Can one still obtain indulgences whil not in a state of grace?
Indulgences require sacramental confession and Eucharist. So, no.Can one still obtain indulgences whil not in a state of grace?
Not necessarily though, because with the Crucifix of St. Pius X, whoever kisses it devoutly receives an indulgenceIndulgences require sacramental confession and Eucharist. So, no.
I would imagine that one would need to go to confession anyway even after they have done the action (what ever it may be) to receive the indulgence. Not necessarily though, because with the Crucifix of St. Pius X, whoever kisses it devoutly receives an indulgence
It’s safe to say that most kids of the age range you gave can knowing break the 10 Commandments. Breaking those are mortal sins. This is all hypothetical, please note.
What if one can not go to confession, say what if a child commits a mortal sin?
Also, what kinds of mortal sins can a child around 11-12-13 commit, anyways?
they CAN be mortal sins. many admit of smallness of matter etc…so are venial sins. It’s safe to say that most kids of the age range you gave can knowing break the 10 Commandments. Breaking those are mortal sins.
Confession is required for Plenary indulgences…not partial ones…Not necessarily though, because with the Crucifix of St. Pius X, whoever kisses it devoutly receives an indulgence
I would encourage any young person of that age who has broken one of the 10 Commandments to go to Confession.they CAN be mortal sins. many admit of smallness of matter etc…so are venial sins.
No. You do the actions of an Indulgence while in the state of grace. If your last Confession was more than a week ago,and you are still in a state of grace, you would still also go to Confession, but since you are in the state of grace, you can go either before or after doing the actions. Can one still obtain indulgences whil not in a state of grace?
Yes Confession is a great gift and I hope young people will be in the habit …say once a week or month…unless they have mortal sins…of course.I would encourage any young person of that age who has broken one of the 10 Commandments to go to Confession.
I find it disheartening how many young people stay away from the confessional or seek to justify their sins.
I know of the priests who helps out at our parish has mentioned that it a very common (and problem) that for many of teenage confirmation candidates havent been to Confession since right before their First Communion.
Young people need to understand better the Sacrament of Confession and avail themselves to it.
I think many just try to wiggle out of it because of fear, uneasiness, embarassment etc…
We need to help them get past this and get into the confessional!!![]()
From the Compendium of the CatechismBut then that leads to when children around the age reach adolescense…and they, umm “do things”. Are they considered mortal? Even if some were unintentional?
(Alot of children have asked me this)
To be capable of gaining an indulgence for oneself, it is required that one be
Code:* baptized, * not excommunicated, * **in the state of grace at least at the completion of the prescribed works**, and * a subject of the one granting the indulgence.
In order that one who is capable may actually gain indulgences,
Code:* one must have at least a general intention to gain them * and must in accordance with the tenor of the grant perform the enjoined works at the time and in the manner prescribed.
I would encourage them to talk to a priest to determine if it’s mortal or otherwise. Because of the lack of clarity in your post of it makes it hard for anyone here to give any more direction than what Bookcat has posted. But then that leads to when children around the age reach adolescense…and they, umm “do things”. - Actually to gain indulgences the person must have at least the general intention of doing so and must perform the acts enjoined at the time stipulated and in the manner required according to the tenor of the grant.
