What’s less known is that India, too, is experiencing a surge in Christian conversions, with some observers now believing that there are as many Christians in India as in China. In China, Christianity is often a religion of urbanites and the well educated; in India, aside from traditional communities of Christians in the south, Christianity is often strongest among Dalits — “untouchables” at the bottom of the social hierarchy.
