Have you been using the Creighton Model?
This seems similar to a book I read called Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which basically shows you Natural Family Planning. I have charted my temperature for a year and still wasn’t able to conceive.
that’s a good start for getting Naprotechnology treatments
I haven’t heard of this but will look into it.

Thanks. 🙂

It’s really great…you start off with the Creighton Model of NFP that Dr. Hilgers created…that is the start for Naprotechnology…the ONLY Church approved fertility treatment…It gets pretty complicated, but go to www.popepaulvi.com and you will find everything you need about Napro…if at all confused, call them…they are really great! I am finally scheduled for surgery by Dr. Hilgers in the end of June…He has healed thousands of woman thought to be infertile. He has two other doctors who are colleagues, but at my age, and the fact I have already gone through medical Napro and surgical napro by one of his protégé’s with no luck, I am going to have him treat me personally…took 6 months to get my appointment, but it’s worth it. definitely look it up…you may just need a simple hormone replacement, and take Metformin, which you probably are already on as this is the first line of treatment for even mainstream gyn’s…good luck…and God Bless!!

Just found out last night that my sister is pregnant with her fourth child. It only took her one month of trying to conceive. Although I am truly happy for her and pray that God will help her safely deliver a healthy child, I feel sad for my husband and myself. When I told my husband the news he was a little quiet and I knew he felt sad that once again, other people are having children and we’re not. I cried this morning during my prayers and am going to call the Naprotechnology center near me today. I am trying to have faith that God has a plan for us and that He will give us children in His own time. I told my sister how happy I was for her but feel like I can’t share my sadness with her either. She knows the struggles my husband and I have gone through and told me she felt a little guilty that she got pregnant so quickly considering all the trouble I have been having. I told her that God’s plan for her was to have many children and that He obviously has a different plan for me, one that hasn’t made itself known yet. I only wish I felt as confident inside as I did when I told her that. Thank you for having this thread and allowing me to post.

I really hope you find yourself with Napro. Learning the Creighton Model takes a couple months but then they quickly can get clues as to what is happening. I have gone through medical napro, and surgical napro, and am finally going to Dr. Hilgers himself in June. I am praying for you! I have a good friend with 7 children. she was sending me all of these “baby update texts” and just had to be honest for my own sake… I asked her to PLEASE be sensitive to my infertility…that I am glad everyone is healthy, and I feel bad, but I need this from her (not giving the updates etc…)Being your sister, is a little stickier situation. Mine has three and is two years younger than me. I’m 38 so am really running out of time. We’ve been trying for the better part of 2.5 years so very frustrating despite fertility drugs and hormone replacements. I am hoping that with Dr. Hilgers…he is not going to forget or do things not normal for napro, as he created it. Pray to St. Philomena. I have a friend who had a huge surgery in Omaha, and prayed to St. Philomena and 6 mos. later was pregnant with a girl she named “Filumena” (latin) and she was older than me, and REALLY messed up with endometriosis in her bowels and all over her uterus…Keep your hope up, until told otherwise. I still, can’t imaging God giving us married, stable relationship, Catholic women, a calling to be mothers, just to say “NO” just seems not right in my mind. Please update or PM me about your napro appointment…I know your pain…I really do:(

Hi Kathleen and CatholicAnne,

Just wanted to pop in to say hello and to tell you that you are in my prayers.

Last week, I had some very severe episodes of hypoglycemia. I was disoriented, had to lie down, cognitive impairment, etc. It lasted most of the week. I don’t have PCOS, but I do have insulin resistance because of a family history of diabetes. I know that insulin resistance is one of the classic markers of PCOS. So, I feel for you both. While I was down last week, I bought a new book on kindle by Dr. Mark Hyman called The Blood Sugar Solution: The UltraHealthy Program for Losing Weight, Preventing Disease, and Feeling Great Now! It is absolutely a gift from God. If you are already familiar with the concepts, some of it will not be new. But, the supplement recommendations and the recipes including portion sizes have been the golden ticket for me. I feel so much better. And, I have lost 5 lbs. in one week. I am not overweight, but I have the “spare tire” around the abdomen which is deadly for insulin resistance which is one of the root causes of infertility.

