In the old forum, these editorials were not allowed in the ‘news’ forum. But I guess now anything goes.

That was a totally different Forum. It’s impossible to compare the two now. They’re both very different.

While not disagreeing with you, do you have any discussion regarding her position?

I haven’t listened to the video (I prefer to read text), so no.

Interesting to note that many college students protest a variety of causes (victimhood, hunger, a gov’t decision), but it is very rare that they protest the cause of high tuition or the fact that many of the degrees they get are not marketavle for actual employment.

That may be but a university isn’t a vocational school, and they’re free to all study business or pre-med if they want so what is there to protest?

High tuition should be the thing to protest as I have written(unless paid for by grants, scholarships, or mommy and daddy. You are correct, these are not vocational schools. So in terms of bachelor’s degrees and the Associate degree (freshman and sophomore year), it is good to have a focus of an earned living rather than just going to college because it’s the thing to do

She opens her dialogue about the colossal failure of socialism and I’ll give the benefit of the doubt she refers to Marxist socialism, (government owned means of production) and she would be correct.

However, the argument lacks balance.

Unbridled capitalism has proven itself to be evil by way of monopoly, exploitation and greed. Stuff just never really did ‘trickle down’…

I take that directly from encyclicals through the teaching of Catholic thought though, one could reference Rerum Novarum and the centennial reverberation in Centesimus Annus. (cuz it’s needed every hundred years or so) haha

I’ve always felt that education is a goal in and of itself. But of course it’s understandable that when one pays a lot of money for something one expects to ‘get’ something for it. However most of the jobs that exist on the earth don’t really depend on skills and knowledge one can learn in a classroom. And having an educated and knowledgeable citizenry surely is important for a democratic republic to function.
