I once heard that when we sing hymns praising God, they are heard twice as much as prayer and so touch Our Lords heart.

I believe that Saint Augustine said he who sings prays twice.

I can tell you that singing is a very physical experience. The breathing, the use of the vocal cords, the expression, all of this becomes a total giving to God if you do it right. What I mean by that is that the soul must be in a disposition to praise God. As I have told other cantors, it’s not about you, it’s about God. Period. We are not up there to look good, receive praise, etc. We sacrifice our natural human pride to humbly offer our praise and prayer to God in song.

Let Everything Praise the Lord

Psalm 150 Praise the Lord!

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens![a]
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