I talked to my NaPro doctor about all of this last week. He gave me an an article about adrenal insufficiency and infertility along with a 5 page questionnaire about it which I have filled out and will give back to him at the next visit. The article was written by Dr. Hilgers and talks about low-dose cortisone treatments for women with adrenal fatigue and infertility and pregnancy success with this treatment for women who have otherwise “failed Clomid”. I think that might be the next round of treatment that will be prescribed for me, but we’ll see.

God bless you, ladies!

Thanks for the info. My weight issue is because of the PCOS and hypothyroid and another med take for the depression. I really eat probably no more that 1200 calories a day…which is normal intake for my height and trying to loose weight. I just want to get to the gym, of course now I have this head cold, and I am the biggest baby when I’m sick! I am very familiar with low glycemic index foods and frequent small meals vs. three “big meals” a day I was really glad to see you on here again, and was going to request to have you as a "friend here on CA, if that’s OK, I guess I’ll find out soon enough:) take care of yourself, and God Bless!

Ok, twice now I have heard the term “surgical napro.” What is it and will I need a surgery too? Makes me a little nervous…

It depends on which doctor you go to. My NaPro doctor in California was not an Ob/Gyn, and only about 20% of her patients were for NaProTechnology, the rest of her practice was as a sleep specialist. So, I saw her for about 6 months and she did lab work, cycle reviews, etc., but no ultrasounds or surgery, because she is not equipped or trained in surgical NaPro. I have a lot of respect for her, but I was in a lot of pain from my endometriosis, and she was not going to be able to help me. Fortunately, we made a temporary move to the East coast last September, and I began seeing one of the best surgical NaPro docs in the country, trained by Dr. Hilgers. He performed a laparoscopy which lasted 4 hours and he diagnosed and treated Stage III endo. I felt a lot better afterward.

I read Dr. Hilger’s book called The NaProTechnology Revolution: Unleashing the Power of a Woman’ Cycle which I recommend, and it talks about the details, success rates, etc. of an ovarian wedge resection which is the surgical approach for treating PCOS.

Prayers!

Hi Kathleen,

Yes, let’s be friends! 🙂

This week, the weight loss has been slower…only about 1/4 lb. per day, but I am still pleased with this new program. Before this, I was very well familiar with low glycemic and frequent small meals as opposed to 3 big meals, and I had been following this for years without losing, in fact, only gaining weight. It’s not that I am so concerned about my weight, but the belly flab is a big problem for infertility. Anyway, this new program in The Blood Sugar Solution starts out with a 6-week program of no sugar (not even agave syrup or fruit, with the exception of berries), no dairy, no gluten, no flour of any sort, including pasta, no caffeine. I am down to 1/2 cup of coffee per day, whereas before i always had 1 cup in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. The supplement of PGX, which is a fiber that slows the glycemic load, has helped, too. Plus, making sure to take my magnesium, chromium and with the addition of alpha-lipoic acid and coQ10. I feel so much better! Also, I am not counting calories, so I don’t know how many, but I don’t feel hungry.

Last week, I asked my doctor to do a full thyroid panel, because I heard one of Dr. Hilger’s patients on Catholic radio say that the only way he was able to diagnose her as hypothyroid was by doing a full panel, not just TSH. So, I should find that out pretty soon.

God bless, you, too!

