Inexpensive, unstressful weddings

When my brother married, my mother held the rehearsal dinner in her own home. She put on a pasta feed of her own tomato “gravy” (which is a good memory, BTW), meatballs, Italian sauasage, salad with dressings, pasta (of course) in different sizes, wine, coffee, soft drinks, and cake. The cake was the most expensive item. She took store-bought angel-food cakes, hallowed them out, and cut them so they fit together like wedding rings. She filled the “rings” with flavored whip cream (she normally uses Cool Whip or Dream Whip, but it was a wedding, after all). With the tumult of out-of-town guests, last minute prep, etc., it was very nice and relaxed…and darn tasty!
