I think there have been some GREAT replies. Thank you all for sharing. I guess I still come away feeling that I would NEVER EXPECT an inheritance from my parents (or grandparents). If they leave me anything I will be GREATLY appreciative!
I agree-we shouldn’t expect an inheritance…but, when there is one…it should be equally distributed.

Dear OutinChgoburbs,

so sorry. I know you asked in sincerity. and i mostly answered in kind. but you were concerned that i might misconsture the tone of your inquiry, so i added that little humor to let you know that it was accepted in the goodwill which you meant it.

then it was i who was misunderstood. as cute as smilies are, i don’t use them. maybe i should. i guess i’m not so funny (as i think i am) without them.

I agree to a point(and I read your pp and understand your situation). Although, I think that there are times that the equally has to be bent.

For example: Prior to my mom passing, my sister did a GREAT deal more for mom than my brother and I were able to. If my sister would have asked for some of that to reimbursed, I would have given it to her (we tried even though she didn’t ask and she wouldn’t take it). I also feel that sometimes one person is in more need at the time than another. Another example from when my mom passed. My brother had 4 kids and drove a Camero  Mom had a Jeep, so my sister and I insisted that my brother get the Jeep. I also have a family member (through marriage) that has a disabled brother, her parents insured that enough was left to support him for the rest of his life (yes they were very wealthy).

So sometimes I think there are reasons that equality has to be bent or broken.

I also won’t question if my parents (dad) put in his will ( if he has one) for his be divided unequal, I guess that would go against “honor thy mother and father” 🤷

I also believe that EVERYONE (adults) should have a Will! I wish it could be mandatory. Guess that is a whole different discussion through.

No, sweetie, I should apologize. I got it, I just wasn’t sure. It’s been a long week. I didn’t want to misunderstand you.

I was watching a show this morning and they were talking about inheritances and people’s expectations on what they think they are going to or should inherit?
I just thought I would shoot off a couple questions for all of you?
  1. As adults, do you expect to receive some type of inheritance (monetary) from your parents, grandparents?
  2. If yes why? If no why not?
  3. Have you talked to your parents or grandparents about if you will inherit (monetary) anything?
I am just curious about inheritances that would go to adults, not minor children, I think that goes into a whole different belief system.
Yes I expect to get some inheritance from my parents. My expectation it is not because I think that I have any right to it but simply because my parents are determined to take care of their children and grandchildren even after death.
