Maybe the fruit inspection theme started 500 years ago by a Catholic monk? Peace brother, and rejoice in the Lord always! Why did I know you were going to mention the mote in the eye thing?
Let’s put all the context together.
So let’s put the “Judge Not Lest You Be Judged” thing in there to begin with. That would be Mat 7:1 That’s gotta be proof right there that we should just let everyone do what they want to do because the judger might get judged by that same judgement or worse.
Now we move on to the verse 3 : (the one you proudly preach) About removing the twig from my brother’s eye but not considering the mote/beam in thy own eye
Sounds like He’s talking about a hypocritical judgement doesn’t it? So let’s go to the next verses.
Or how wilt thou say to they brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
Sounds to me He’s saying that it’s ok to judge but first you have to examine yourself or you’d be a hypocrite.
The Lord isn’t prohibiting honest judgement or discernment because he wouldn’t continue on by saying
**“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”? **
How are we supposed to beware of false prophets if we’re not to judge them? And the very next thing He says is:
“Ye shall know them by their fruits"
I don’t care whether this is a protestant thing or not, you’re the one who brought the fruit inspector term. I have no problem inspecting fruit as I believe that in order to honestly judge fruit, we gotta inspect it first.
