Sorry, but everybody else has to work. When the Mama is dependent on welfare in order to keep a roof over their head, food in their mouth and access to medical care, seems to me it is abuse, neglect and a mortal sin?
Thank you, I’m so glad someone else gets my lame sense of humor!Manos, the, uh, hands of fate.
I wish we Catholics didn’t have to resort to this kind of scaremongering.
Not quite accurate. The Church does teach that we must not knowingly cooperate (either “formally” or “materially cooperate”) with evil.I don’t see the Vatican saying that Catholics have to discriminate against gays in their businesses.
paranoia run amokobviously this lawsuit is bullying and it may resolve itself in some way that won’t get reported in the press. but getting from that incident to a unquestionably unconstitutional government office that supervises church services in progress is scaremongering and not helpful.
I understand that imaginary persecution (as from the OP’s article) is a tried and true way of rallying the troops, but … really.
yes perhaps, or let couples who are living together, or of a different faith, to go somewhere else.they could also get out of the flower business.
fortunately some of those who offered incense repented and became saints and/or martyrsAt the end of the day, you could argue that offering incense to the god’s of Rome wasn’t technically sinful, either. That said, we know which 3rd and 4th century christians are recognized as Saints and Martyrs by the Church and it wasn’t the christians who were offering the incense.
No faithful Catholic should even be trying to push the envelope and tempting God in this way. If you require this degree of proof, then that is a sign of a serious lack of faith and I will pray for you.
And how is discriminating against gay customers cooperating with evil? What does that do to help gay people turn to holiness? Not quite accurate. The Church does teach that we must not knowingly cooperate (either “formally” or “materially cooperate”) with evil.
Making money directly off their wedding, when there are others who would provide them that service, is material cooperation. And how is discriminating against gay customers cooperating with evil? What does that do to help gay people turn to holiness?
Vermont was right to spank this business…
It is homosexual activity that is evil, not the ceremony. In most cases the homosexual activity was going on before the ceremony and would continue whether there was a ceremony or not. Providing flowers for the ceremony does not cooperate with the essential evil act. And it has been pointed out by MidnightSun12 that providing paper plates for the celebration is not material cooperation.Making money directly off their wedding, when there are others who would provide them that service, is material cooperation.
the state will prosecute if they don’t sell to any customers. that’s the problem. going somewhere else makes a lot of sense, and their defense counsel will, I hope, make the argument that gays aren’t being barred from buying flowers elsewhere so their wedding can have as many flowers as wanted. I expect some kind of compromise along those line will happen anyway.yes perhaps, or let couples who are living together, or of a different faith, to go somewhere else.![]()
Of course, if you are a photographer asked to phtotgraph a gay wedding, the question becomes unavoidable.the state will prosecute if they don’t sell to any customers. that’s the problem. going somewhere else makes a lot of sense, and their defense counsel will, I hope, make the argument that gays aren’t being barred from buying flowers elsewhere so their wedding can have as many flowers as wanted. personally, though, I don’t want retail merchants asking me why I want to buy something. surely no one wants clerks asking a couple buying flatware if they’re married or living together. if I were asked that question, I’d be polite only the first time telling him or her its none of his or her business.

I would also do the same…the state will prosecute if they don’t sell to any customers. that’s the problem. going somewhere else makes a lot of sense, and their defense counsel will, I hope, make the argument that gays aren’t being barred from buying flowers elsewhere so their wedding can have as many flowers as wanted. contracts for personal services are given more consideration when they conflict with personal beliefs. many attorneys, for example, won’t take certain kinds of criminal cases, and that’s not unlawful discrimination. photographers? closer to lawyers in this example than florists.Of course, if you are a photographer asked to phtotgraph a gay wedding, the question becomes unavoidable.
Selling a hotel room to a couple who presents themselves as a couple is materially cooperating with evil.It is homosexual activity that is evil, not the ceremony. Good Afternoon EdwardSelling a hotel room to a couple who presents themselves as a couple is materially cooperating with evil.
Mr and Mr jones-smith, and they come in holding hands.Good Afternoon Edward
Might I ask you how a couple presents themselves as a couple to a hotel clerk, short of registering as Mr and Mrs or whatever? How does that work unless you ask someone if they are planning on having sex in the room?
OK, and? Many people today hyphenate their last names when they marry, how do you know whether or not their married, unless you presume to ask?Mr and Mr jones-smith, and they come in holding hands.
