Reading your post reminded me of something that bothered me recently. Not āinclusive languageā exactly, but changing things for no reason.
A priest at my parish has decided to use this phrase during the preparation of the Eucharist: ***āHe broke the bread, gave it to his friends and saidā¦ā ***
I brought this up with a guy I work with, a traditional Catholic and he gave me more or less the answer you did above.
I guess now, I have to figure out what to say or do to make them get back to what is right?
Please forgive me, but I seem to feel that all of this is just āsplitting hairsā, as the saying goes.
Whether you say āfriendsā or āApostlesā, (?) Werenāt the Apostles Jesusās friends also, and are we not āmeantā to āspreadā the word as the Apostles did. Does this not mean that we arenāt Jesusās friends also. He did say that who be with us, cannot be against
us.
And the part of āGodās people or His peopleā If we are Godās people are we not His people also?
This just seems so trivial to be making such a āoffenseā out of. Please if you have a REAL problem, letās talk of that.
What if we say, āAll Godās childrenā or (as todayās) people might say, āAll Godās kidsā, are we not saying the same thing?
Do I have to say āAll Godās childrenā to say āitā right. This really seems to me that we are saying that the laity are so dumb that they couldnāt possibly (Know) what the sentence (Means) if it were not said the EXACT way.
Well, we DO NOT talk EXACTLY the way Christ and HIS apostles, (friends) talked.
Thou hast said it wrong, and thee knows this.
Please lets give people the benefit of the doubt. We are a more educated society now, give us all credit for being able to interpret what Godās people or HIS people are.
Are we āsplittingā hairs or āsplittingā the church. Think about it.
I do feel much more at āpeace/religiousā when hearing a priest says mass (even if he says āfriendsā rather than āapostlesā)
than listening to others condemn him and say he is saying it wrong.
If a priest gets up and preaches āhateā then thatās another story.
Please, letās stop this ārightā or āwrongā. We are GODāS people AND we are āHISā people.
Seems like thereās alot of Catholic bashing being done BY CATHOLICS!!!
