There is nothing wrong with glorifying God with songs and dancing and even a shout or two. It seems like this fine priest is doing everything specified in the rubrics – nothing suggests the contrary. The notion that every mass must be quiet and non-demonstrative to be reverent and God-honoring is just plain wrong. Pope John Paul II loved his public masses with teens acting exuberantly with singing, dancing and so on.

I think that it is dead wrong to equate authentic Catholicism with a certain quiet, nondemonstrative style. True worship takes many forms.

Yes, that is correct. I would like to see this priest banish. Getting people to attend Mass by the thousands for a concert show is not tolerable. If you like to know how you should conduct yourself during the Mass then please compare the old covenant with the new covenant. It is the same event and never was it or is it meant for entertainment or a social get together. It is for the very elect themselves (old covenant-Jews, new covenant-Christians). The mention in the old covenant about rejoicing with singing and dancing never occur during the sacrifices(new covenant-Jesus–hint: Eucharist), or the entrance of the Holy of Holies(new covenant- this is actually what occurs during Mass). There is a time and place for everything and Mass is a time of quietness not exuberance.
This priest should be sent to the Pentecostals, Holiness, Church of God, or any number of the protestants churches where he can conduct services with his entertainment.

Come on, the whole description of the Mass reads like a stage show, complete with pop music, “guests” on stage (what is the Brazilian soccer player doing on the altar, exactly?) and, it seems, interviews (?).

Tell you what. Here’s a link to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal online: usccb.org/liturgy/current/revmissalisromanien.shtml. This is, of course, the rubrics for Masses in the United States, and not Brazil, but I assume those in effect for Brazil are at the very least similar - besides, I can’t read Portugese. 😛

Please let me know where in the GIRM you find the congregation sending up "a chant of “Hey, Hey, Hey, Jesus is King!” during the Mass, and the place where it states the congregation should now offer “raucous applause” (why would we want anything “raucous” at Mass?). Again, these things are fine at a community prayer or worship service, and I would love to attend one (I’m sure they’re quite exciting and uplifting). But just not appropriate at the Church’s public worship of the Mass.

In the very first chapter of the GIRM we find this: “Nevertheless, the priest must remember that he is the servant of the Sacred Liturgy and that he himself is not permitted, on his own initiative, to add, to remove, or to change anything in the celebration of Mass.” (follow link above, emphasis added) If Father Rossi is not bound such considerations, or if you feel he is truly acting as a servant of the Sacred Liturgy, please let us know on what grounds.

This mass does not sound that way at all. Theses are joyous people in worship to the Lord.

You see. You have removed philosophy. Everything Jesus said, to this day Doctors of the Church and philosophers are still learning new meanings between the lines.

Jesus called out the Pharisees because they were being hypocrites. He told a direct example about a certain person worshipping God in public and making a spectacle revealing that the person has received no reward during prayer. The mass the priest says, that is a circus, is valid but the blessings are none.

The mass is a union between heaven are earth. The word union is the state of being united. Adding your own spectacle, a public show or display especially on a large scale, is your version of worshipping God. Your ways are not his ways. it would suite you to attend a Bono concert. Not the Holy Mass.

Private adoration is silence. Jumping as a wild animal in front of the Holy Trinity is grotesquely humiliating.

I am picking up what the Church is putting on the table. You are not.
 
I don’t know whether to be happy about this or saddened by this. I am inclined to be saddened since his Mass sounds more like a concert than a Mass. At least that’s what some here have said. And I take their word for it too.
