We live in a very rural area and have a priest who is difficult to understand. The people understand him when he recites the parts of the Mass everybody knows by heart. But, he fails in his homilies when he tries to make reasoned points. It takes more than a few years to become professionally fluent in a new language. The old Irish priest spoke a brogue but at least they started with something akin to English.
