The Ignatius Bible (from Ignatius Press) comes in two versions. The original is the RSV-Catholic Edition. The other is the Second Edition of same. The Second Edition modernizes some archaic language, but neither bible uses inclusive language.I am a protestant looking for a Catholic Bible. Amazon.com has paperback versions- cheap! In D-R, RSV and NAB. My question is WHAT IS ARE ST. JOSEPH AND ST. IGNATIUS BIBLES??? THEY COME IN ALL VERSIONS.
THANKS.
St. Joseph bibles are ordinary NABs. I believe they often contain additional study helps or illustrations. The 1970 NAB does not use inclusive language. Those after 1985 (revised New Testament) do. Editions after 1991 contain the revised Psalms, which contain so much inclusive language, the Vatican required new translations to be made for use in the Mass lectionary. “St. Joseph” here is sort of like a brand name. The name, as used on bibles and missals, is owned by The Catholic Book Publishing Company. They have been around a long time so you will see “St. Joseph” attached to some older Confraternity bibles on Ebay.
