just my informed :twocents:

The comparison is not between what generates an immune response.

The analogy is this:

-bug spray prevents mosquito bites which are essentially harmless (but, on rare occasions, be very serious)

-ch. pox vaccine prevents (mostly) ch. pox which is essentially harmless (but, on rare occasions, be very serious)

SO…
If you put bug spray on your kids, why don’t you give them the ch. pox vaccine?

Please tell me the Catholic moral statute of limitations on the sin of murder? Less than 30 years?

Of course, they were using these vaccines as soon as they were made, before the statute of limitations (whatever that may be) ran out, so those of us who unknowingly allowed our children to be vaccinated with the fruits of this grave sin were unwittingly complicit. In addition to the horror of using aborted babies to protect our current babies, this whole issue indicates that the medical community has no problem with using aborted babies in medicine WITHOUT TELLING US. Apparently this has been going on for some time, and I did not know. My children are grown up now, but 3 adult members of my family have received the rabies vaccine in the past two years, and apparently that is one that uses the euphemistically called “fetal tissue”.

Did you read the links she provided?
