ANY technology can be used for nefarious purposes and abused.

As to your last sentence, what do you mean?
About a cashless society, being identified by marks on the hand or forehead, etc. There are lots of other interesting tidbits in Revelations, and Daniel and elsewhere… Couldn’t tell you for sure if we interpret them correctly or not, thoguh I’m more inclined to agree with some of them.

The interesting thing about what John saw is that suppose he really was seeing the things he saw (well we agree that he did, but hypothetically speaking…😛 ) how would he describe the future? In a day when the concept of machines and technology as we know didn’t exist how would John convey this?

For example, take these passages from Revelation:

And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

It could be exactly like John describes, terrible monsters, but some figure that the closest thing to what John was trying to convey would be that of the modern military helicopter. They emerge from the smoke of the battlefield, armoured aircraft carrying men within them, pilots and troops, their rotors certainly sound like chariots of horses, and their bullets and missiles are the ‘stingers’ inf act, we even call them stinger missiles. Of course it’s all speculation, but I’m just throwing it out there as food for thought, Revelation does indeed contain poetical imagery.

I understand your stance on technology. The chips are remarkable and do have many uses, they’re even working on making the blind see, and maybe we could make lame people in cyborgs if the cure’s aren’t panning out 😃 , the big sci-fi, techy geek that I am…

Of course everything can be abused, but I think the big reason why people are afraid about this chip in particular, as were those possibly about credit cards etc, is that subconsciously we don’t want to live in the tribulation period before Christ’s Second Coming as much as we want to see Him come in glory. So by rejecting it it is a conscious effort to attempt to delay that time as all these things are indicative of bringing those days closer as prophecy tells us, not that growing technology itself is evil, though there are things that it would be better to do without i.e. more powerful Weapons of mass destruction.

As well the chip does create privacy issues that were never available before, they can be trackable, and there are issues with it’s internal effects on the body, people have complained about it suddenly going places under the skin it’s not supposed to, problems that would be fixed eventually I suppose.

Brittan Elementary School in Sutter, California already mandates students wear RFID tracking tags. Link

While there’s nothing to keep a kid from strapping his or her tag onto a dog and sending the now wired canine upon its merry way, the Big Brother aspect of this is disquieting.

As law abiding citizens, no arm of government has any right to know where I or any of my family members are at any given time whatsoever.

FYI - if you have a company provided wireless phone your whereabouts, at least during business hours, are, in all probability, being tracked.

Have you bought a new car in the last five years? There’s a very knowledable ‘black box’ in the car now that is of great interest to both the police and insurance companies. The data in that black box can be uploaded without your knowledge and your whereabouts and driving habits can be reviewed without your permission. Welcome to the future.

Also we can’t at this time really know how anti-Christ will be involving itself with the chips. Revelation probably doesn’t mean all the chips (if it means chips at all), but really the ones that contain the mark of the anti-Christ, his brand, his info…

But not getting the chip would be prudential, after all, why help him along? 😃

Maybe we’ll be forced to take the chips, or co-erced, for example you don’t have to have a drivers licence, but try going places without one where they constantly ask for some form of legitimate identification.

Or maybe it’ll be openly marketted by some consumer group, and they might blatently call it ‘Mark of the Beast’ (Couldn’t you imagine the commercials? ) “Get your mark of the beast and impress your friends kids” they’d say, or maybe one dressed up guy in a devil outfit, or some CG character interaction. You turn out the lights and 666 glows in the dark or under some UV light like in ‘A Beautiful Mind.’

But seriously… I wouldn’t want that thing, for all we know it’ll become law to implant them into all new borns. And if we do live in a chipped society, try and not update from any shady source… piracy software just may cost you 😉

I was also thinking maybe we oughta get our own Vatican brand of chips, manufactured from blessed silver from a melted cross with the holographic image of our Holy Mother, the Keys of Peter microscopically emblazoned on it with a 777 type firewall and level 999 encryption. 😃

Maybe in the shape of an ichthus?

But the mark will be something that would even be familiar to someone of Jesus’ time.

Anyone who uses a cell phone can be tracked, whether you’re talking, have it turned on, or have it turned off but with the battery inside it. That technology has been available for years.

Come on Lisa, you’re a very level headed person. No one should be jumping to conclusions. You’ve got to remember that when SSN’s came out 60 years ago, peoples thought that was completely outrageous to have a no. assigned to you, just like we think it would be outrageous to have a chip embedded in you. We shouldn’t judge the technology until it is ready to market and ALL the facts are out.

The only chips going in my body are the kind made from sliced potatoes!

It’s one thing to have a device implanted that will help you, such as pacemaker, and quite another to have a device implanted only for the convenience of the government keeping track of your personal data.

My thinking about all this is that one day chips will replace driver’s license, medical records, plus give you the ability if you choose too to keep your personal records (financial, etc.) within a chip versus what we do now. These ideas of using telepathy and opening garage doors I think are just tech geeks brainstorming ideas that will probably not see the light of day.

I don’t know, but somehow I’m thankful that I will unlikely still be alive when that day comes.

Do you know how the abortion pill was tested? In a poor country under the guise of vitamins:mad: Our government sponsered it.I am level headed, but when I get a certain alarm go off in my soul I listen;) Don’t do it wabrams,it is already being done in Chinas military:( Don’t do it!Pray about it.Promise me wabrams:eek:

I am somewhat divided on the issue. The fundamentalists I know are screaming** ‘MARK OF THE BEAST! RUNNNN!!!’** so I tend to think it must be OK…anything they dislike (like the Church!) must be good!

Seriously, I don’t think its that big a deal. You can always smash the darn thing. I’m not afraid to remove mine if I have to…theyr’re sub-dermal implants…it’ll hurt like heck and leave a bruise, but you should be able to crush it by pinching the area its in very hard. I really want a national ID system, and national drivers license. They would help things tremendously. Implanted means no ‘sorry officer, its in my other pants!’ type lame excuses. Fewer fake ID’s, fewer criminals sneaking past police. I really don’t mind if they ping the chip for my ID…I haven’t done anything wrong. If things get out of hand…I’ll just smash mine and go underground. I’m not worried.

I agree. Some people are seriously blowing this out of proportion.

I’m not taking any chances. There is no way they are getting those things near my family. If they want to give me a little card to carry in my wallet with all that information, fine. But no way it’s going in my body. They could put time release viruses in these things, elecric shock pulses, etc. etc. The possibilities are endless. They can keep their wonderful technology. I will join the Amish first!
