This is brown bag happy face theology!Paper bags are of the world, are a symbol of nothing in particular, and rot quickly… rather, like the the father in the Prodigal Son, we the Church will gladly take their wayward son back. We’d fatten a calf and celebrate with the reunion.:harp::flowers:![]()

There is a problem here. I can accept diveristy in forms of worship (there are around 2 dozen distinct Catholic rites), but I cannot, and will not accept diversity in theology and morality. That is NOT what God intended.God knows His sheep and creates everlasting unity in Christ. His Sheep go way beyond being a member of a Protestant or Catholic churches. God makes sinners His sheep by grace alone through faith in His Son. It is not our particular church membership in a tradition in which we are sheep belonging to God. It is because of our Lord Jesus Christ that we are sheep.
Not to mention, it begs the question why he believes being a Protestant is better if God doesn’t care what our faith traditions are…There is a problem here. What poof do you have that God was the originator of the Protestant churches?. I can give you ample proof that the Lutherans were started by Martin Luther, the calvanist by John Calvin, . In fact every Protestant denomination traces its roots back to one human founder. How can you counter?Quote:

Why were 6 books removed from the Holy Bible, and why were they considered not important? Was the Catholic cannon defined by a Council after the Reformation?
What was the reason for the protest? Some of the practices of the 16th Century Catholic Church needed reform. If it was created by one person, than why is it not united? It is united from God’s perspective.
How many protests are yet to come into existance?
Do all protestant churches follow different bibilical readings ie read whatever you must but it should be from the bible, or like catholics, all churches reading the same readings of the day?
Do Protestant churches give importance to Eucheristic celebration?
Do they have any Saints? Yes,
How do they celebrate Lent?
My answers are in red text above.
No, I am not saying that at all.Quote:

I am pointing out to you that their is not a single thing a Protestant does for their salvation that a Catholic doesnt’ also do.
But that was only the first question. The second question is the issue. There are many, many things a Catholic does for salvation that a Protestant doesn’t do, starting with the life giving Sacraments. And you have separated yourselves from that and hence, from salvation.
So that’s why its essential to be a Catholic.
How can you be sure that you speak for God on this issue? Or better yet, why do you think your theology is the correct one in all areas of theology? God is an Infinite God in which His ways are not our ways? In addition, we are finite creatures still influneced by our remaining fallen nature in all of us (including our church leaders). We all know in part, including me and you. There is a problem here. Historic Protestant theology is better… IMO because it is closer to the truth in regards to why we are able to approach God as Christians. Not to mention, it begs the question why he believes being a Protestant is better if God doesn’t care what our faith traditions are…
I don’t see any paper bags in there! Where in the bible do they mention paper bags? Is this a new man made tradition you’re starting? This is brown bag happy face theology!
John 17
The High Priestly Prayer
17:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. [1] 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them [2] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, [3] that they also may be sanctified [4] in truth.
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
All of our postings should be qualified as IMO as Christians. We are both finite creatures who know our Infinite God in part and imperfectly. There has been only One man who was perfect in all ways, the God Man Christ Jesus. What poof do you have that God was the originator of the Protestant churches?. I can give you ample proof that the Lutherans were started by Martin Luther, the calvanist by John Calvin, . In fact every Protestant denomination traces its roots back to one human founder. How can you counter?
And how can you claim that the Protestant churches are united from God’s perspective? Who gave you the right to speak for God?
I can say that Protestantism is in error because its foundational doctrines were invented by a single person in the sixteenth century, and is inconsistent with the Apostolic teachings of the earliest Christians. How can you be sure that you speak for God on this issue? Or better yet, why do you think your theology is the correct one in all areas of theology? God is an Infinite God in which His ways are not our ways? As sinners saved by grace alone by the merit of Christ alone, we are united in Him as adopted children of God. Our views as Catholics or Protestants are just views and theological distincitves and positions, trying to know and understand our Triune God better. Being Catholic or Protestant is not the ultimate reason we know God or are known by God as His redeemed ones. No, I am not saying that at all.
In the original OP, it was said that it was better to be a Protestant.

We all claim to follow apostolic teaching as recorded in Scripture.I can say that Protestantism is in error because its foundational doctrines were invented by a single person in the sixteenth century, and is inconsistent with the Apostolic teachings of the earliest Christians.
IMO…it’s better to be Protestant, but tell me why it’s better to be Catholic. But remember, Catholics and Protestants are one in Christ for those who actually are known by God through Christ. Please try to keep your responses grounded in official Catholic teaching. I’ll start:
- It’s better to be Protestant because historic Protestant theology rest in the finished work of Christ for our eternal standing before God, We are justified by the person and work of Jesus Christ who earned our complete forgiveness and reconciliation for us, We are saved from God to God, and for God on the basis of the work of Jesus Christ. Therefore, historic Protestant theology teaches that we have eternal peace with God because of the merit of Jesus Christ.
Of course Protestants and no one else would know of Jesus Christ and of scripture without the Church.
- It is better to be Protestant because historic Protestant theology tends to focus on the person and work of Jesus Christ rather than the church… IMO.
Except for the Primacy of Peter, Apostolic Succession, the Sacraments, the Real Presence in the Eucharist, Marian Veneration, the necessity of works, and all the other things recorded on the Scriptures you choose to ignoreWe all claim to follow apostolic teaching as recorded in Scripture.![]()
