Thank you. He’s still workin’. 😃 Can’t keep a good saint down.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I know that is right!🙂

This is truly amazing. I had seen pictures and heard of this before…but I never knew just how many were incorruptible. Are there any other recommended books on this subject?

I don’t know I had the incorruptables and lent it to someone and never got it back:o If it planted some seeds that is okay, however I do miss the book:o King Henry the 8th destroyed over 100 of the incorruptables when he was in rebellion with the Pope:mad: I pray for his soul but it still irritates me that he would do that.

Thanks everyone for the response; now I know the term.
So it’s not just the Orthodox who have the incorruptables.

Does anyone know of the body of Cardinal Shuster (1880–1954), a former archbishop of Milan, which was discovered to be incorrupt after 31 years in the grave. The body was exhumed in 1985 and found to be incorrupt. The cardinal however “was anything but a saint; he was a friend of Mussolini and supported fascism and Italy’s war with Abyssinia.”

I also read this “There are, however, several incorrupt bodies of Buddhist monks which are preserved as objects of veneration.”

And last…why are some of the bodies of the incorruptibles tampered with so much? I read of St. Bernadette, that her face and hands have been covered with a mask of wax. Why?

Any commments? Thanks.

Wow. Can you provide any links? About the Cardinal: they talk bad about the Pope from WWII. Fiction. I don’t know about this Cardinal but I’d like to see some evidence before I accept what they say.

Any links about the monks? This is the first I’ve heard about it.

St Bernadette: sorry. I’ve heard about that but I don’t know. I don’t think that would stop the decay.

I was Protestant and I had never heard of this before I met a good Catholic friend. This was one of several factors that encouraged me to become Catholic.

Actually, it lit a fire under me.
I find that fascinating, Susan, because as a convert, the whole “incorruptible thing” well, freaked me out at first. Just months after my baptism into the Church, I went on a pilgrimage with a group of contemplative monks through Europe; we saw the incorrupt bodies of St. John Vianney in Ars, and St. Catherine Laboure in Rue de Bac, Paris (site of the apparition of the Miraculous Medal). Their bodies are displayed in glass casing and they look like the might just sit up at a moment’s notice. Amazing experience.

J.W.B.:
Wow! I have never heard of this before. Well maybe somewhat, but not like this? What in the world to Protestants and atheists say to this? Are these Saints really perfectly purserved?
St Bernadette was exhumed some 30 years after her death and the only thing wrong with the body was it had mold on it. After she was cleaned her skin was still soft and pliable. So yes she is perfectly preserved. Some are not so well preserved… The body of Cardinal Newman looks mummified. Testing showed he is not infact mummified and though his flesh is very dry, it is in fact, uncorrupted. Pope John XXIII was thought to by preserved also but as it turns out he is mummified and is such through natural processes.

The gist is that though the water in these bodies may evaporate, mold may collect on them etc etc etc, the normal and natural chemical processes that take place when dead flesh rots is infact NOT taking place in these cases. Sometimes other extraordinary thing take place. Water mixed with blood ?leaked? out of the body of St Sharbel for decades. And His Body GLOWED with a bright light. The day he was beatified his body inexplicably disintegrated. Another interesting piece of info about Sharbel. He was photographed with a group of Pilgrims at his chapel/tomb FIFTY YEARS after he died.

As to what Protestants say…""“Its of the Devil”"

As to what atheists say…“There must be a scientific explaination”

Blessed Frederick Janssoone of Canada who died in 1916 is another incorruptible:

“Janssoone’s body, which had not been embalmed, was twice found to be “incorrupt” or not decomposed: after his coffin was opened in 1948 and again four decades later. That is one of the signs that a person has lived a virtuous life, according to Catholic belief.”

We may have a local miracle here (in Pittsburgh) that will lead to his sainthood. Here is an article:

Do the Protestants ever give a reason why they think it is from the Devil? Could it be because they don’t want it to give credence to the Catholics?

Personally, I was raised Methodist and I never even heard of such a thing before.

If someone tried to say that to me I would remind them of a certain group in scripture that accused Jesus of working by the power of the devil:whistle:

I have seen several Protestant posters respond to miracles in these forums with “How are you sure these are not works of the devil?” It doesn’t make sense to me that the devil would perform tricks that enhance the glory of God!

Blessed Father Seelos died while ministering to the sick during a Yellow Fever epidemic in New Orleans in the 1870s. He was buried at St. Mary’s in New Orleans and his body is incorruptible.

As far as proving anything about Catholicism, this is what one site says:

“Nor does the phenomenon of incorrupt bodies necessarily prove the claims of Catholicism. When the famous yogi Paramahansa Yogananda died in California, in 1952, his unembalmed body had not decayed and was said to emit a beautiful fragrance. Perhaps there are many incorrupt bodies of holy Protestants, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists, but we’ll never know because these religions don’t have the unusual custom of digging up their suspected saints.”

I’ve read that site and I didn’t say that the incorruptible bodies proved anything about Catholicism. I said that Protestants have asked how we don’t know the devil wasn’t at work with these miracles and my response was that I don’t believe the devil would be involved in anything that gives glory to God. We obviously are amazed at God’s power when we see incorruptibles - hardly the reaction the devil would work for!

By the way, we have no way of knowing what happened after death to these people who were highly spiritual on earth but not Catholic. I believe it could be possible for spiritual people of non-Christian faiths to acknowledge Christ as the Son of God when their souls come before Him and for that to be acceptable if they have lived Christ-like lives on earth but were not Christian out of ignorance.

I have been told by many anti-catholics that all Catholic Miracles are Satanic in origin because “The devil can perform signs and wonders too”.

Yes, and if the miracle is proven to be there to debunk the Catholic Church’s infallible teachings, then that is how “I” would know they are not of Christ. 😃

Oh and i have also read that after they exumed Blessed Francisco’s body (Fatima) perhaps 15 years later and it was incorrupted. Anyone else hear of this?
