In surprise, Pope marries Chilean couple aboard papal flight

Of course, I would point out that this is a convalidation, and that the couple had been planning to marry in the Church before their Church got destroyed in an earthquake. So it’s not a normal situation to begin with. And convalidations are often far simpler affairs even in a regular parish.
Very true. My friends approached our pastor after Mass one Sunday morning and said, “About getting married…” He said, “When?” They replied, “Now?” and within 20 minutes they were married.

He knew they had done preparation several years before when, ignoring all the warnings about not doing anything to prepare a couple for marriage when one of the parties has petitioned for a decree of nullity, their pastor at the time had prepared them and set a date. When the decree from the Tribunal of Second Instance didn’t arrive in time they had opted to marry before a judge.
