How will the new translation be implemented? Will it be all at once, or over a period? Will we, the laity receive training on our new responses?

The plan right now is that it will be implemented in Nov. 2010 (ie the start of Church year 2011).

Yes, it will be “all at once.” One thing the Holy See has been clear about is that the new translation is not to be implemented in pieces.

The “final approval” from the Holy See is expected for early 2010, which would put things on track for publishing and final implementation in parishes for Fall '10.

As for the “how” of the preparation, that’s going to vary by parish and diocese. The USCCB has already made some resources available.

You’ve probably seen this already, but for the benefit of other readers, here’s a link to the USCCB site on this:

As Fr. David has said, November 2010. Our Archdiocese ( Seattle) has scheduled priest training for September 2010.

Our diocese in Detroit is right now studying how to best impliment the changes. IMHO they’re going to go sly with many of the clergy and lay people like a lead balloon. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how strict the Archbishop will be on the timetable for implimentation once it is determined.

Your archbishop is very astute liturgically. In fact he was up for chairmanship of the BCDW but lost the vote. I am sure he will keep with the timetable for implementation once it is decided by the bishops conference.

Hopefully he is as astute financially as well. Our last Archbishop, methinks, got some very bad financial advice.

A very good friend of mine is on the Clergy Committee in the archdiocese. Archbishop Vigernon has indicated that he is interested in keeping to the timetable. He is very much in favor of the new translation.

None better than this
If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount.
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High
"
Luke 6:33-35

I would expect dioceses will have catechesis sessions for lay people, or else provide training for priests so that they can catechize their own parishes.

It is expected that lay people will be receiving “training” on the new responses.

Luke 6:33-35
Matt 25:14-30 😃

Let me qualify that (yes, it’s tongue in cheek) by saying that personally, I believe most Archbishops and the clergy that works for them in administration are…um…charitably speaking…less able to make good financial decisions on their own than would financial advisors that had some background in Church management. In our former Archbishop administration, he either got some lousy financial advice (which is what I believe to be the case) or made some lousy financial decisions on his own…and those were not decisions on whom to lend money.

In any case, such is quite off topic. I have confidence that Archbishop AV will bring some new blood, so to speak, into a financially challenged AOD.

Either way

Our new bishop come Feb. 2 (Bp. Daniel Flores) is your former auxiliary bishop. I’m guessing he might look to Detroit for a model of how to implement it.

FYI, you are getting a great bishop. We will miss him dearly.
