In North Carolina, gay man fired for marrying partner

It just seems strange for a Catholic parish to hire a non-Catholic or even a non-practicing Catholic for such a nearly liturgical duty. Would a Catholic parish hire a cohabiting couple to teach marriage prep or pre-school? I hope not, but maybe they would.

They do. In fact, a family friend living in Oregon, were shocked to learn when one of their children came home from the parish school and told them their teacher didn’t go to mass with them because she isn’t a “cannibal”. Really.

Their meeting with the principal went nowhere (something about “It’s hard to find good teachers”), the priest was hands-off (“I don’t make administrative decisions”), and their letter to the Bishop was essentially ignored (they got a form letter response).

It happens.

Oregon. That might explain it.

😃

Yes, I am kidding. But, many folks have been known to be a wee bit liberal out that way. Just a tad.

😃

Those are but a few of the reasons why I am praying for the folks at that Church. Obviously, scandalous behavior was occurring all along since everyone “knew,” but I suppose the “marriage” made it so blatant, that it could no longer be ignored by the Church.
Maybe they convinced themselves in the lame “they must be chaste and living like brothers” excuse.

There was a similar incident in my parish on the West Coast. Two lesbians were attending Mass together every Sunday. Everything was hunky-dory until, true to form, they wanted to be Eucharistic ministers. The pastor explained to them that it would be conveying a message of approval to the congregation, and therefore one that would be mixed and confusing.
Seems to me that this pastor explained it most charitably. Glad they were weekly Mass attendees, and hope that they were SSA rather than practicing homosexuals (which the pastor would have known if he was their confessor.)

Possibly. That could fly, I suppose, since we are not to speculate on possible sins of others. However, when the two decided to “marry,” that made their sin public and scandalous and no longer speculation anymore, so it could no longer be ignored.
