Someone mentioned Judas. Are not priests like apostles in the sense of their intimate contact with the holiness of Christ? These sexual scandals bring to the fore the old question of whether Judas was acting on his free will, or was he ,in fact, a man preordained to live out his nefarious fate. These pedophile priests could not inflict more harm on the Church if they were born apostates of Hell, acting out a predetermined role in some malignant plot. This thing is mysterious to me. My reason cannot come to terms with it. An evil stain marks the holy vestments because of these heinous crimes, contaminating the very image of trust and fidelity within the faith: The collar itself. I refuse to believe this to be merely a coincidental gathering of evil, perverted clergymen populating the church in an era simultaneously, and at random. A sinister force is at work here.
As far as Judas, I am going through the book of Luke at this moment, and this is what he wrote regarding Judas: “Then Satan entered into Judas, the one surnamed Iscariot, who was counted among the Twelve” St. Luke 22:3

As I recall, that during Jesus’ actual ministry, all of the apostles struggled with faith. Jesus used to get frustred at times because of their lack of faith. I believe this is why Satan was allowed to enter Judas because of his lack of faith. Note that whenever Jesus exorsised a demon it was from someone of great faith, one time the demon willingly left recognizing him as “Son of God”.

Having said this, I believe Judas’ faith was weak that’s why Satan was allowed to enter. Judas is ALL of us. He can be seen that part of us that is weak in our faith.

The bishops and priests are direct successors of the apostles and their disciples. Just because you are ordained a priest doesn’t mean you are immune from the influences of Satan. In fact, BECAUSE they are instruments of Christ, they are the ones Satan is going to go after first. I thought I read somewhere the ‘supposable’, St. Padre Pio was attacked at times by demons. Remember, Satan’s original intention was to become God himself. Who do you think he’s going to go after? If you want to destroy your enemy, you gotta get your foot in the door, right?? Therefore, he is going after our priests so he can destroy our church from within and take over when he’s done killing everyone. It’s a very clever and very popoular military strategy : Destroy your enemy from within and take over. Satan is a master at war strategies.

The second thing I wanted to say about child molestation is this: You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t blatently ignore the problem in your community, but then become outraged when it happens in the catholic church. You can’t have this “Me and my right” syndrome to buy into the sexuallization of our culture not expect consequences. “If I buy a Playboy who is it going to hurt?” Well, you are not exactly helping to slow down the progress, you are just “fueling the fire” or in other words…the money pit. People don’t believe that their “rights” have consequences anymore. They do!!! What do people think the fruit of sexualization of our culture is??? It’s child molestation, teen pregnancy, human trafficking…we could go on and on.

These are the consequences of forcefeeding our society about this blatant lie called “sexual rights”.

The other lie we have to stop telling people is “you can’t resist temptation”. That is absoluetly not true. Yes these priests can do it. They are the front line, fighting the enemy head on in the trenches and we are behind them ‘covering their back’.

A big part of me feels like I was asleep for the last oh…20 years or so and I just woke up and realize…wait a minute? Our society doesn’t stress consequences of our actions anymore. In fact, we create solutions to counter the consequence. Now we say…"its ok if you are 15 and get pregnant, here is a morning-after pill, you’ll be up and around in no time. Its ok if you eat a 2000 calorie meal three times a day because we are going to have a universal health plan to jump start your heart as many times as you want and you won’t have to shell out a penny!

What you say, makes sense. If you look at it from a military perspective, Satan and God are mutual enemies where Christ is the truth and justice, and Satan bent on revenge who wants nothing more than to be a God himself. The Church is our “Fort” so to speak, then it would appear that the enemy has broken through the front line and infiltrated our “army”, where spies linger among us. Only the light of Christ can combat this evil. We have to arm ourselves with the armor, and shield from the Holy Spirit. It’s time to stop watching our 'comrads" and “military leaders” being devoured up by our enemy and time to get into the action. Are we on earth not called the “Church Militant”? Ok…so I say, let’s be militant!!

That’s the way I see it.

Well one thing that jumped out to me and just sounded strange. The girl had to watch the Priest in the confessional M and when she tried to get away she was beaten by nuns?.

What where the nuns in the confessional with her ? did they know what the Priest was doing, sorry just does not ring true with me!
There was probably a bit more to it than that. Perhaps the girl being distressed after the incident went to tell the nuns what happened and they didn’t believe her and beat her because they assumed she was lying. You have to remember that just a few decades ago, catholic priests were among the most highly respected and esteemed individuals in society. They were authoritative and absolutely beyond reproach.

Put yourself in mindset of a child in that era (1950’s 60’s) and you just had a priest do “that” right in front of your very eyes. How in the world do you go about telling anyone about it? …let alone a nun. Back in that time, there was virtually no chance that a nun would believe you, thus the physical discipline which was the norm in all schools, not just catholic back then.

I don’t doubt the basics of the story, I can see questioning the completeness of it.

:tiphat: Thank you, there are times when I forget how strong Satan can be, it is good for someone to remind me!

I’m not defending Priest who commit such atrocities of evil, but being as Germany is a more Lutheran than Catholic Nation would the Lutheran Church in Germany recieve the same treatment. I wonder how many Lutheran Pastors are guilty of such actions, being as in the USA we know Protestants have a higher percentage of it and that fact is ignored by the presses here. Even our school teachers are more guilty of it but you only hear about the student and the pretty teacher stories with only a passing reference to child molesting. Right here in Wichita Ks two recent cases of teachers and child molesting has been mentioned with no head lines and basically a we will wait to here the schools reports on the incidences. If only our Church was treated so gently…B]

The Bible has always warned us that there would be wolves in the sheepfold and it is certain that we “the Church” have not been as alert and defensive as we should be in keeping the wolves out. We have to remember that the Roman Catholic Church is engaged in constant spiritual warfare, and under constant attack by the forces of evil. Perhaps more so than other churches, but that also make sense as who would Satan concentrate the most on?.. his biggest enemy of course, the one that is the biggest threat to him in leading people to the Truth.

Satan is evil but he is not stupid, far from it. In fact he is genius when it comes to contriving and executing devious attacks sometimes implemented slowly and over long periods of time. His ultimate goal is to undermine the credibility of the Church and It’s clergy. As a Catholic I hate what he does but as a retired intelligence officer I gan only marvel at the deviousness of the mind behind it! The logistics and planning he uses in his attacks are incredible.

We would be alerted to sudden direct attacks but often the slow sneaky ones catch us napping. Take for example the rash of sex scandals in amongst some clergy in recent years. Many have been hurt and left the faith over this and that is exactly the goal Satan had in mind when he sent the wolves slinking in. It makes many wonder what is happening to the clergy of the Church and they lose their focus on Christ. What we have to remember through all of this is that the offenders weren’t priests who became abusers and pedophiles, these were abusers and pedophiles who became priests!

It is true that in many cases the Church administration, clergy and the laity were too slow to act. The nature of these acts are not easy to ferret out and not long ago it was very hard to believe or accept that such could be going on. That is what has to change. The dogma of the Church is as solid as ever and always will be.
