More martyrs: a Carmelite priest is massacred in Andhra Pradesh
Nirmala Carvalho
asianews.it/index.php?l=en&art=13005&size=A#
38 year old Fr. Thomas Pandippallyil, was assassinate don the night of August 16th on his way to a village to celebrate Sunday mass. **His body showed signs of torture, with wounds to his face, his hands and legs broken and his eyes pulled from their sockets. **The bishop of Hyderabad denounces the growing climate of “violence against Catholics” in the country.

New Delhi (AsiaNews) – “Father Thomas is a martyr: he sacrificed his life for the poor and marginalised. But he did not die in vain, because his body and his blood enrich the Church in India, particularly the Church in Andhra Pradesh”. Those are the words of Msgr. Marampudi Joji, archbishop of Hyderabad and secretary of the bishops’ conference of Andhra Pradesh (a state in South East India), commenting the barbarous killing of the Carmelite priest Thomas Pandippallyil, 38, assassinated on the night of August 16th in Mosalikunta, on the road between Lingampet and Yellareddy, 90 km from the regional capital.

Christians suffer persecution in India, and yet we rarely hear about it in the US.

Thank you for letting us know.

Dear Wapsi
Thank you for your concern, you would be suprised to know that over the past 2 years attacks on Christians (nearly all denominations) have averaged 4 a week. It is true that there are atrocities on other small groups in India such as the dalits and muslims, but because attacks on peace loving Christians are never responded to in kind by the Christians and due to a biased administration never prosecuted these attacks presently show an accelerated trend.
It will be nice to pray for Christians everywhere including those in Pakistan and Bangladesh who are sometimes worse off than us.
God bless

Murdered priest suffered 30 stab wounds
theindiancatholic.com/report.asp?nid=11098
HYDERABAD (ICNS): The missionary priest who was killed in Andhra Pradesh suffered multiple head injures and more than 30 stabbings. It took place in a region with “a history of antisocial and communal disturbances,” says Anthoniraj Thumma, executive secretary of Andhra Pradesh Federation of Churches.

Derrick, I know a Seminary colleague of this Priest who died, and after hearing this hard news, to pay homage to Fr. Thomas it occurred to this Priest to make a blog, and here is the link to it…

Let us pray for Fr. Thomas’ soul, for his Mother and family, all his friends who are so devastated, also for all Christians in India, and for the people of that area who seem to have had a hand in this sad incident.

Our Lady Help of Christians, pray for us.

Dear Coolen
I felt so touched reading the blog. I feel so sorry for his mother and friends. To see his body would be so devastating, the body she delivered, fed and brought up and sacrificed to the Lord. The pains taken by parents in India with financial and other difficulties are incredible, all destroyed by some selfish and hateful people.
May God have mercy on them. Poor priests in India have little money so robbery would never be a motive. Inspite of which, the police report that passes for truth in India would suggest that later and be believed by some.
Except for one no national paper in India has reported on this sad and tragic news. It is only UCAN,Catholic online, Zenit, Indian Catholic and others who have reported on our beloved Fr Thomas.
God bless as you said let us invoke Mary Help of Christians

Prayer to Our Lady Help of Christians.
200 Days, once a day. (Leo XIII, June 20, 1891.)
MOST powerful Virgin, loving help of the Christian people, what thanks are not due to thee from us for the help thou didst give to our fathers, who, when threatened by the infidel Turk, invoked thy maternal aid by devoutly reciting the Rosary. From heaven thou didst behold their danger, thou didst hear their pitiful voices, thou didst lend a favourable ear to the humble prayer suggested by the great Pontiff, St Pius V, and didst promptly run to their assistance. Grant, O dear Mother, that the present and long continued groanings of the holy Spouse of CHRIST may penetrate to thy throne; may they again move thy compassion and arouse thee afresh to free her from the powerful enemies who surround her. And so from every corner of the earth there rises to thy throne that precious prayer to make thee propitious now, as then, in our present calamity. Perchance our sins hinder, or at least retard, their effect. Therefore, dearest Mother, obtain for us true sorrow for them, and a firm purpose to be ready rather to face death than return to sin. Intolerable is the thought that through our fault the aid we so desperately need should be denied or delayed. Arise then, dear Mother, yielding to the prayers of the Catholic world, and beat down the pride of those wretched men who in their insolence outrage GOD, and would have that Church destroyed against which, by the infallible word of CHRIST, the gates of hell shall never prevail. Let it once more be seen that where thou dost arise to protect her the victory is assured, that though it may be delayed it is certain in the end; for so we are taught by the faith, which bids us hope through thee to be mercifully heard by GOD. Amen.

Please God the publicity about Fr Thomas’ torture and murder will bring about accountability and change for our fellow Christians in such nations as India.

Indian bishops speak out against anti-Christian violence
by Nirmala Carvalho
Anti-Christian violence rises dramatically. In Orissa state no action is taken against the perpetrators of last Christmas’ violence; instead religious men and women are investigated for alleged conversions. In Kerala bishops call on the authorities to find the murderers of Father Thomas who was laid to rest today.

New Delhi (AsiaNews) – After the murder of Fr Thomas Pandipally, a Carmelite priest killed and mutilated last Saturday, India’s bishops have voiced their concern over the dramatic rise in anti-Christian violence and the authorities’ failure to act against it. Because of this in Kerala bishops said they want to see the arrest of those who killed the priest who was buried today. The bishop of Orissa complained that the authorities are more concerned to demonstrate eventual cases of proselytism rather than apprehend for justice those behind the Christmas violence when churches and schools were torched and a few Christians killed

Fr Thomas Pandipally, a parish priest in Andhra Pradesh, was buried today. He was killed in barbaric way just a few days ago. He was a native of the diocese of Palai in Kerala like Fr Johnson Prakash Moyalan, a Salesian clergyman killed last 1 July.