Thank you, I will look up the book and research the ovarian wedge resection. 🙂

Naprotechnology is just short for Natural Reproductive Technology. It starts with the Creighton Model of charting your cycles. this alone can sometime point to a direct issue. If labs, or hormones are needed, or fertility drugs, that is all “Medical Napro”. There are VERY few Napro Surgeons, as Dr. Hilgers takes two fellows a year to train them in surgical napro. Surgery would be like I have had…a laperoscopy to see what the problems are looking face to face with your uterus and ovaries, even the surrounding bowel to look for and laser treat endometriosis if it’s not too advanced. He can also do a selective hysterosapingogram, which is checking the patency of the tubes and if there is a blockage, he can usually fix that all laperscopically. I have PCOS, and it was so terrible even with large doses of metformin, so I had a “bilateral wedge resection” that was the doctor ( a fellow who studied under Hilgers,) With that she took a wedge of each ovary, like a pacman, and that reduced the cysts…I am back with crazy cycles, and I knew I was getting terrible care with this doc, so I petitioned Dr. Hilgers, and I’m having another Laperoscopy in June. I want ONLY him to care for me know. I let his protégé’ play mentor and she went on vacation as I was ready to have an internal explosion of infected blood. she has no money apparently to have a doctor for back up emergencies, no nurse, or PA either. she actually told me to go to the ER and tell them to page their GYN and tell them what to perform! she didn’t even work at the hospital she was suggesting. she then tried to “calm” me by saying that the bursting of the infected hematoma would bust out of my surgical incision rather than burst inside of my body! REAL comforting huh? I am 38, been married almost three years, I started charting with Creighton 6 months before I was married, so we knew there would be problems and I would need surgery for the cysts that couldn’t be treated medically. I’m just glad I’m in good hands now…no more worrying about a young doctor remembering what she learned in a one year fellowship. Maybe when she’s been doing it for 30+ years like Hilgers she’ll be OK, and for many I’m sure she is sufficient…but I am an extraordinarily hard case. I may have LUFS…Lutenized Unruptured Follicle Syndrome…basically you ovulate but the corpus luteum never releases the egg into the tube and the egg dissolves in the ovary even though technically you ovulated, the egg never left town. I’m going to be having ultrasounds tracking my ovulation with Dr. Hilgers and I really think I’ll have a solid yes or no answer as to whether I can ever conceive. When I asked the first doc about asking for Dr. Hilger’s help, she said “you could, but I’ve already done everything”! Seriously? she missed SO much…but they think she’s an “excellent doctor” Really? I don’t see “excellence” in a brand new doctor. experience is what you need with a surgeon. I mean she blew me off while vacationing and then after reading my ultrasound had me come in that night for an emergency I&D which took about 4 months to heal with a wound vac. I’m just glad I did petition him, he was saying that it has been so long, and that I need all of these tests done to see what’s going on…she said she was done evaluating, and just going to treat…afterall, she did “EVERYTHING” I have much brighter hopes for June:) I am a rare case, so don’t think you will have the same experience. Rarely is surgical Napro needed…but it’s the most effective, and ONLY Church approved method of fertility treatment…way more effective than IVF.👍

What a horrible experience! I’m so sorry you had to go through all that. I can’t imagine how scary it must feel to be in an emergency situation and have a doctor dismiss my concerns.

I’m glad to hear that surgical napro is rare. I dislike hospitals so the less surgeries I have to endure, the better. 🙂 But I’m leaving it in God’s hands and if that’s the path He has for me then I’ll just pray and turn it over to Him.

Do you think my weight will come into play? I am a plus-sized woman and although I have lost 35 lbs, I still have a lot more to go. Do you think my weight would affect the charting?

