In recent months, dioceses around the world have been offering Catholics a spiritual benefit that fell out of favor decades ago — the indulgence, a sort of amnesty from punishment in the afterlife — and reminding them of the church’s clout in mitigating the wages of sin.
Anyone’s priest make any mention of indulgences lately? The priest at my parents church did a couple weeks ago, but I forget what for. It had to do with Saint Paul.

It’s amazing how the ONLY thing I’ve ever known about indulgences is what they teach you in school, regarding Martin Luther. CCD never taught anything about them.

I have a 1950’s Catholic Bible that has a list of indulgences in it. If return for doing something you get so many days off in purgatory. The scandal wasn’t the existence of the indulgences, the scandal was in the selling of them, which the Church recognized and corrected. To answer the question, I have never heard a priest mention them. It is kind of an awkward topic, I guess.

I only remember one priest (a very orthodox priest of a religious order) mention indulgences. No other priest has that I recall.
