I believe that Saint Augustine said he who sings prays twice.
I can tell you that singing is a very physical experience. The breathing, the use of the vocal cords, the expression, all of this becomes a total giving to God if you do it right. What I mean by that is that the soul must be in a disposition to praise God. As I have told other cantors, it’s not about you, it’s about God. Period. We are not up there to look good, receive praise, etc. We sacrifice our natural human pride to humbly offer our praise and prayer to God in song.