There’s good reason to dislike hospitals…their full of germs and my original laperotomy incision was infected with Morganella…a “nosocomial infection” these are infections generally acquired from being in a hospital. Your immune system is down due to an incision healing, and then all of the air in hospitals(except TB rooms with negative pressure) circulates through every sick patients room. There are no windows for fresh air…It’s a germ breeding ground. NEVER feel shy to ask your nurses and doctors to wash their hands BEFORE examining you…even if they say they JUST did…you want to be 100% It’s the number 1 way to prevent these infections. Anyway, weight is a fertility issue. I am overweight but now that I have a system to remember the metformin in the afternoon at the same time everyday, I have been just dropping weight with 0 exercise. I do minor walking and stretches, but I want to get back into the Zumba which is really fun and high aerobic. I want to lift weights to get rid of my bat wings too:) I was wondering if I could do a friend request with you? I’ll send the request, and you just accept or deny it…Weight is embarrassing when it is a problem, and I think you and I would feel a little more comfortable. also it’s easier to chat as when I get a PM, I get notified right away on my phone, while the threads I get one notice at around 10:00PM. I am so glad you were able to lose so much weight. I was told that a 10% weight loss is significant in increasing fertility chances, so you have done a wonderful thing in that respect:thumbsup: I’ll ttyl

Sorry I forgot your last question Your weight will only effect your charting if you are overweight due to PCOS. The cysts in the ovaries produce insulin resistance, as we know…that’s what the metformin is for…but the cysts also produce estrogen…this will give you a lot of “white baby stamps” a normal mucus build up is about 5 days, give or take a few…with PCOS you could be having a ton of peak type mucus, not because you are necessarily ovulating, or getting ready to (you may not at all) but because of the excessive estrogen.

This is random but just thought I would share.

My grandmother married very young, at 21. Her and my grandfather tried to conceive for over 7 years but had no luck! They adopted my Uncle when he was 2 months old and my grandmother got pregnant on his 1 year birthday with my Dad! 🙂 Followed by two more boys, and they all were exactly 2 years apart.

Funny how things work out

There have been a lot of stories of people getting pregnant after adoption. Since my husband and I are also looking into adopting, that might or might not happen for us. I think at this point we just want children, no matter how they come into our lives. 🙂

Male Infertility and male obesity

Can anyone share any experiences about this with me? I’ve been told for years that I’m grasping at straws by trying to find a link, yet I finally came across an article describing a study that confirms what we’ve suspected - male obesity is linked with an 80% likelihood of zero sperm production. (link below)

With this, my husband and I are hoping that we may have a place in Napro Technology after all. I’ve contacted a Napro teacher in my area for more info, and I know we’ll need to reduce DH’s weight significantly before we can see if indeed it has made a difference. I also know that once he reaches a new, healthier weight, he’ll have to maintain it for at least 3 months before we can do another SA, since it takes about that long for the sperm production lifecycle.

I wish my husband had been more proactive about wanting to lose weight for the sake of his health while we tried to adopt, but now I pray that this will give him the motivation he needs to take it seriously once and for all.

If anyone has any stories of husbands’ counts going up after weight loss (ESPECIALLY from zero), or some cliffnotes info on how Napro for male factor might work, I’m all ears.

Has anyone else experienced infertility after taking depo provera, or odd things like I am?
Depo Provera is a very dangerous drug. Even the FDA thinks so! It gives it its “black box” warning.

Oral contraceptive pills are Class 1 carcinogens (like asbestos, nicotine, benzine, etc.) according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

I’m sure a “doctor” told you depro was fine and safe…but even the commercials to PROMOTE the pill and depro, tell you that they will basically kill you at some point…the women in the commercials are sitting in bathing suits or in a coffee house just talking about hows they can have irresponsible sex with whoever (never mention a husband) and the whole time in the background stating…may cause stroke, blood clots, heart attack and death, cigarette smoking can increase these risks especially for those over 35. Smoking is probably the least of your problems if your on one of these drugs. I am praying that your body heals up after some time off of one of these truly dangerous drugs. I would personally contact a Napro doctor (at least medical Napro for now) to see if any hormones are out of wack. It uses the Creighton Model of NFP so it has a healing and a NFP benefit…Plus it is the one method where your husband is really involved with your charting. I know a woman who charted for one month, was thought to have endometriosis from just that one month and after an ultrasound, confirmed it…that’s what it was! I would look for a practitioner in your area. Keep the faith and God bless!
