Yeah, the only LA/SF rivalry I’m aware of is the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, and Dodgers fans definitely seem to be into it. That rivalry began in 1890 when they were both New York teams, I think it’s cool that it’s still lasted this long. 🙂

And we are definitely not “Frisco”! The surest way to show you’re not from SF is to drop that abominable nickname in a conversation. 😃

I don’t know about that… I just know that its editors hail from the The Boston Globe and The National Catholic Reporter, and that it is a start-up project of the The Boston Globe. Two publications that are known to be critical of orthodox or “conservative” (not my label) agendas.
 
I think this may be a case where definition of terms would reconcile the two. Our culture is a part of who we are. We do not need a war between differing cultures, in the way it has been traditionally defined. However, going back to men like Francis Schaffer and St. John Paul, we find that the term culture is used to describe a growing acceptance of violence and death that is grounded in a secular world view. These two bishops are no more at odds than Pope Francis and St. John Paul. They are dealing with two different issues, where the word “culture” is used differently. This is my take on the article.

So, yes, they strike a different chord. They are in different places after all. No, the should not be seen as being at odds with each other.
